Abstract

Forests in Indonesia have the potential for flora, fauna, ecosystems and tropical forests. It turns out that this huge forest potential is still not paid enough attention by Indonesia. At least 286 million hectares of Indonesian forest experienced deforestation from 2001 to 2021. In that period West Kalimantan contributed 40% of deforestation in Indonesia. This deforestation can trigger climate change and threaten the existence of biodiversity and rural communities (indigenous people). Concerns about deforestation require strategic handling. Implementation of the FORCLIME Program is the answer to implementing REDD+ Mitigation in Indonesia. This research discusses the implementation of the FORCLIME program in dealing with deforestation in Kapuas Hulu Regency, West Kalimantan in 2019-2021? This research uses qualitative research methods, with document data collection techniques (document analysis) sourced from books, international and national journals, official government and non-government documents, as well as news and press release activity. The research results show that the implementation of the FORCLIME Program is carried out at three levels. At the national level the strategy focuses on policies, strategies and institutional plans for forest management. At the regional level, providing advice regarding plans, REDD+ readlines, community and community-based forest management through DPMU. At the site/local level, it is an implementation activity Demonstration Area (DA). DA activities include conservation, land use management, increasing knowledge and sustainable community income and demonstration plot agroforestry.

Abstract

Commercial sexual exploitation of children still frequently occurs in the world, particularly in Thailand. The extremely high level of vulnerability has drawn the attention of international organizations to take preventive measures. One international organization actively addressing the issue of child sexual exploitation is End Child Prostitution and Trafficking (ECPAT). This study elaborates on the important role of ECPAT in dealing with issues related to child exploitation practices. This research utilizes Civil Society Organization (CSO) theory to analyze the role of ECPAT in addressing the issue of Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) in Thailand. The research method used is qualitative with an analytical descriptive model. Secondary data is obtained through a literature review from various sources, including books, academic journals, official websites, and annual reports from relevant organizations. ECPAT plays three key roles in preventing child sexual exploitation in Thailand. First, as an educator, ECPAT provides education on the dangers of sexual exploitation in schools. Second, as an agenda setter, ECPAT researches new trends and designs preventive policies. Third, as a counterpart, ECPAT collaborates with private institutions, NGOs, INGOs, and the government to strengthen efforts in the prevention and handling of CSEC cases. This study demonstrates that ECPAT has effectively implemented its programs despite facing significant challenges. With strong commitment, ECPAT has played a crucial role in reducing the incidence of commercial sexual exploitation of children in Thailand in 2019. Abstract

More than a decade after its launch, under Xi Jinping’s leadership has successfully dominated the global economic landscape and expanded China’s geopolitical influence. In response, the European Union introduced the Global Gateway as an alternative infrastructure funding initiative, promoting sustainability and mitigating the risks of ‘debt trap’ associated with China’s BRI. This study analyzes the effectiveness of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) as a geopolitical strategy for China following the emergence of the Global Gateway. Employing a qualitative methodology, data collection was conducted through document analysis from books, journals, articles, and websites. The study adopts a Realist perspective and utilizes Joseph Nye's Soft Power Theory. The research should explain how Global Gateway marks a new chapter in global economic competition. Evidence suggests that China's BRI remains more promising compared to the EU's initiative, as indicated by political stability and an increasing number of partnerships. This is attributed to BRI's lending system, which appears less encumbered by internal complexities faced by the European Union. Keywords: Belt and Road Initiative, Global Gateway, Geopolitics.

Abstract

International trade is an essential aspect of every country's economy. Economic benefits and domestic growth are achieved through the opening of trade with other nations. These impacts arise directly from changes in resource allocation and efficiency and indirectly through higher levels of investment. The Fourth Industrial Revolution has also fundamentally transformed the way people live, work, and create value worldwide. New technologies and applications connect individuals, organizations, and machines at an unprecedented scale and speed. This qualitative research employs data collection techniques sourced from books, journals, theses, official documents, reports, and websites relevant to the study. The research also adopts a mercantilist perspective with an analysis at the nation-state level, incorporating the concepts of national interest and competitive strategy. The findings of this study indicate that PT Bukit Asam’s strategy successfully enhanced operational performance by producing competitive outputs in 2023. This success resulted from efficient production methods and strong production performance supported by mining contractor services. Keywords: China, Coal, PT Bukit Asam, Global Market

Abstract

As an archipelagic country with a geostrategic position along global trade routes, Indonesia considers ports as vital infrastructure in supporting export and import activities. However, Belawan Port, one of the main ports in North Sumatra, continues to face various challenges, particularly in terms of infrastructure limitations and operational inefficiencies. This study aims to analyze the impact of the bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates through the Shareholder Agreement (SHA) scheme on the improvement of Belawan Port infrastructure during Phase I. Employing a descriptive-qualitative approach, data were collected through literature review, official document analysis, and strategic policy evaluation. The findings indicate that the implementation of the SHA involving PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo), the Indonesia Investment Authority (INA), and Dubai Port World (DP World) has accelerated port modernization, enhanced the attractiveness of foreign direct investment (FDI), and improved national logistics efficiency. Beyond economic dimensions, the cooperation also emphasizes sustainable development principles by integrating environmental considerations into both the planning and operational stages of the port. This cooperation model represents a strategic, adaptive, and visionary cross-border partnership that can serve as a reference for the development of maritime infrastructure based on international collaboration. Keywords: Shareholder Agreement, Port Infrastructure, Belawan Port, Foreign Investment, Sustainable Development.
