Abstract

One of the goals of guidance and counseling in elementary schools is to develop and improve students' academic abilities to achieve maximum learning abilities. Collaborative guidance to increase motivation to read is very rare in schools, especially in elementary schools where class teachers handle many subjects. Guidance services in elementary schools can be integrated into thematic learning activities. The research objective was to determine the effectiveness of collaborative guidance services between Guidance and Counseling teachers and Indonesian Language teachers to increase students' reading motivation. This research uses a quantitative approach with an experimental method with a quasi-experimental research design with the CORI (Concept-Oriented Reading Instruction) program. The results of the study showed that collaborative guidance between counseling teachers and Indonesian teachers was effective in increasing elementary school students' reading motivation. Research is suggested for elementary school guidance and counseling teachers to collaborate with subject teachers as an effort to optimize guidance and counseling services. Indonesian teachers can provide input for guidance and counseling services in the classroom. For future researchers, it can increase reading variety, reading exploration time and the application of collaborative guidance to increase reading motivation.

Abstract

Humans are inherently social beings who seek interaction with others. One way to establish connections is through self-disclosure, which involves revealing personal information to others. Social media platforms like Instagram have become popular spaces for building relationships and enhancing interpersonal communication. This study aims to explore the self-disclosure tendencies of early adult Instagram users with secondary accounts, focusing primarily on students. This research employs quantitative methods to provide a systematic, factual, and accurate description of the phenomenon. Findings indicate that self-disclosure patterns among student respondents are generally consistent and relatively high. The study offers deeper insights into how individuals reveal themselves in interpersonal settings, showing a tendency to share positive information, maintain honesty, and be accurate in their disclosures. Additionally, the results highlight the importance of considering gender differences in self-disclosure research, as women tend to be more open in sharing than men.

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between hedonic lifestyle and self-control among university students using both quantitative and qualitative approaches. The quantitative component involved surveying 31 students with standardized scales measuring hedonic lifestyle and self-control. The qualitative aspect included in-depth interviews with some students to gain deeper insights into their behaviours and perceptions. Results from the quantitative analysis revealed a significant inverse correlation between hedonic lifestyle and self-control, indicating that higher engagement in hedonic activities is associated with lower self-control. Qualitative findings supported this, uncovering themes of impulsivity and short-term gratification impacting academic and personal goals. The study concluded that there is a mutually bound relationship between hedonic lifestyle and self-control, where each variable influence and is influenced by the other. These results suggest the need for strategies to help students develop better self-regulation skills while managing a hedonic lifestyle. Further research should explore these dynamics over time to understand causality and long-term effects.

Abstract

Community or social groups in schools are one way for adolescents to find their identity in the school environment. This study aims to uncover and understand the motives that drive adolescents to choose to join a community at school. The study used a qualitative approach with an in-depth interview method with three student members of the community representing grades 10, 11, and 12. The results showed that the main motives for adolescents to join the community were the need for a sense of belonging, search for identity, the influence of seniors and traditions, and the need for emotional support. The community functions as a place to fulfill social-emotional needs and a coping mechanism in dealing with academic and social pressures. This study provides important implications for schools and counselors in developing student development programs that accommodate adolescents' needs for a positive community. Abstract

Conventional Western-oriented career guidance models are not aligned with the value systems and practices of Indonesia's indigenous communities, creating significant gaps in service delivery. This research employs qualitative methodology with an ethnographic approach. This ethnographic study explores the career development practices of the community to develop a culturally sensitive career guidance framework. A qualitative ethnographic approach was employed within the community. Four key participants from communitywere purposively selected. Data were collected through participant observation and in-depth interviews using a validated interview guide with a reliability score of 0, 89. Thematic analysis was conducted using NVivo, with member validation, yielding an inter-coder reliability of over 85%. Six interconnected themes were identified: pagawean adat as cultural preservation; family influence in intergenerational knowledge transmission; wangsit and spirituality in career decisions; traditional educational systems; success concepts based on kasuksesan adat; tradition-modernity dilemmas. Baduy career development operates through a holistic cultural framework that integrates spirituality, communal responsibility, and environmental preservation, challenging individualistic Western models. There is an urgent need to decolonize career development theories and create guidance models grounded in indigenous values for culturally responsive practice.

Abstract

The large number of students who have not been able to decide what career choices they will pursue after graduating from university, as well as the high number of unemployed graduates, one of which is the background of their low career maturity. One of the factors that influence career maturity is locus of control. Locus of control describes how far the individual views his confidence in the efforts he makes to achieve a career. This study aims to describe the relationship between locus of control and career maturity in college students. This study uses a systematic literature review method with PRISMA guidelines. The data used is a collection of articles about locus of control and career maturity in students. The data comes from searching articles on the Google Scholar and Crossref databases with the help of the Publish or Perish (POP) application. The article search strategy uses keywords according to topics from the last 10 years, namely 2012-2022. The articles were screened and an assessment of the feasibility of the journal was carried out according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. This study uses 6 main articles. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between internal locus of control and career maturity in college students. That is, the higher the student's internal locus of control, the higher the career maturity of the student.

Abstract

Abstract. Radicalism as the root of terrorism poses a serious threat to the educational environment since it primarily targets young generations who are still in the process of identity formation. This phenomenon highlights the urgency for schools to serve as the primary defense in preventing the spread of radical ideologies. Guidance and Counseling (GC) teachers hold a strategic role in providing services that instill tolerance, diversity, and positive life skills in students. This study aims to analyze the strategies implemented by GC teachers in preventing radicalism in educational settings using a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with GC teachers and direct observations of radicalism prevention practices in schools. The findings reveal that radicalism is understood as a mindset rooted in intolerance, developing into exclusive attitudes, and potentially culminating in violent actions. GC teachers identified students exposed to radical ideologies through tendencies such as extreme beliefs, intolerance toward differences, and the influence of family and environmental factors. The strategies applied include early detection through non-test assessments, classical guidance services emphasizing tolerance values, student capacity strengthening through information sharing and inter-class discussions, and individual counseling services that instill moderate religious and national values. The challenges faced involve limited teacher knowledge, student resistance to counseling services, lack of family support, and the negative influence of social media and peer environments. The conclusion of this study emphasizes that preventing radicalism in schools requires synergy among GC teachers, families, and communities to create a safe, tolerant, and resilient educational environment against radical ideologies.
