Abstract

The religious greeting cards that are based on paper, e-card, e-mail, Short Message Service (SMS), and Multimedia Message Service (MMS) are very beneficial media to strengthen a religious greeting cards is regardes as representation of the value of a related religious celebration itself. Most religious greeting cards use holy visual sign on them, in which it is extremely interesting to be studied. Therefore, this study was concentrated on the use of holy visual sign on Chinese New Year, Christmas, and EID Mubarak greeting cards. This study conducts in semiotics approach. As for the research methodology, this study employed the text analysis that is based on the semiotics approach. This text analysis used to identify and to describe the holy visual signs of the above-mentioned greetings cards. The holy aspect include such things as nature, space and time, commandment and speech, and figure. The study shows that there are some similarities and differences concerning the appearance of holy visual sign on the greeting cards to celebrate Chinese New Year, Christmas, and EID Mubarak. The study also shows that there were some similarities and differences about the meaning of holy visual signs on each of them could be the reasult of the similarities and differences of culturaly, religious background of the people in Indonesia.

Abstract

ABSTRACTHousewives is the potential targeted market in terms of formula milk then it is necessary to understand very well about the children's visual characteristic strategy on milk formula advertisements. This research focuses on the perception of the homemakers where the appearance of the kids on TV advertisement SGM Explore 1+ version "manifesto" and "the artist" version as a reference in future design. Regarding the results of the FGD with five homemakers which hold to mining the perception about advertisement and the appearances of the kids inside it. Reaffirming the results that authors gain from FGD, founds that the child who loved visually characterized as active, smart, independent, cheerful and responsive, brave, easy to get along with, creative and close to parents. The kids during the advertisement act to construct the 'interest and relevance' of the housewives to construct the perception. There are metaphors and metonyms both the advertisement. Children in the "the artist" version have a chance to gain the attention and perception bigger that "manifesto" version. The child in the "manifesto" version perceived as not yet creative and less intelligent by the housewives, in contrast, the child through the "the artist" version has the strong persuasive potential rather than "manifesto" version. This research found that there was some noise during the advertisement for "manifesto" version and there was no noise  during the advertisement for "the artist." Keywords: mother, target audience, advertising, perception, child

Abstract

Typography has become a very important thing in the world of cinema. Its existence is undeniably can be an attraction for a film. In addition to its function to convey the title, typography also has a function as the identity of a film. This identity can certainly represent and reveal the characters behind the film through its visuals. One of the typography in film titles that has a characteristic in each film is Disney animated films. Typography in the title of Disney animated films with the adventure genre certainly has a variety of typography because the adventure genre has many things that happen in the film, from fear, courage, sadness, to joy. Typographic analysis in the title of this film is reviewed based on the Machin's Inventory of Typographical Meaning Potentials method by van Leeuwen through the character approach in the film. With this, designers can create typography for film titles that match the character of the film.

Abstract

The development of the visualization of the Prophet Muhammad in Islamic children's illustration books published in Indonesia from 2012 to 2021 is interesting to analyze with various creative solutions from illustrators who continue to apply Islamic law in introducing these important Muslim figures from an early age. The purpose of this study was to identify and analyze by design the development of the visualization of the Prophet Muhammad in Islamic children's illustration books published in Indonesia from 2012 to 2021. The research method used is descriptive, with a qualitative approach. The data collected was analyzed, until finally it can be concluded that all illustrators visualize Him in illustrations of green, yellow, and white light with the word “Muhammad” in Arabic at the center.

Abstract

There are various response and reaction when someone is facing grief. Most of the people who went through it, will experience the Stage of Grief. The theory of Stage of Grief is still unusual to some people because the lack of literacy about related theory, especially for teenagers. Another factor that takes effect is teenager’s reading interest. Nowadays, zine is a visual media that is appealing and effective enough for the young readers. This research will study some literacy that contains Stage of Grief theory using the qualitative descriptive method. Based on the theories that are used (Stage of Grief theory, theory about effects of visual elements on reading interest, and theory about zine), a conclusion was made that zine is an appropriate literacy choice for young readers, where the text and illustration have a balanced proportion. Zine as a visual media is enough to make the readers to understand the contents easier.

Abstract

This study aims to discover how the construction of meaning is formed in young mothers regarding theappearance of the character design of the mother figure on the Instagram account Parenting is Easy. The urgencyof this research relates to the phenomenon of using Instagram and the design of the character of the motherfigure as a media for parenting education. This phenomenon will affect the meaning of young mothers in thecharacter design of the mother figure, which beginsto shift due to technological factors and different generations.The meaning of young mothers in the character design of the mother figure will also affect the identity andparenting pattern formed. This study uses a qualitative approach with phenomenological methods. Theconclusion of this study obtained the construction of meaning formed in the design of the character of the motherfigure. These meanings are categorized into two groups: the emotional young mother category and the trendyyoung mother category, which also construct the meaning of two different parenting patterns.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the visualization of damar kurung's painting with Nyonya Muluk theme and its meaning in the context of Javanese culture critically. It was stated that the figure of Nyonya Muluk was inspired by Masmundari's experience of meeting the Queen of the Netherlands who had visited Surabaya. Nyonya Muluk is described as a large woman who wears a dress and jewelery and has a pair of wings. Around her are other human figures painted in smaller sizes. To pursue the aim this study, the analysis was conducted using Gillian Rose's visual methodology which takes the position of the site of self. The analysis of this study found how Masmundari depicts objects by combining opposing cultural elements reflecting that the postcolonial subject is never completely the position of the colonized or the colonizing self. The ambivalence that arises in the practice of mutual views shows a form of negotiation or resistance from the colonized position. Masmundari's remitology also depicts the Indonesian nation as a colonized party trying to decolonize itself from colonial rule. By relocating the mythology of Nyonya Muluk in a contemporary context, this painting shows the efforts of the Indonesian people to regain 'independence' by using local traditions to fight against the culture imposed by the colonialists. In short, it can be concluded that the remitology of Nyonya Muluk in amar kurung's painting not only reflects Masmundari's resistance to Western colonial and post-colonial rule, but also represents Masmundari's resilience to the definition of her identity as Javanese.

