Abstract

ABSTRACT In Bukit Barisan of southern Sumatra, exactly in Lahat and Pagaralam, South Sumatra, was found remains of megalithic artifacts. The artifacts in the form ofvisual arts are in larger quantities, particu- larly sculptures other than paintings,reliefs, etc. Surveys and literature studies show that visual arts as those contemporary Pasemah visual arts are not yet discovered in other regions. One ofspecial charac- teristics is Point of the Orientation and the Orientation of sculptures which is not referring to point of the compass, rather to the object of nature surroundings. The Pasemah visual arts are never apart from the underlyingEcocentric concept and in harmony with the worship of ancestral souls in a cosmocentric mystical culture. The uniqueness of Pasemah visual arts is, actually, potential that must be excavated and prolif- erated as learning for citizens and, thus, inspire community surroundings in particular and Nusantara societies in general. Keywords: Pasemah, sculpture, megalithic, point, orientation     ABSTRAK Bukit Barisan bagian selatan Sumatra, tepatnya di Lahat dan Pagaralam, Sumatra Selatan, ditemukan peninggalan artefak-artefak megalitik. Secara kuantitatif memperlihatkan bahwa jumlah artefak berwujud karya seni rupa (visual) lebih banyak, terutama yang berbentuk pa- tung selain lukisan, relief, dan sebagainya. Kajian atas hasil survei dan studi literatur membuk- tikan bahwa seperti karya visual Pasemah itu memang tidak ditemukan di kawasan lain yang sezaman. Satu kekhasannya adalah Arah Hadap dan Orientasi patung yang tidak mengacu ke- pada arah mata angin, tetapi kepada objek alam di sekitarnya. Karya-karya visual Pasemah itu tidak pernah lepas dari konsep ekosentris yang menjadi konsep mendasar dan selaras dengan pemujaan arwah leluhur dalam peradaban mistis yang kosmosentris. Keunikan karya visual Pasemah sesungguhnya merupakan potensi yang harus digali dan ditumbuhkembangkan se- bagai pembelajaran bagi anak bangsa, sehingga dapat menginspirasi masyarakat sekitar khu- susnya maupun masyarakat Nusantara umumnya. Kata kunci: Pasemah, patung, megalitik, arah, orientasi

Abstract

The symptom of cultural openness is generally marked by the presence of a freedom of cultural cross in various countries and this symptom has been observed for centuries. One of the influences of this cultural openness is the transition from the traditional society towards the modern society. The furniture is one of the daily artefacts that results during this transition process. Through the observation of cultural transformation, the furniture design works can be considered as the main variables to detect the synergic relationship between the aesthetic values in the design and the other aspects that acts as the key elements of the process of modernization, such as the change in the way of thinking, lifestyle, economic wisdom and the development of technology that occurred in Indonesia during the 20th century. This phenomenon in Indonesia is seen in the form of a cultural 'synthesis' that, as a whole, has been a part of the process of cultural transformation in the form of an aesthetic work that has been a significant mark in the modern design worldview, as well as the conceptual thinking that in context bases various design activities. Through observation of the movement of style in furniture design at the 20th century, the aesthetic value can, in future, act as a model for the development of aesthetic values in design works in Indonesia, especially in facing wider aspects of cultural openness. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia : Gejala keterbukaan budaya secara umum ditandai oleh adanya kebebasan pelintasan antar budaya di berbagai negara dan hal itu telah berlangsung berabad-abad. Salah satu dampak keterbukaan yang terjadi adalah perubahan dari masyarakat tradisional ke arah masyarakat modern. Furnitur merupakan salah satu artifak sehari-hari yang dihasilkan selama proses perubahan itu berlangsung. Melalui pengkajian transformasi budaya, karya desain furnitur dapat dijadikan variabel utama untuk menditeksi hubungan sinergis antara nilai-nilai estetis pada karya desain dengan aspek lain yang menjadi unsur-unsur kunci proses modernisasi, seperti perubahan pola pikir, gaya hidup, kebijakan ekonomi dan perkembangan teknologi yang terjadi di Indonesia di abad ke-20. Fenomena tersebut di Indonesia teraga dalam bentuk 'sintesis' budaya yang telah menjadi bagian dari proses transformasi budaya bangsa secara keseluruhan, baik dalam bentuk karya estetis yang menjadi tanda penting dalam wacana desain modern, maupun pemikiran konseptual yang melandasi berbagai kegiatan desain secara kontekstual. Berdasar pengamatan terhadap pergeseran gaya desain furnitur diabad ke-20, nilai estetis dapat dijadikan model bagi pengembangan nilai-nilai estetis pada karya desain di Indonesia untuk masa yang akan datang, terutama dalam menghadapi aspek keterbukaan budaya yang lebih luas. Abstract

