Abstract

Social media has transformed how sports fans interact, enabling virtual communities that foster strong emotional bonds with their favorite clubs. However, online fan communities face challenges in maintaining content consistency, increasing engagement, and reinforcing collective identity amid growing competition. This study examines how members of the Pena Real Madrid Brebes community use Instagram and explores their motives for following the @madridistaindo_brebes account. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and literature review, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The findings reveal that Instagram serves as the community’s primary communication medium, with content distributed through features such as feeds, Stories, and Reels. These features are optimized to deliver information, entertainment, and interactive content. Members’ motivations align with the uses and gratification framework. Overall, Instagram plays a central role in fulfilling both informational and psychological needs while sthrengthening engagement within the fan community. Furthermore, this study contributes by providing empirical insight into how localized fan communities strategically utilize Instagram features to sustain engagement and reinforce collective identity, while extending the    application of uses and gratifications theory within the context of digital sports fandom.

Abstract

The presence of the Meta Verified feature on Instagram shifts the paradigm of digital authenticity from organic reputation to an economy-based symbol. This study aims to analyze the motivations of students at Gunung Jati University (UGJ), the social meaning, and the social validation obtained through the purchase of blue ticks. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with four informants, participant observation of account activities, and a study of documentation sourced from scientific journals and textbooks to strengthen the validity of the findings. The results of the study show that the informants' motivation was driven by the processing of impressions to build visual credibility. From a communication perspective, the active use of the blue tick plays a role in creating self-identity in the digital public sphere. In addition, possession of the verification symbol triggers an increase in digital literacy, whereby users become more careful and selective when managing content. Technical and social validation has been proven to improve students' self-concept as it brings social status recognition. The research conclusion confirms that the blue tick for students is a commodity of prestige that provides symbolic satisfaction and legitimizes their position in both digital and real social stratification.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of public relations in disseminating information about public transportation, using the Trans Cirebon Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) as a case study. The background of this study is based on the still-limited dissemination of information regarding BRT routes, schedules, and services, which has resulted in low public interest in using public transportation. This study employs a qualitative approach using the case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and a literature review, with informants selected using purposive sampling. The theoretical framework consists of Dozier and Broom’s Theory of the Role of Public Relations and Cutlip and Center’s Communication Planning Strategy. The results indicate that public relations plays a crucial role in disseminating information through four primary functions: as an expert prescriber, a communication facilitator, a problem-solving process facilitator, and a communication technician. However, the implementation of these roles has not been optimal, particularly regarding the equitable distribution of information to the public. In addition, obstacles were identified, including limited route coverage, limited access to bus stops, and a lack of effective communication strategies. The limited dissemination of information is one of the factors contributing to low public interest, which has led to the suspension of Trans Cirebon BRT operations. Therefore, a more integrated and effective communication strategy is needed to raise awareness and encourage the use of public transportation among the public.

Abstract

Advances in digital technology and social media have transformed how Generation Z interacts, contributing to the emergence of Relationships Without Status, a romantic relationship characterized by emotional intimacy without formal commitment. This study aims to explore the meaning of Relationships Without Status among Generation Z in Cirebon, identify the emotional and social challenges they experience, and examine the influence of the local socio-cultural environment. A qualitative phenomenological approach was employed using in-depth interviews with five informants, supported by non-participant observation, documentation, and a literature review. Data were analyzed through transcript coding, data reduction, thematic interpretation, and narrative presentation. The findings indicate that Relationships Without Status provide emotional freedom and opportunities for self-discovery but also generate anxiety, uncertainty, overthinking, and social pressure due to the absence of commitment. In Cirebon, where religious and traditional values remain influential, these relationships reflect a negotiation between modern relationship practices and prevailing social norms, highlighting both emotional flexibility and psychological vulnerability among Generation Z.

Abstract

The rapid development of social media, particularly TikTok, has transformed the way adolescents access information and form public opinions. The viral teenage bullying case in Cilacap in 2023 illustrates how TikTok can influence adolescents’ perceptions of social issues. This research aims to examine the role of TikTok in shaping public opinion regarding the Cilacap bullying case among adolescents in Cirebon City and Cirebon Regency from the perspective of New Media Theory. A qualitative case study design was employed, involving eight adolescents aged 15–18 years who actively used TikTok and became aware of the case through the platform. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and documentation, then analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings reveal that TikTok served as the primary source of information for adolescents in following the case. The interactive, participatory, and rapid characteristics of new media facilitated public opinion formation through audiovisual content, comment sections, repost features, and user engagement. The study identified differences in digital participation between adolescents from Cirebon City and Cirebon Regency, with participants from Cirebon City showing greater involvement in expressing opinions and sharing information, while participants from Cirebon Regency tended to engage more passively in discussions. Furthermore, exposure to the case increased adolescents’ awareness of digital literacy and highlighted the importance of verifying information before accepting or redistributing content. This study concludes that TikTok plays a significant role in shaping adolescent public opinion through interactivity, user participation, and rapid information dissemination. However, these advantages must be supported by adequate digital literacy to encourage critical evaluation of information and responsible social media use.

