Abstract

ABSTRACT Irrational drug use remains a significant public health problem that may lead to treatment failure, adverse drug reactions, antimicrobial resistance, and increased healthcare costs. One strategy to promote rational drug use is the implementation of the DAGUSIBU principle (Get, Use, Store, and Dispose of Medicines Properly). This Community Service Program aimed to improve community knowledge and awareness regarding proper medication management through DAGUSIBU education. The activities included health education sessions, demonstrations on medication use, education on proper storage and disposal of medicines, and evaluations using pre-tests and post-tests. A total of 40 community members participated in the program. The results showed an increase in the average knowledge score from 60.2 before the intervention to 88.7 after the intervention. Furthermore, participants demonstrated improved understanding of how to obtain, use, store, and dispose of medicines correctly. The program was effective in increasing community awareness regarding rational drug use. Continuous DAGUSIBU education is needed to support improved public health outcomes. Keywords: DAGUSIBU, Rational Drug Use, Health Education, Medication Management, Community. Abstract

ABSTRACT Household medicinal plants (TOGA) represent an initiative to utilize plants with medicinal properties to improve public health through self-reliance. The use of medicinal plants can serve as an easily accessible and relatively safe alternative to traditional medicine for addressing various minor health complaints. However, the utilization of medicinal plants in the community remains suboptimal due to a lack of knowledge regarding the types of medicinal plants and how to use them. This community service activity aims to improve the community’s knowledge and skills in developing family medicinal plants as a preventive measure to maintain health. Implementation methods include health education on the benefits of medicinal plants, training in planting and maintaining TOGA, and community assistance in managing TOGA gardens. The results of the activity indicate an increase in community knowledge regarding medicinal plants as well as increased community participation in the utilization of family medicinal plants. The TOGA development program can serve as a strategy to enhance community self-reliance in maintaining health. Keywords: Family Medicinal Plants, Community Empowerment, Preventive Health, Public Health. Abstract

Background: Efficient medication management is a critical factor in hospital pharmacy services. Many hospitals face challenges in controlling medication inventory, service times, and operational costs. Lean Management strategies offer an approach to increasing efficiency by eliminating waste, improving workflows, and optimizing resources. Objective: This study aims to analyze the effect of implementing a Lean Management strategy on medication management efficiency in a hospital pharmacy. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test approach. The sample consisted of the pharmacy department of one hospital implementing Lean Management, with efficiency measurements taken before and after the strategy implementation. Data were analyzed using a paired t-test to compare average medication management time, dead stock levels, and operational costs. Results: The implementation of Lean Management was proven to reduce the average medication management time from 12.5 hours to 8.2 hours per batch (p < 0.05), reduce dead stock by 15%, and reduce operational costs by 10%. Conclusion: The Lean Management strategy significantly improved medication management efficiency in the hospital pharmacy. Recommendations for ongoing implementation and staff training are needed to maintain optimal results.

Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease (NCD) whose prevalence continues to increase in Indonesia and is a major risk factor for heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure. Lack of public knowledge about hypertension and low awareness of the need for regular health check-ups often results in hypertension going undetected early. This community service activity aims to increase public knowledge and awareness about hypertension through health education and free blood pressure checks. The activity was conducted in the neighborhood unit (RW) 05, X Village, and involved 102 participants aged 25–70 years. The activities included interactive health education, blood pressure checks, short interviews, and healthy lifestyle education. The results showed an increase in public knowledge, and 28 participants (27.4%) had blood pressure above normal, most of whom had never had a routine check-up before. Participants expressed satisfaction and found this activity very helpful and hoped that similar activities would be conducted regularly. This activity demonstrates that free health education and check-ups are very beneficial in increasing public awareness of hypertension and have the potential to prevent complications through early detection.