Through historical study%2C design works of advertising and book covers can be viewed as important variables in detecting synergic relationship between aesthetic values. This study is of design works with aspects that become keyelements in modernization process%2C such as thought pattern change%2C lifestyle%2C social dynamics%2C economic policy%2C and technological development in 20th century Indonesia. The cultural synthesis process%2C as part of cultural transformation fragmentation%2C essentially happens as a whole. It happens in the form ofaesthetic works that become important signs in modern design discourse%2C as well as conceptual thoughts that base various limited design activities. Based on observation of design style shift in advertising and book covers in the 20th century%2C aesthetic value shifts can be viewed as a determinative model for a strategy in developing aesthetic values in Indonesia s future design works. Abstract

Kresna, hero and deity of Mahabharata legend, played major role as one example of morality and wisdom in Javanese traditional art and literature. Related with his status and identity as avatar of Vishnu, his traditional portrayal in India based on canon such as Manasara and Silpasastra. In Classical Java, he has been portrayed in Kresnayana reliefs on Vishnu Temple, Prambanan Complex and Main Temple, Panataran Complex. In those reliefs, his images were not strictly followed the canon, especially in costumes. Kresna?s appearance on Prambanan Temple showed different details in costumes, headgear, and accessories in comparison with Panataran Temple. Reliefs in Prambanan looked more similar with Krishna?s images influenced by 7th and 8th century Pallava art, in both carving style and costumes wore by the character, while reliefs in Panataran showed some indigenous characteristics. This research focused to compare Kresna?s portrayal diachronically in those temple, by using descriptive, comparative, and historical methods. It concluded that transformation of Kresna?s image went parallel with transmigration of power center to East Java, which followed by the development of macrocosmos-microcosmos parallels, as indicated by the depiction of king as deity and the culmination of  Vishnu?s worships. The variations of Kresna?s image not only brought diversity based on local influence, but also engendered new system, which later developed into the basis of traditional Javanese art and king?s apparels

Abstract

This research aims to find the push factors that create relationships between youth and shopping centers and examines how different mall environments also help create different emotional bonds towards the malls. This topic is further observed with an explorative study that obtained its primary data from interviews and secondary data from various supporting literatures as well as from a number of observations. The informants were 15 visitors of each of the following shopping centers: Tunjungan Plaza and Ciputra World in Surabaya; and Mal Ciputra and Gandaria City in Jakarta. The total informant number is 60. The research found several affective factors that support the formation of place attachment: physical factors that lead to indirect place attachment, social factors or social interactions that happen in the shopping center, cultural factors, personal factors (including gender, race and ethnicity), memories and experience, place satisfaction, interaction and activity features, and time factor. The different age of shopping centers also had an effect to the factors present.

Abstract

Foto jurnalistik yang menampilkan satu atau beberapa individu yang menggunakan iket menjadi hal yang semakin sering dilihat di halaman media cetak belakangan ini. Meningkatnya pemakaian iket oleh berbagai kalangan masyarakat ini juga mendorong munculnya banyak pemberitaan yang menimbulkan persepsi di masyarakat, yang berupa konstruksi sosial yang dapat mengubah pandangan pembaca atas berita yang tertuang. Penelitian ini menggunakan analisis framing dengan model Robert N. Entman sebagai alat penelitian. Sebagai landasan dan pengantar analisis framing, setiap contoh foto jurnalistik akan diteliti aspek fotografinya dan penempatannya pada lay-out halaman surat kabar. Analisis framing digunakan untuk mengetahui bagaimana seorang fotografer dan redaksi membingkai (framing) foto jurnalistik di halaman surat kabar yang pada akhirnya memunculkan sebuah konstruksi sosial yang diakibatkan karena perbedaan penempatan foto jurnalistik pada halaman surat kabar. Photojournalism featuring one or more individuals who use iket become more often seen in print media these days. The increasing use of iket by various circles of society also encourages the emergence of a lot of news that create the perception in the community, in the form of construction of social reality which can change the view of the above news reader contained. This study uses framing analysis by Robert N. Entman modelas as a research tool. As an introduction to the foundation and framing analysis, each sample will be studied from its photojournalism aspect of photography and its placement on the lay-out pages of newspapers. Framing analysis is used to determine how a photographer and editor create framing photo journalism in the pages of newspapers, which in turn gave rise to a social construction that is caused by differences in the placement of photo journalism at a newspaper page.

