Abstract

Analytical geometry is a crucial component of the curriculum for prospective mathematics teacher education, as it serves as a foundational skill for teaching in schools. However, recent studies have revealed that some students possess a limited comprehension of analytical geometry. In the current era, characterized by rapid technological advancement, there is an imperative for innovation in the pedagogy of analytical geometry, including the integration of ICT. This study aims to describe ICT-assisted analytical geometry learning and learning outcomes in the form of students' mathematical understanding achievements. The present study employs a mixed methods approach, integrating a sequential explanatory design. The quantitative research design employed is descriptive in nature, as it aims to articulate the students' mathematical understanding. To enhance the comprehension of the quantitative findings, qualitative research was conducted employing a holistic case study design, enabling a more profound examination of the data by incorporating students' perspectives and interpretations. The population of this study comprised second-semester prospective teacher students in classes A and B who had enrolled in analytical geometry courses at a university in Bandung City, Indonesia. The sample of this study was selected by purposive sampling, namely class A with a total of 40 students (12 males and 28 females). The study's findings suggest that the incorporation of ICT, specifically GeoGebra software and e-learning, enhances the effectiveness of learning analytical geometry, particularly the plane geometry topic. This enhancement is evident in the students' achievement in terms of mathematical understanding, which is satisfactory. Consequently, it is imperative to extend the application of ICT to other subjects or instructional segments.    Keywords: ICT, geogebra, analytical geometry.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to describe the process of developing educational multimedia, specifically the “Zuma Function” game, using Scratch programming for mathematics learning on the topic of relations and functions. Methods: The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach, following the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The study involved 35 mathematics education students from a university in West Java and 6 eighth-grade students from a junior high school in Bandung, Indonesia. Data were collected using various instruments, including questionnaires, tests, interviews, and documentation. Findings: The developed learning media was evaluated by experts, receiving a material expert test score of 81%, and a learning media expert test score of 83%, both categorized as feasible. The functionality test, measured through User Acceptance Testing, yielded an average score of 85.1%, indicating a very feasible category, while the effectiveness test showed a 30.5% improvement in students’ conceptual understanding, with scores rising from 64.83 to 95.33. Conclusion: Based on the study’s findings, the Scratch-based multimedia for teaching relations and functions in mathematics was successfully developed using the ADDIE model. Positive user feedback and significant improvements in student test scores suggest that this multimedia is effective in enhancing students’ understanding of the concept, though there are areas that could be further refined.        Keywords: learning media, mathematics game, function, Scratch, ADDIE.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v25i3.pp1410-1427

Abstract

This study aims to develop and evaluate the Super Geo-Bros game, an educational tool designed to assist ninth-grade students in understanding geometric transformations through interactive, Scratch-based technology. Following the ADDIE model, the research was conducted in five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The game allows students to interact with geometric shapes and perform transformations such as translation, rotation, reflection, and dilatation. Validation tests involving media and content experts demonstrated that the game is valid, practical, and effective, with a significant increase in students’ learning outcomes. The gain score of 0.71 indicates a high level of improvement, showing that this game enhances engagement and facilitates better comprehension of abstract mathematical concepts.        Keywords: educational game, geometric transformation, mathematics learning, scratch, learning media.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v25i2.pp792-802

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the role of Scratch multimedia in enhancing junior high school students' mathematical connection skills related to the topic of exponents. This study employed a mixed-methods design, integrating quantitative and qualitative approaches, with 25 ninth-grade students as participants. Six students were purposively selected for in-depth interviews. Quantitative data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests and analyzed using paired-samples t-tests. In contrast, qualitative data were obtained from observation and interview results, and were analyzed thematically to identify the main themes during the learning process. Quantitatively, the study's results showed a significant increase in each indicator of mathematical connection skills. The indicator of connections between mathematical ideas (M post-test = 78.40, M pre-test = 45.20, t(24) = 7.43, p = 0.002) with an N-Gain value of 61% showed a fairly good increase. The connection indicator between mathematical representations (M post-test = 93.32, M pre-test = 58.40, t(24) = 4.89, p < 0.001) with an N-Gain value of 84% demonstrated a significant improvement. The connection indicator of mathematics with real-life problems (M post-test = 74.40, M pre-test = 24.20, t(24) = 6.18, p < 0.001) showed a significant improvement, with an N-Gain value of 61%, indicating a strong connection. Qualitatively, the study's results revealed three main themes: the use of Scratch multimedia in exponential learning enhances students' understanding of the material, creates a fun learning experience, and strengthens understanding through games. This study shows a positive impact of Scratch multimedia on improving students' mathematical connection abilities. Future research can utilize longitudinal studies to determine whether learning improvements are sustained in the long term.    Keywords: mathematical connection, mathematics learning, scratch multimedia.
