Abstract

Demodekosis adalah penyakit kulit yang disebabkan oleh tungau dari genus Demodex. Tungau Demodex merupakan flora normal yang hidup di dalam folikel rambut dan kelenjar sebaseus. Penyakit ini terjadi secara alami dalam dua bentuk, yaitu lokal dan general. Anjing kasus yang berumur tiga bulan mengalami gejala klinis pruritus. Adanya jumlah tungau Demodex yang banyak pada tubuh menyebabkan terjadinya peradangan pada bagian kulit yang disertai dengan adanya gejala pruritus. Pemeriksaan klinis ditemukannya lesi alopesia dan papula pada wajah dan dada. Hasil pemeriksaan hematologi anjing kasus, menunjukkan bahwa anjing mengalami anemia makrositik hipokromik dan trombositopenia dengan penurunan jumlah sel darah merah (4,52x10^12/L; nilai referensi, 5,50-8,50x10^12/L), kenaikan jumlah MCV (76,6 fL; nilai referensi, 62,0-72,0 fL), penurunan jumlah MCHC (274 g/L; nilai referensi, 300-380 g/L), dan penurunan platelet (49x10^9/L; nilai referensi 117-460x10^9/L). Hasil pemeriksaan deep skin scraping ditemukan adanya tungau Demodex sp. sehingga anjing kasus di diagnosis demodekosis. Anjing kasus diberikan terapi kausatif berupa ivermectin dengan dosis anjuran 0,4 mg/kg BB secara subkutan dengan interval pengulangan dua minggu sekali selama satu bulan, terapi simtomatis diberikan difenhidramin HCl dengan dosis 1 mg/kg BB secara subkutan dengan interval pengulangan sekali seminggu selama satu bulan, dan terapi suportif berupa fish oil diberikan satu kapsul/hari selama satu bulan. Anjing kasus juga dimandikan dengan shampoo benzoil peroksida dengan interval pengulangan sekali seminggu selama satu bulan. Setelah dua minggu terapi, anjing kasus sudah dinyatakan membaik.

Abstract

Seekor anjing peranakan dachshund, berjenis kelamin jantan, berumur delapan tahun, dengan bobot badan 5,4 kg datang ke Rumah Sakit Hewan Pendidikan, Fakultas Kedokteran Hewan, Universitas Udayana, dengan keluhan muntah, kesulitan menelan, dan regurgitasi. Pemeriksaan fisik teramati adanya bengkak di leher, nyeri, dan ada reflek muntah saat dipalpasi. Hasil pemeriksaan radiografi menunjukkan adanya benda asing di dalam esofagus. Berdasarkan anamnesis, gejala klinis, dan pemeriksaan radiografi, disimpulkan bahwa anjing kasus mengalami obstruksi benda asing di dalam esofagus. Sebelum melakukan penanganan, anjing dianastesi terlebih dahulu dengan premedikasi menggunakan atropin sulfat dengan dosis anjuran 0,02-0,04 mg/kg BB diberikan secara subkutan. Anastesi diberikan kombinasi xylazine dengan dosis anjuran 1-3 mg/kg BB dan ketamin dengan dosis anjuran 10-15 mg/kg BB diberikan secara intramuskuler. Pengangkatan benda asing berupa sepotong tulang di dalam esofagus berhasil dikeluarkan melalui rongga mulut dibantu dengan alat forceps. Terapi yang diberikan pasca pengangkatan potongan tulang di dalam esofagus antara lain: asam tolfenamat dengan dosis anjuran 4 mg/kg BB secara intramuskuler, antibiotik doxycycline dengan dosis anjuran 4,4-11 mg/kg BB diberikan peroral (dua kali sehari) selama satu minggu, dan prednisone dengan dosis anjuran 0,5 -1 mg/kg BB (satu kali sehari) selama tiga hari. Anjing mengalami kesembuhan pada hari kedua setelah pengangkatan benda asing berupa tulang ayam, ditandai dengan anjing mulai makan dan minun dengan normal.

