Abstract

This research is motivated by the rapid growth of the coffee industry and F&B businesses, which encourages companies to focus not only on profit but also on social engagement. The study aims to analyze the implementation of education-based CSR at Kopi Kabi, its impact on business development, and the factors influencing its effectiveness. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach through interviews, observations, and documentation with purposively selected informants. The results show that the educational CSR program was implemented flexibly according to community needs and received a positive response from stakeholders. This program improved the skills, knowledge, and confidence of participants and encouraged entrepreneurial activity in the F&B sector. The program's effectiveness was influenced by its alignment with community needs, stakeholder support, accountability, and the company's adaptability. These findings confirm that educational CSR plays a strategic role in building social legitimacy and business sustainability.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the representation of the mandala symbol in the film Ketika Berhenti di Sini as a visual construction of the process of letting go. The study employs a qualitative approach using media text analysis through Roland Barthes’ semiotic framework, which examines meaning at the levels of denotation, connotation, and myth. The analysis is further enriched by Stuart Hall’s theory of representation and Carl Gustav Jung’s analytical psychology to understand the construction of meaning and the psychological dynamics of the characters. The findings reveal that the mandala symbol functions as a system of signs that maps the transformation of the main character’s inner condition from imbalance, attachment, and denial toward the attainment of inner balance and self-wholeness (the Self). The shift in meaning associated with the north, west, south, and east directions represents the stages of the individuation process. Interview findings with filmmakers and audiences indicate that the mandala symbol serves as a narrative device that strengthens the representation of the character’s psychological dynamics while also opening spaces for diverse interpretations among viewers. This study contributes to the development of Indonesian film semiotics by integrating representation theory and analytical psychology in interpreting visual symbols as representations of characters’ psychological dynamics.

Abstract

Interpersonal communication is a key factor in determining service quality in the tourism industry, particularly in interactions between tour leaders and tourists, as it contributes to tourists’ sense of security, comfort, and emotional connection. However, these interactions often encounter various challenges, including tourists’ reluctance to express complaints, misunderstandings of information, and situational pressures during tours. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of interpersonal communication between tour leaders and tourists at Cakrawala Perdana Tour and Travel and to identify barriers encountered during the communication process. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews with two tour leaders as primary informants and two tourists as supporting informants. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model and DeVito’s five dimensions of interpersonal communication effectiveness: openness, empathy, supportiveness, positiveness, and equality. The findings indicated that effective interpersonal communication was demonstrated through clear information delivery, attentiveness to tourists’ feelings, the creation of a sense of security, consistently friendly interactions, and equitable and participatory treatment. The identified communication barriers included tourists’ reluctance to express complaints, misunderstandings arising from sudden schedule changes, difficulties in recognizing tourists’ emotions in crowded situations, time constraints, emotional pressure, and the dominance of certain participants in group interactions. To overcome these barriers, tour leaders employed several communication strategies, including the use of digital communication channels, emotional validation, personalized communication approaches, and priority setting.

Abstract

Communication ability is a key competency in the professional and business worlds. However, many individuals still face challenges such as low self-confidence and limited knowledge of communication techniques. This Community Service (PKM) initiative aimed to enhance hotel staff communication competencies in Malaysia through public speaking training using a Participatory Learning and Education approach. Participants were actively engaged through material delivery, interactive discussions, presentation simulations, and communication practice. A qualitative evaluation was conducted through in-depth interviews to assess changes in participants' knowledge, attitudes, and skills. The results indicated improvements in professional communication competencies, including understanding of public speaking principles, effective application of verbal and non-verbal techniques, systematic presentation structuring, and increased self-confidence. Participants also applied more persuasive presentation techniques in the workplace, receiving positive feedback from audiences and colleagues. These findings demonstrate that practice-based community service programs serve as an effective strategy for community empowerment.
