Abstract

This study aims to measure the motivation level of postpartum mothers in exclusive breastfeeding using the Motivation For Health Behavior Scale (MHBS), analyze the relationship between sociodemographic factors and motivation, and assess the relationship between motivation level and the sustainability of exclusive breastfeeding. A cross-sectional research design was used involving 228 postpartum mothers in Tangerang City and Regency selected through purposive sampling. Data collection utilized the MHBS instrument consisting of three dimensions: autonomous motivation, controlled motivation, and amotivation. The results showed that the majority of respondents (58.3%) had high motivation levels, with 65.8% having high autonomous motivation. Statistical analysis revealed significant relationships between education level and autonomous motivation (p=0.003), employment status and controlled motivation (p=0.021), and family support with all three motivation dimensions (p<0.05). Autonomous motivation had the strongest relationship with exclusive breastfeeding sustainability (OR=5.23; 95% CI: 3.12-8.75), followed by controlled motivation (OR=1.87; 95% CI: 1.09-3.21), while amotivation was negatively associated with exclusive breastfeeding (OR=0.31; 95% CI: 0.17-0.58). Mothers with high motivation were 4.18 times more likely to consistently provide exclusive breastfeeding. In conclusion, the motivation of postpartum mothers, especially autonomous motivation, plays an important role in the sustainability of exclusive breastfeeding. Interventions focusing on strengthening autonomous motivation through improved education and family support are needed to increase exclusive breastfeeding coverage. The use of MHBS as a motivation measurement instrument provides a more comprehensive approach in identifying determinants of exclusive breastfeeding.

Abstract

Decision making in contraceptive use is influenced by various psychological factors, including anxiety about the negative effects of contraception and individual personality characteristics. This study aims to analyze the effect of anxiety about the negative effects of contraception and the personality dimension of conscientiousness on decision making in contraceptive use in women of childbearing age. The method used in this study is multiple linear regression involving 120 respondents of childbearing age women. Variable measurements were carried out using the Decision Conflict Scale, Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), and the conscientiousness dimension of the Big Five Inventory (BFI). The results of the analysis showed that anxiety about the negative effects of contraception had a negative and significant effect on decision making (β = -0.520, p <0.001), while conscientiousness had a positive and significant effect on decision making (β = 0.763, p <0.001). The regression model has an Adjusted R² value of 0.378, which indicates that 37.8% of the variability in contraceptive use decisions can be explained by these two variables. These findings emphasize the importance of managing anxiety and increasing individual awareness in decision-making regarding contraception in order to improve reproductive well-being.

Abstract

Efforts to reduce maternal death rates rely on regular Antenatal Care (ANC) checks, but coverage is still not ideal, especially in places with restricted access. We want to learn more about pregnant women's motivations for getting annual cervical screenings (ANC) and how those motivations relate to sociodemographic variables and compliance rates in this research. The study used a cross-sectional design and a selective sample strategy to choose 128 pregnant women from Bogor Regency. The Motivation for Health Behavior Scale (MHBS), a reliable and effective tool for measuring motivation, was used to assess the following: autonomous motivation, regulated motivation, and amotivation. In terms of autonomous motivation, 54.7% of respondents were very motivated and 68.0% were very unmotivated, according to the results. A substantial association between education level and autonomous motivation was found by correlational analysis (r=0.624, p<0.01), and a high correlation between family support and autonomous motivation was also found (r=0.712, p<0.001). With 82.9% of respondents in this group achieving the suggested visit requirements, there was a significant association between high autonomous motivation and ANC compliance (χ²=18.762, p<0.001). Personalized intervention approaches based on sociodemographic characteristics and dominant motivation dimensions should ideally be the focus of strategies to improve ANC compliance. It is important to consider the involvement of family support systems as catalysts for preventive health behavior change.