Abstract

Sunan Drajat is one of the spreaders of Islam in the northern coast of Java island in the XV - XVI century by utilizing local culture as a medium of da’wah, one of which is in the form of religious symbols contained in decoration. At present, the tomb complex of Sunan Drajat is a religious tourist destination in Lamongan that can increase regional income, with visitors reaching 440 thousand people, in 2016. This study used a qualitative approach with aesthetic analysis, the morphology of Thomas Munro, aesthetic studies of Islam by Al Faruqi, and its meaning was carried out synchronously based on local oral traditions. The results showed that the decoration contained the meaning of Sunan Drajat's teachings and thoughts, namely memangun resep tyasing sasomo (we always make others happy), while the morphology consisted of lines, dots, expressions that formed a pavilion, mountains and tree of life. Aesthetic is achieved by a symmetrical arrangement with a pinch and focus in the center. Thus, the decoration at the main gate of the tomb complex of Sunan Drajat includes the media preaching the teachings of Sunan Drajat

Abstract

Abstract- Indonesia has a lot of cultural diversity which able to support the sustainability of the Creative Industries. Among them is gedhog woven, a traditional weaving cloth. Compared to other types of weaving such as ikat or songket, gedhog woven still lack in popularity in the consumer market. However, gedhog woven has the opportunity of further development into a weaving-based product in the fashion industry to aim high recognization in society. Consumer interests and perceptions of weaving-based products are analyzed through qualitative method in order to understand the consumer market. Experiment also conducted to obtain the final form of fashion products made from gedhog woven material. Product diversification refers to visual aspects in design such as shape, color, size, and proportion. Analysis of tendencies towards fashion product from woven materials obtained through this research. This can be utilized both for the foundation of further research as well as improving the quality and value of selling products in the consumer market.Keywords: visual aspect, fashion, gedhog woven Abstrak- Indonesia memiliki banyak kekayaan budaya yang dapat mendukung keberlangsungan Dari Industri Kreatif. Salah satunya adalah wastra nusantara berupa tenun gedhog. Dibandingkan dengan jenis tenun yang lain seperti ikat atau songket, tenun gedhog masih kurang popularitasnya di dalam pasar konsumen. Meski demikian, tenun gedhog tetap memiliki peluang pengembangan lebih lanjut menjadi sebuah produk dalam industri mode supaya makin dikenal oleh masyarakat. Minat dan persepsi konsumen terhadap produk berbasis tenun dianalisis melalui metodologi kualitatif dalam rangka memahami keinginan pasar. Selain itu, dilakukan pula eksperimen untuk memperoleh bentuk akhir produk mode yang terbuat dari material tenun gedhog. Diversifikasi produk mengacu kepada aspek visual dalam desain seperti bentuk, warna, ukuran, dan proporsi. Melalui penelitian ini diperoleh analisis dari kecenderungan masyarakat terhadap pemilihan produk mode yang terbuat dari material tenun. Hal ini dapat dimanfaatkan baik bagi landasan penelitian selanjutnya maupun bagi peningkatan kualitas dan nilai jual produk dalam pasar konsumen.Kata kunci: aspek visual, mode, tenun gedhog