Abstract

Skabiosis pada kucing merupakan penyakit yang menular disebabkan oleh tungau Sarcoptes scabiei dari genus Sarcoptes. Laporan kasus ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui diagnosis pada penyakit skabiosis dengan metode superficial skin scraping dan pemeriksaan penunjang yaitu pemeriksaan hematologi rutin. Seekor kucing domestik diperiksa di Laboratorium Ilmu Penyakit Dalam Veteriner, Fakultas Kedokteran Hewan, Universitas Udayana dengan anamnesis mengalami kerontokan dan gatal-gatal. Hasil pemeriksaan klinis terdapat hiperkeratosis pada telinga, krusta pada telinga luar, dan leher, alopesia pada regio leher disertai eritema pada wajah dan leher. Kucing menunjukkan gejala pruritus skor 8/10 dengan menggaruk-garuk daerah telinga dan tengkuk. Pemeriksaan skin scraping di bawah mikroskop ditemukan tungau dan telur dari Sarcoptes scabiei. Hasil dari pemeriksaan hematologi rutin diperoleh peningkatan White Blood Cell (WBC) dan granulosit, sedangkan nilai platelet dan plateletcrit (PCT) mengalami penurunan. Hal ini menginterpretasikan bahwa kucing kasus mengalami leukositosis, granulositosis, dan trombositopenia. Kucing kasus didiagnosis mengalami skabiosis dengan prognosa fausta. Pengobatan menggunakan ivermectin 0,02 mg/kg BB secara subkutan dengan dua kali pemberian pada interval 14 hari dan sabun sulfur digunakan untuk mandi dua kali seminggu. Terapi simptomatik berupa diphenhydramine HCl 1 mg/kg BB secara intramuskular satu kali pemberian selama dua hari berturut-turut dan terapi suportif diberikan fish oil satu kapsul sehari selama 30 hari. Dari penggunaan terapi tersebut menunjukkan hasil yang baik dengan ditandai perubahan pada area lesi yang menunjukkan kesembuhan pada hari ke-7 pasca pemberian terapi.

Abstract

Canine parvovirus (CPV) is an infectious disease with clinical signs of bloody diarrhea (hemorrhagic enteritis) which is cause of death in infected dogs. A five-month-old female local dog with a weight of 4.3 kg, black and white coat on the ventral side came to the Rumah Sakit Hewan Pendidikan, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University with complaints of weakness, loss of appetite since the day before and vomiting in the morning of the examination. The dog is rescued and never been vaccinated before. Clinical examination showed weakness such as holding pain, pink pale eye mucosae, delayed skin turgor, Capillary Refill Time (CRT) more than two seconds, and increased respiratory rate. Dogs do not respond to handfeeding. On observation the dog experienced clear and foamy vomiting and foul-smelling bloody diarrhea. The native stool faecal examination showed negative results, while the CPV antigen rapid test examination showed positive results. Complete blood count showed that on the first day of hospitalization the dog had leukopenia, granulocytopenia, hyperchromic normocytic anemia and thrombocytopenia. The dog was diagnosed with CPV with a dubious prognosis. Dogs were given fluid therapy using sodium chloride 0.9% infusion and vitamin B complex, anti-emetic ondansetron, antibiotic cefotaxime, and vitamin K. Dogs were also treated with traditional medicine Fu Fang 1 mL and trigona honey 1 mL. Dogs are given a special feed Hills Prescription Diet A/D Urgent Care. The dog's condition improved after offering therapy for seven days and the dog was declared cured and could be sent home on the ninth day.

Abstract

Background: Long-tailed macaques (Macaca fascicularis) frequently share their habitat with humans, leading to conflicts, especially when habitat disturbances force them to exploit human food sources. In response, humans sometimes use air rifles to deter these animals. Preventive measures such as sterilization programs, habitat restoration, and public education about responsible interactions with macaques are essential to reduce the occurrence of such incidents and promote coexistence. Purpose: This report describes the anesthesia and surgical management of gunshot wounds in long-tailed macaques. Case(s): Two adult free-ranging male long-tailed macaques in the Ubud Monkey Forest, Bali, Indonesia, were presented with gunshot wounds on the inguinal region and right caudal pelvic area, respectively. These macaques were captured and anesthetized for a scheduled vasectomy. A detailed clinical examination indicated that the projectiles were lodged in the subcutaneous tissue. Based on their shape and size, the projectiles were suspected to be 0.177 caliber (4.5 mm) air rifle pellets. Case Management: Surgical removal was performed to extract the air rifle pellets. Preoperatively, the macaques received amoxicillin (15 mg/kg BW, IM), ketorolac (2.5 mg/kg BW, IM), and Visine® eye lubricant. Propofol was used for anesthetic maintenance (1 mg/kg BW, IV). Following pellet removal, the wound was sutured with monofilament absorbable poliglecaprone 25, and the planned vasectomy was conducted using the bilateral incision method. Postoperatively, the macaques were administered atipamezole (0.02 mg/kg BW, IM) for anesthesia reversal, placed in recovery cages in lateral recumbency, and closely monitored. Conclusion: Once the macaques showed clear signs of recovery from anesthesia, they were transported back to the capture site and released into their original group.