Abstract

Gender discrimination in the form of stereotyping towards males is an issue that is often overlooked. In order to meet the demands of being a “real man”, men are often generalized into stereotypes such as: acting rough, aggressive, forbidden to show weakness, and are expected to do jobs and activities that rely more on physical strength and exist in public spaces. Let’s Read! Indonesia is an organization from Asia with a digital library for children that is able to address heavy issues such as gender equality, providing a platform for children to learn while also being a means to reconstruct masculine stereotypes from an early age. This research aims to analyse the visual representation of male main characters in Let’s Read! Indonesia’s books and determine whether these depictions embody masculine stereotypes or not. The characters’ visuals were analysed using the ideational metafunction, which examines their characteristic form (expression, attitude, and appearance), activities, and the activity space. From the five books that were examined, three of the main characters were found to exhibit masculine stereotypes, while the other two exhibited conflicting characteristics towards masculine stereotypes.

Abstract

Stress dan depresi pada anak seringkali tidak disadari dan diabaikan, terlebih karena anak belum paham mengenai stress dan depresi dan belum mengenal gejalanya. Edukasi stress dan depresi kepada anak harus dilakukan dengan cara yang ringan, menyenangkan, dan mudah dipahami, salah satunya melalui media buku anak yang tidak terlepas dari ilustrasi buku anak. Bahasa visual pun menjadi penting dalam pembuatan ilustrasi buku anak. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menganalisis Bahasa visual dalam ilustrasi buku anak yang mengangkat tema stress dan depresi dengan studi kasus buku anak berjudul Balloons for Papa guna menghasilkan suatu kesimpulan yang kedepannya dapat diaplikasikan dalam perancangan buku anak bertema stress dan depresi.

Abstract

AbstrakPendidikan merupakan investasi jangka panjang yang perlu diperhatikan sejak dini. Dukungan lembaga pendidikan prasekolah dianggap penting guna mendampingi orang tua memberikan tahapan stimulus yang sesuai hingga dapat memaksimalkan potensi anak. Dikarenakan kondisi COVID-19, pertemuan tatap muka berganti menjadi pembelajaran jarak jauh (PJJ), begitu pula pada level pendidikan prasekolah. Aspek motorik, kognitif, sosial, serta emosional anak sedang berkembang pesat di usia 2-6 tahun. Dibutuhkan interaksi intensif untuk memberikan stimuli, ruang gerak, ruang bicara dan berekspresi, serta pengalaman sosial. Pada penelitian ini diteliti adaptasi lembaga pendidikan prasekolah untuk menghadirkan ragam stimulus ini di rumah, dengan memaksimalkan penggunaan media digital dan analog. Hasil penelitian menyatakan bahwa jenis aktivitas yang paling diminati oleh anak yaitu eksperimen sains (20%), story telling (20%), menggambar (16%), dan pertemuan kelas daring melalui Zoom (13%). Aktivitas yang diminati oleh anak usia TK A dan TK B berbeda. Pada usia lebih besar, anak tertarik pada tantangan, kompetisi, dan eksplorasi. Sistem blended learning diterapkan sebagai penyeimbang media belajar analog dan digital, serta pembelajaran konvensional dan aktivitas mandiri.   Kata kunci: Sistem Pembelajaran Campuran, Media Edukasi Digital, Lembaga Prasekolah Daring AbstractEducation is a long-term investment that needs our attention since the early stage of our children. Support from preschool institutions is considered important for accompanying parents to provide appropriate stimulus stages to obtain maximizing the potential of the child. Due to the condition of COVID-19, all classes change to online learning, likewise at preschool education level. Motor, cognitive, social, and emotional aspects is growing rapidly at the age of 2-6 years. Intensive interaction is required to provide stimuli, space for movement, space for speech and expression, as well as social experience. This research examines the adaptation of preschool education to present these kinds of stimuli at home, with maximize the use of digital and analogue media. The results showed that the types of activities most interested for children were science experiments (20%), story telling (20%), drawing (16%), and online class meetings through Zoom (13%). Children from kindergarten A and kindergarten B have different readability. At an older age, children are attracted to challenges, competition, and exploration. The blended learning system is applied as a counterweight to analogue and digital learning media, as well as conventional learning and independent activities. Keywords: Blended-Learning System, Digital Media Education, Online Preschool