Abstract

The social media platform Tiktok has had a significant impact on the life of Generation Z, especially in terms of their social interactions and mental health. The intensity of use has increased and has resulted in the phenomenon of Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) which is the fear of being out of the loop of information and social activities. The research problem is the nature of the FOMO phenomenon in TikTok users of Generation Z, the extent of social anxiety that occurs in them and the relationship between FOMO and social anxiety in TikTok users. The aim of this study is to analyse the experience of FOMO among Generation Z TikTok users and to understand the association of FOMO with social anxiety. The study had a qualitative approach and a phenomenological method. The data were obtained through in-depth interviews with Generation Z students who actively use TikTok. Also, the data were collected by reviewing the literature from scientific journals and relevant books about FOMO, social comparison, and social anxiety. The results suggest that using TikTok leads to social comparison, FOMO and the need to be constantly connected online. These factors contribute to developing social anxiety that manifests as low self-confidence and concern about the judgment of others. The research revealed a strong link between Generation Z TikTok users and FOMO and social anxiety.

Abstract

Conflict in romantic relationships is an inevitable part of interpersonal communication. One common response to conflict in Generation Z romantic relationships is the silent treatment, a form of silence used to express emotions or withdraw from communication. Previous studies have primarily examined the silent treatment from a psychological perspective rather than as nonverbal communication in interpersonal relationships. This study aims to understand the meaning of the silent treatment as a form of nonverbal communication in Generation Z romantic relationship conflicts. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, this study explored participants’ subjective experiences of the silent treatment. Six participants, consisting of three Generation Z couples, were selected through purposive sampling based on their experience with relationship conflicts involving the silent treatment. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and in-depth interviews, then analyzed using theories of nonverbal communication and interpersonal conflict. The findings show that the silent treatment is interpreted as a form of nonverbal communication used to express emotions, prevent conflict escalation, and create space for emotional regulation. It is reflected through avoiding eye contact, changes in facial expressions, silence during interactions, and reduced digital communication with partners. In all cases, the silent treatment was temporary and generally followed by reconciliation when communication resumed. These findings suggest that the silent treatment does not always have negative consequences but can also function as a strategy for emotional regulation and conflict management in Generation Z romantic relationships.

Abstract

Marriage is a significant life stage shaped by social norms, particularly in rural communities. Among Generation Z, social pressure and Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) can influence perceptions and decisions about marriage. This study aims to identify the forms of social pressure and FOMO experienced by Generation Z in Astanajapura Village, explore the factors contributing to FOMO, and describe their subjective experiences in responding to marriage-related expectations. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with five unmarried Generation Z participants. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify recurring themes and emotional experiences. The findings reveal that FOMO is reflected in feelings of being left behind when peers marry first, a strong desire to marry immediately, and frequent social comparisons. These feelings are influenced by pressures from family, relatives, neighbors, and peers, as well as prevailing social norms regarding marriage. Despite experiencing anxiety due to social pressure and FOMO, participants considered mental, emotional, and financial readiness as the primary factors in deciding to marry rather than external expectations

Abstract

The phenomenon of insecurity is increasingly experienced by college students alongside the growing use of social media, particularly Instagram. This study aims to identify the factors contributing to feelings of insecurity among active Instagram users at Swadaya Gunung Jati University, as well as the efforts made to address them. This study employs a qualitative phenomenological approach using in-depth interviews with students as research informants. The results indicate that feelings of insecurity are primarily driven by internal and external factors. Internal factors include a lack of emotional support from family, unmet physiological needs, low emotional intelligence, and difficulties in expressing emotions. External factors stem mainly from Instagram use, particularly regarding self-presentation, social presence, and a tendency toward social comparison. Early-stage interactions on social media have not been able to meet the need for social acceptance and support, thereby causing feelings of insecurity. This study also found that students make various efforts to overcome feelings of insecurity through self-reflection, self-acceptance, and managing their use of social media.

Aseanindo Network Solutions This research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach, data is collected through in-depth interviews with HRD managers and employees. While data analysis uses the Miles and Huberman interactive model which includes three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The research results show that effective interpersonal communication is understood by informants as an important factor in supporting smooth work, creating a harmonious working relationship, and reducing potential problems in the work environment. This finding is in line with Joseph Devito 1989's interpersonal communication theory which emphasizes the importance of openness, empathy, supportive attitude, positive attitude, and equality in work interaction. However, there are still several communication barriers, such as miscommunication and differences in perception between individuals, which have the potential to hinder the smoothness of work and reduce productivity. Therefore, improving the quality of interpersonal communication needs to be done sustainably to support the achievement of organizational goals.
