Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the characteristics and to estimate the cost of road accidents in Banyumas, Indonesia, and in Vietnam. The accident cost in Indonesia consists of direct and indirect costs, while the accident cost in Vietnam consists of tangible and intangible costs. The results show that the characteristics ofroad accidents in Indonesia are similar to those in Vietnam, with most accidents were caused by men. In addition, the road accident cost in Indonesia is much higher that that of Vietnam. Keywords: accident cost, direct and indirect costs, tangible and intangible costs

Abstract

Traffic congestion is a situation when the actual speed of the vehicle is under the free flow speed. This situation resulted in losses for road users, which can be an increase in fuel consumption, time wasted, and environmental pollution. The purpose of this study is to develop a model for the congestion charge for private car users for a variety of time values and the actual vehicle speed in the corridor of Jalan Malioboro, Yogyakarta. Congestion charge is the difference between the generalized transportation cost on the free flow speed condition and the generalized transportation cost on the actual speed condition. The generalized transportation cost consists of vehicle operating costs, travel time costs, and the pollution cost. This study found that the cost of congestion for private car users in Malioboro, Yogyakarta, for respondents with a trip to the Malioboro as a destination is IDR 4,009.15 / trip and for through traffic respondents is IDR 4,224.29/trip. Moreover, the congestion cost model for private car users in Malioboro corridor is an exponential function. Keywords: congestion cost, generalized cost, actual speed, free flow speedAbstrak

Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the elasticity of factors which influence the demand of public transport in London and Yogyakarta, based on the study of Paulley et al (2006) and the study of Sugiyanto (2007). The mode choice model between private cars and public transport (city bus) was developed based on users preferences as indicated by travel attributes. Five travel attributes were assumed to have high influences toward mode choice behavior, i.e; travel cost, congestion charge, travel time, headway of public transport (city bus), and walking time to the bus stop. The logit binomial model was used to formulate the individual behavior based on the stated preference data obtained from private car users in the Malioboro corridor. Themode choice model between private cars and city bus was developed based on 520 options from 65 respondents who used private cars to go to Malioboro to be as through traffic. Based on the direct and cross elasticity, the travel cost attribute has the highest elasticity value. Travel cost is the most sensitive attributewhich influences the election probability of private cars and city bus. The factors which influence the demand of public transport in London are fares, quality of service, income, and car ownership. Keywords: mode choice, stated preference, and elasticity

Abstract

Traffic congestion on the road occurred when travel demand exceeds the capacity of the road. This study aims to estimate and develop a model of congestion costs for private car users in the area of Jalan Malioboro, Yogyakarta, with a length of 1.414 km. The study was limited to the congestion charge for private car users only. The results show that the generalized cost of private car transportation on the actual conditions in the Malioboro area, Yogyakarta, is Rp. 5,513.77 per trip and on the conditions of free flow speed is Rp. 2,598.78 per trip, so that the congestion charge for private car users in this region is Rp. 2,914.99 per trip. The form of congestion charge model for private car users in the area of Malioboro, Yogyakarta, is an exponential function, with the lower the actual traffic speed, the greater the cost of traffic congestion caused. Keywords: congestion charge, private car, the combined cost of transportation, vehicle operating costs, the cost of travel time.

Abstract

Traffic congestion can be a serious problem in major cities around the world, especially in centrall urban area. Congestion results not only in time lost while sitting in traffic jams but also constitutes a disruption to company supply chains and the general flow of commerce. Idling vehicles contribute as well to air pollution which reduces the quality of health. The aim of this paper is to formulate mode choice model between privatepassenger cars and TransJogja Bus service as a result of the application of a congestion cost in a congested road along the region of Malioboro, Yogyakarta. The amount of the congestion cost represents the difference between perceived and actual generalized cost in traffic jam condition. In this study the congestion cost is only applied to the private passenger cars, as they are expected to shift to TransJogja Bus and, therefore, thepublic transport usage will increas. The mode choice model was developed based on users preferences of service as indicated by travel attributes. The logit binomial model was used to formulate the individual behavior based on stated preference data from passenger car users in Malioboro, Yogyakarta. The modelpredicts the probability of choosing a particular mode of transportation. The result show that five travel attributes assumed to have high influences toward mode choice behavior. These attributes are travel cost, congestion cost, travel time, parking cost, and walking time to the bus stop of TransJogja. Keywords: binomial logit model, congestion cost, stated preference, traffic congestion, TransJogja

Abstract

Road safety is a complicated scientific field of transport research due to the random nature of accident occurrence. Traffic accidents impose serious problems to society in terms of medical costs, economic costs (productivity losts), property damage costs, and human costs. Traffic accidents are increasing and still become the main problem of road transport in Indonesia. One effort to improve transportation safety is by determining and handling the black spot locations. The method that used to identify black spot locations is the frequency-crash method. The aim of this research is to identify black spot locations using Upper Control Limit (UCL) method. The study location is in Purbalingga, Central Java, Indonesia. Database of traffic accidents from 1 January 2010 to 31 December 2015 were obtained from Purbalingga Police. Using the equivalent accident number for death victims or fatality is 10, a severe injury is 5, a minor injury is 1, and property damaged only is 1. Seven roads have accident number value greater than the upper control limit value and identified as a black spot location. Black spot location in Purbalingga regency are Jalan Raya Bayeman, Tlahab Lor; Jalan Raya turut Desa Penolih, Jalan Raya turut Desa Bobotsari, Jalan Raya turut Desa Bojongsari, Jalan Raya turut Desa Jetis, Jalan Raya turut Desa Kembangan, and Jalan Raya turut Desa Panican.