Abstract

AbstrakAksara Jawa merupakan salah satu warisan budaya Indonesia, khususnya budaya masyarakat Jawa. Seiring dengan digunakannya huruf Latin sebagai sistem penulisan resmi, aksara Jawa perlahan mulai dilupakan oleh masyarakat, khususnya generasi muda. Upaya pelestarian dalam bidang pendidikan melalui mata pelajaran muatan lokal bahasa daerah pada jenjang sekolah, khususnya SMA dan sederajat, dirasa kurang dari segi alokasi waktu serta cara pembelajaran yang cenderung masih monoton. Untuk menanggulangi hal itu, dibutuhkan sebuah desain informasi yang bisa dimanfaatkan sebagai sarana pembelajaran aksara Jawa. Untuk mencapai hal tersebut, terlebih dahulu dilakukan proses penelitian dengan menggunakan pendekatan etnografi yang berangkat dari fenomena aksara Jawa yang ada di masyarakat. Proses pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara observasi, studi literatur, dan wawancara etnografi. Kemudian dilakukan analisa anatomi aksara Jawa untuk mendeskripsikan elemen-elemen aksara Jawa sesuai dengan terminologi yang relevan dengan konteks tipografi yang berlaku di Indonesia. Data tersebut menjadi dasar dalam perancangan desain informasi aksara Jawa yang berisi informasi tentang sejarah, ragam bentuk aksara, dan cara penulisannya yang ditampilkan melalui media website dengan nama “Hanacara”. Hasil uji coba yang telah dilakukan menunjukkan bahwa dari aspek visual, komunikasi, pembelajaran, dan apresiasi, website “Hanacara” merupakan solusi yang efektif sebagai media alternatif untuk mengenal dan mempelajari aksara Jawa. Kata kunci: aksara Jawa, desain informasi, website AbstractJavanese script is considered as one of many of Indonesia’s cultural heritage, especially Javanese culture. Due to the application of Latin script as the official writing of the country, Javanese Script slowly began to be forgotten by people, especially the younger generations. The effort to preserve through educational system by establishing the lesson of Local Content includes the Local-Vernacular Language in school, especially High school and equivalent, is considered lack in terms of time-framing and the monotonous method of teaching. To aim the goal, the writer started with conducting research using ethnography approach taken from the phenomenon of Javanese Script in the community. Observation, literature studies and ethnographic interviews were carried out as the process of gathering the data. Furthermore, the anatomical analysis of the Javanese Script’s typography is applied to describe the element of Javanese Script based on the relevancy of its terminology and typography context that prevails in Indonesia. This data becomes the basis in creating the information design of Javanese Script that would be able to give information regarding history, the variety of script forms, and how to write the letters displayed through the website with the name “Hanacara”. The test process was once held, and the result shows that by the aspect of visual, communication, learning, and appreciation, the website “Hanacara” is considered as the effective solution so as the alternative media to know and to learn Javanese Script.Keywords: information design, Javanese script, website

Abstract

AbstrakDalam industri jasa keuangan, termasuk perbankan, kepercayaan merupakan faktor yang paling berpengaruh terutama untuk mengambil keputusan dalam menetapkan pilihannya kepada salah satu perusahaan. Kepercayaan juga menjadi penting di dalam ranah internet, terutama ketika berbicara mengenai sebuah website. Melalui tampilan visual website, visitor akan membentuk persepsi terhadap website yang dikunjunginya. Ketika persepsi positif terbentuk di dalam diri visitor, maka ia tidak ragu untuk melakukan tindakan nyata kepada penyedia layanan website seperti membagikan data pribadi atau melakukan transaksi. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui pengaruh tampilan visual website PT Bank Nusantara Parahyangan Tbk. (Bank BNP) menggunakan alat ukur VisAWI (simplicity, diversity, colorfulness, dan craftmanship) terhadap kepercayaan visitor. Penelitian ini menggunakan sequential explanatory mixed method. Metode pengumpulan data kuantitatif yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah survei dengan menggunakan alat bantu kuesioner yang disebar ke 135 responden yang memiliki usia 23-38 tahun. Sedangkan metode pengumpulan data kualitatif yang digunakan adalah wawancara terstruktur. Hasil analisa data menunjukkan bahwa tampilan visual website Bank BNP berpengaruh 42,1% terhadap kepercayaan visitor. Selain itu, tampilan visual Bank BNP juga membentuk persepsi visitor akan kinerja bank tersebut dalam dunia nyata. Dari hasil penelitian diketahui bahwa hanya craftmanship saja yang mempunyai pengaruh yang positif dan signifikan terhadap kepercayaan visitor dibandingkan dengan elemen lainnya. Kata kunci: tampilan visual, website, kepercayaan, perbankan, VisAWI AbstractIn the financial service industry, including banking, trust is the most influential factor for making decisions in choosing a company to cooperate with. Trust also becomes significant to the use of the internet, specifically websites. Through the visual appearances of a website, a visitor will form perceptions of the website. When positive perceptions are formed, a visitor will not hesitate to take action, such as sharing personal data or making transactions with the website providers. This research was conducted to determine the influence of visual appearances of the Bank BNP website on visitor trust using VisAWI (simplicity, diversity, colorfulness, and craftsmanship). The method used in this study is a sequential explanatory mixed method. The quantitative data were collected through a survey using a questionnaire tool distributed to 135 respondents who were 23-38 years old, while the qualitative data were collected through structured interviews. The data analysis showed that the visual appearances of the website had an effect of 42.1% on visitors' trust. Visual appearances of the Bank BNP website also form visitors’ perceptions of bank performance in the real world. It also can be concluded that only website craftsmanship that has a positive and significant influence on visitors’ trust. Keywords: visual appearance, website, trust, banking, VisAWI