Abstract

Background: Canine parvovirus (CPV) is a major cause of severe illness in dogs, particularly in unvaccinated puppies. The virus spreads rapidly and often leads to acute gastrointestinal disease with high morbidity and mortality. Purpose:  This case report describes the diagnosis and management of canine parvoviral enteritis in a young dog that presented with early clinical signs of infection. Case(s): A five-month-old female Golden Retriever named Golden, weighing 7.65 kg and light brown in color, was presented with a two-day history of anorexia, repeated vomiting (approximately five times per day), and bloody diarrhea. On physical examination, the patient was moderately dehydrated, with pale mucous membranes, delayed capillary refill time (>2 seconds), reduced skin turgor, and elevated heart and respiratory rates. Fecal examination revealed no intestinal parasites. Hematological analysis showed normocytic normochromic anemia, lymphocytosis, neutropenia, and thrombocytopenia. A rapid CPV antigen test confirmed the diagnosis of parvoviral infection. Based on the clinical and laboratory findings, the dog was diagnosed with canine parvoviral enteritis. Case Management: Treatment focused on supportive and symptomatic care. Cefotaxime (20 mg/kg body weight) was administered intravenously twice daily for five days to prevent secondary bacterial infection. To control vomiting, metoclopramide HCl (0.5 mg/kg body weight) was given intravenously. Supportive therapy included intravenous fluids (lactated Ringer’s solution) and vitamin B-complex supplementation. Conclusion:  The patient showed marked clinical improvement, including normalization of vital parameters, restoration of appetite and activity, and cessation of vomiting and diarrhea. The dog was considered clinically recovered at the end of the treatment period.

Abstract

Glukosa, kolesterol, dan asam urat merupakan bagian dari biokimia darah monyet ekor panjang yang dapat diperiksa menggunakan alat penunjang berupa GCU (glucose, cholesterol, uric acid) hemoglobin multiparameter, akan tetapi, alat ini sebelumnya belum pernah digunakan untuk menguji darah monyet ekor panjang karena alat tersebut ditujukan untuk manusia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbandingan nilai uji biokimia darah (glukosa, kolesterol, dan asam urat) menggunakan GCU hemoglobin multiparameter dengan biochemistry analyzer yang biasa digunakan sebagai acuan di laboratorium klinik hewan. Darah monyet ekor panjang diambil dari ujung jari untuk sampel yang diuji dengan GCU hemoglobin multiparameter dan dari vena femoralis untuk sampel yang diuji dengan biochemistry analyzer. Data diolah dengan uji T berpasangan, sehingga hasil perbandingan nilai dari alat GCU hemoglobin multiparameter dan biochemistry analyzer pada darah monyet ekor panjang menunjukkan perbedaan yang signifikan (p < 0.05).

Abstract

Deep pyoderma is a bacterial skin infection that affects the dermis and subcutaneous tissue. A 1-year-old female Persian mix local breed cat presented with complaints of itching for 5 days, accompanied by frequent scratching. On physical examination, dry lesions and wet lesions were found in the form of ulcers in the mandibularis and cranial sinister extremities, and moist wounds in the mandibularis dexter area, as well as alopecia and debris in the mandibularis, cervicalis sinister et dexter, axilla dexter, and cranial sinister extremities. Hematology examination showed leukopenia, lymphocytosis, and granulocytopenia. Cytologic examination found cocci-shaped bacteria. Based on history taking, physical examination, and supporting examination, the cat was diagnosed with deep pyoderma. The treatment given was amoxycilline-clavulanic acid at a dose of 62.5 mg/cat q12h PO for 7 days, betamethasone-neomycin sulfate twice a day until the wound heals, dexamethasone injection at a dose of 0.07 mg/kg BW q24h IM and continued with the administration of methylprednisolone PO at a dose of 2 mg/cat q12h for 3 days, fish oil softcapsules once a day for 7 days besides being given chlorhexidine gluconate 4%. The results of 24 days of treatment showed that the cat's skin condition had improved.
