Abstract

Background: During and after the COVID-19 pandemic, many academics and researchers in English Language Teaching (ELT) have studied a variety of issues faced in various types of online teaching and learning, including examining the efficacy of the Blended Learning (BL) approach as a result of the emergency remote and fully online learning or e-learning in response to the learning-from-home policy. Nevertheless, the researchers discovered that only a few studies employed a narrative inquiry method to explore students' perspectives, stories, and voices relating to their ways of learning during and after the pandemic. Objective: This study helped the researchers better understand the challenges students faced and the adjustments they made, providing unique insights that other methods might miss. Methods: This study addresses that gap by examining the stories and views of nine EFL students from three Indonesian universities who experienced various learning modes during and after the pandemic, including face-to-face, fully online, and blended classes. The students were requested to share their experiences and viewpoints about the BL approach through open-ended questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. The methods and tools from the narrative analysis were then employed to analyze the gathered stories and responses. Findings: The findings indicate that while most students supported BL using appropriate online tools, their understanding of the approach varied, emphasizing the need for specific conditions for its successful implementation.   Conclusion: This study contributes to the understanding of the approach variations of BL.

Abstract

This study aims to reflect on the problems and challenges in teaching culture to English Young Learners (EYL) primarily related to the English context. The study focused on two objectives; to find out problems and challenges faced by the teacher in teaching culture for EYL, as well as the effective methods used to teach culture for EYL. Recently, many more pre-schools in Indonesia have offered English as a major in the learning process. For example, KB TK Hj Isriati Baiturrahman 2 made English as a central subject in daily life. Ideally, the teachers are required to know English culture besides the teaching itself. However, they found some problems in teaching culture when they asked the students to practice how to say, go to the toilet in English; it made students perspectives in their home opposites. This study tried to investigate this issue from the teachers problems. The interviews and classroom observations data showed that the cultural aspects of language were still not good. The possible strategies also showed a solution to face the problems. Thus, teaching English in Indonesia should consider the culture because to communicate functionally using the language and the students have to be familiar with the culture.

Abstract

Children with dyslexia often experience difficulties in reading, spelling, and phonological processing, which may hinder their literacy development. Although various educational applications have been developed to support learning, many existing platforms do not sufficiently integrate multisensory learning principles and game-based features that are essential for supporting children with dyslexia. Therefore, this study aims to develop and validate LexiPlay, a multisensory game-based learning application designed to support literacy development among children with dyslexia, and to examine its validity and practicality as a learning medium. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach based on the Borg and Gall model. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The development process involved expert validation, instrument validation, individual trials, and small-group trials with students with dyslexia. The collected data were analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The results indicate that the LexiPlay application achieved a “highly valid” classification based on expert evaluation and was considered “highly practical” based on limited field testing. The application integrates multisensory learning elements, gamification features, and a dyslexia-friendly interface, which contribute to improving student engagement and supporting early literacy learning. These findings suggest that LexiPlay has strong potential as an innovative digital learning tool to support literacy development in children with dyslexia and provide important implications for special education, inclusive education practices, and the development of evidence-based digital learning interventions.