Abstract

Systematic literature review to analyze the relationship BETWEEN history of infectious diseases AND stunting in toddlers based on the latest scientific evidence. The research methodology used the PRISMA 2020 approach with a systematic search of electronic databases including PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, CINAHL, and Google Scholar for the period 2020-2024. Of the 309 articles identified, 15 articles met the inclusion criteria for the final analysis. The synthesis results showed that children with a history of recurrent infections were at 2.8-3.2 times higher risk of stunting than children without a history of infection. The most influential infections include diarrhea and acute respiratory infections (ARI). The underlying biological mechanisms involve malabsorption of nutrients, increased metabolic needs, and decreased food intake. Comprehensive infection prevention and control programs have been shown to reduce the prevalence of stunting by up to 15% within two years. Factors that influence this relationship include socioeconomic status, access to health services, and nutritional status. This review underlines the importance of integrating infection control programs into stunting prevention strategies.

Abstract

Anemia in pregnancy is commonly caused by malnutrition, leading to a decrease in hemoglobin (Hb) levels. Maternal nutritional status is a key indicator of adequate nutrient intake and plays a crucial role in preventing anemia. Poor nutritional status may impair erythropoiesis or result in dysfunctional red blood cells. Nutritional status in pregnant women can be assessed using Body Mass Index (BMI) and Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC), along with hemoglobin level measurement. This study aims to analyze the association between BMI and MUAC with hemoglobin (Hb) levels in pregnant women. A quantitative cross-sectional study desain was employed. Secondary data were obtained from hemoglobin examinations conducted in 2024. The study used total sampling technique, including101 pregnant women who underwent Hb Testting. Bivariate analysis was performed to examine the relationship between BMI, MUAC and Hb levels. The results showed no significant association between BMI and Hb levels (p=0.282), while a significant association wa found between MUAC and Hb levels (p=0.027). In conclution, BMI is not associated with Hb levels, whereas MUAC is significantly related to Hb levels in pregnant women.

Abstract

Health education is an important effort to enhance community knowledge, particularly among mothers, regarding the growth and development of preschool children. Maternal knowledge is influenced by factors such as education, access to information, socio-cultural and environmental conditions, experience, and age. Lack of knowledge may result in inadequate stimulation, which can hinder a child’s optimal development. One effective and practical educational medium to improve maternal understanding is a booklet, as it delivers information clearly, concisely, and can be reviewed repeatedly. This study aimed to determine the effect of booklet media on maternal knowledge regarding preschool children’s growth and development. The research used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, applying a one-group pre-test and post-test method. The population consisted of 77 mothers at RA/TK Islam Nurul Iman, with 43 respondents selected through convenience sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire administered before and after the health education intervention. The results showed that the average knowledge score before the intervention was 14.58, which increased to 17.56 after the intervention, with a mean difference of 2.977. Statistical analysis produced a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05), indicating a significant effect of booklet media on maternal knowledge improvement. The study concludes that booklet media is an effective, low-cost, and practical tool for health education, helping mothers and families play an active role in supporting optimal child growth and development while serving as an alternative medium for health workers in providing educational interventions.

Abstract

Inadequate breast milk production remains a significant challenge in achieving exclusive breastfeeding success during the postpartum period. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of oxytocin massage intervention on breast milk quantity among postpartum mothers at Hospital X. A quasi-experimental design with one-group pretest-posttest approach was employed, involving 17 postpartum mothers who met the inclusion criteria. Data collection utilized demographic questionnaires and measuring instruments to assess milk volume before and after the intervention. Oxytocin massage was performed using back massage technique for 30-60 minutes duration. Statistical analysis employed Wilcoxon signed-rank test due to non-normal data distribution. Results demonstrated significant improvement in milk volume from mean 12.95 ml (pretest) to 50.59 ml (posttest) with p-value 0.000 (p<0.05), indicating statistical significance. The intervention showed substantial effectiveness with approximately 291% increase from baseline condition. These findings suggest that oxytocin massage represents an effective non-pharmacological modality for optimizing lactogenesis through neurohormonal stimulation mechanisms, supporting milk ejection reflex enhancement in postpartum mothers.
