Abstract

Background. Sakub sheep is a local sheep in Brebes Regency, Central Java, that has the potential as a genetic resource because it has a jumbo body. To know the body weight, weighing must be done. However, in buying and selling transactions, body weight can be estimated using livestock body measurements. Livestock body morphometrics such as body length, chest circumference, and shoulder height can be used to estimate livestock body weight. The study aimed to determine whether there is a relationship between body morphometric measures (body length, chest circumference, and shoulder height) and body weight in male sakub sheep. By studying this relationship, we can obtain useful information in optimizing ram production and can assist in determining appropriate management and nutrition strategies to increase ram body weight. Materials and Methods. Sheep were used in several age groups (12 months, 18 months, 24 months, and 36 months). The tools used in this study were hanging scales, measuring tapes, and stationery. Results. Based on the study's results, it can be seen that the relationship between body morphometrics (body length, chest circumference, and shoulder height) and body weight of male sakub sheep in various age groups has differences in the level of correlation. In the 12-month age group, the shoulder height variable had a very strong correlation (0.95) with body weight, while body length had a moderate correlation (0.55) and chest circumference had a low correlation (0.33). In the 18-month age group, the chest circumference variable had a very strong correlation (0.89) with body weight, while body length and shoulder height had strong correlations of 0.79 and 0.74, respectively. At 24 months of age, body length had a very strong correlation with body weight (0.99), while shoulder height had a moderate correlation (0.59) and chest circumference had a low correlation (0.29). In the 36-month age group, body length had a very strong correlation with body weight at 0.99, shoulder height had a strong correlation at 0.72, while the chest circumference variable had a low correlation (0.52). Conclusion. Based on the research and discussion that has been done, it can be concluded that there is a relationship between body morphometrics (body length, chest circumference, and shoulder height) to the body weight of male sakub sheep.

Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui produksi susu sapi perah dan dampak luka ambing yang dihasilkan dengan metode pemerahan susu sistem mesin perah dan sistem robotik di perusahaan Wahei Co., Ltd, Betsukai, Hokkaido, Jepang. Penelitian menggunakan 25 ekor sapi Friesian Holstein yang dialokasikan kedalam 2 (dua) kelompok, pertama 10 ekor diperah dengan mesin perah, kedua 15 ekor diperah dengan sistem robotik. Semua sapi percobaan diberi makanan basah hijauan dan konsentrat yang sama masing-masing sebanyak 40 kg dan 13 kg per ekor per hari. Metode yang digunakan adalah survei dengan mengambil data primer berupa produksi susu dan tingkat luka ambing, serta data sekunder berupa catatan penunjang yang ada di Perusahaan Wahei Co., Ltd. Hasil analisis statistik menunjukkan bahwa produksi susu sangat nyata (P<0.01) lebih tinggi pada sistem robotik dibandingkan dengan pemerahan menggunakan mesin perah. Demikian pula tingkat luka ambing lebih sedikit (13%) pada sistem robotik dibandingkan pada pemerahan dengan mesin perah (50%). Disimpulkan bahwa pemerahan sistem robotik lebih baik dibandingkan dengan sistem mesin perah.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effects of the interaction of the addition of vitamin C, the type of diluent, and the duration of storage at 5°C on the quality and fertility of Rooster Kampung spermatozoa and the fertile period of Red Kedu hen eggs. Semen was collected from 10 roosters subjected to vitamin C level treatment (0 mg, 0.1 mg, 0.2 mg, or 0.3 mg), two diluent types (lactated Ringer (RL) and skim milk + 50 mM glucose), and storage durations (0 hours, 3 hours, 6 hours, or 9 hours). The sperm samples meeting the quality standards were inseminated into 64 Red Kedu hens. Phase 1 of the study used a factorial randomised design (2´4´4) followed by variance analysis and orthogonal polynomial testing. Phase 2 applied the eight best result treatments from phase 1 via a completely randomised design with Tukey’s test for post hoc analysis. The results revealed a highly significant interaction effect (P<0,01) between vitamin C level and diluent type on motility, plasma membrane integrity (IPM), and sperm abnormality. The interaction effect of vitamin C level and storage duration had a very significant effect (P<0.01) on motility, IPM, and viability. The interaction effect of diluent type and storage duration significantly affected (P<0.01) motility and IPM. However, no significant effect (P>0.05) among all three variables was observed on fertility or the fertile period. In summary, the addition of 0.3 mg of vitamin C, lactated Ringer’s diluent, and 6 hours of storage at 5°C maintained sperm quality and resulted in 51.78±37.64 fertility and a fertile period of 15 days in Red Kedu hens.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui konsentrasi dan viabilitas spermatozoa X hasil separasi seks pada kambing Saanen. Materi penelitian yang digunakan yaitu 1 ekor pejantan kambing Saanen berumur 2 tahun. Rancangan penelitian yang digunakan yaitu Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) pola faktorial 2x3 yang terdiri dari 2 faktor yaitu faktor gradien (g₁ 30:75, g₂ 45:90) dan lama inkubasi (t₁=30, t₂=45, dan t₃ 60). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan konsentrasi dengan gradien 30:75 memiliki hasil yang optimal yaitu sebesar 1333,2±190,84. dengan lama inkubasi 60 menit. Viabilitas dengan gradien 35:70 memiliki hasil yang optimal yaitu 67,77±12,96 dengan lama inkubasi 45 menit. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa faktor gradien berpengaruh sangat nyata atau (P<0,01) terhadap konsentrasi spermatozoa X dan berpengaruh sangat nyata atau (P<0,01) terhadap viabilitas spermatozoa X dan lama inkubasi berpengaruh sangat nyata atau (P<0,01) terhadap viabilitas spermatozoa X, tidak terdapat interaksi atau (P>0,01) antara gradien dan lama inkubasi terhadap viabilitas dan konsentrasi spermatozoa X. Disimpulkan bahwa untuk memperoleh konsentrasi dan viabilitas spermatozoa X yang tinggi, sebaiknya dilakukan pemisahan dengan konsentrasi gradien percoll g₁ 30:75 dengan lama inkubasi t₂=45 sampai t₃=60 menit.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh medium Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) dan lama inkubasi yang berbeda terhadap kualitas spermatozoa Y domba Sakub. Penelitian dirancang menggunakan pola factorial 2x3 dengan rancangan dasar acak kelompok (RAK). Faktor I gradien BSA (G) terdiri dari dua tingat konsentrasi dua level (g1=4:8% dan g2=5:10%) dan faktor II lama inkubasi (T) terdiri dari level (t1=30, t2=40, dan t3=60 menit). Variabel yang diamati yaitu motilitas, abnormalitas, konsentrasi dan viabilitas spermatozoa Y. Hasil analisis statistik menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada interaksi antara gradien BSA dan lama inkubasi (P>0,05) terhadap kualitas spermatozoa. Namun gradien BSA berpengaruh sangat nyata (P<0,01) dan lama inkubasi berpengaruh nyata (P<0,05) terhadap kualitas spermatozoa Y domba Sakub. Nilai motilitas tertinggi pada t1 (73,67 ± 1,41%), abnormalitas terendah pada t1 (9,92 ± 1,06%), konsentrasi tertinggi pada g2 (1196,67 x 106), dan viabilitas tertinggi pada t1 (73,5 ± 1,00 %). Disimpulkan bahwa untuk memperoleh kualitas spermatozoa Y yang tinggi sebaiknya digunakan medium BSA dengan konsentrasi 5-10% (g2) dan lama inkubasi 30 menit (t1) dan masih memenuhi standar untuk pelaksanaan inseminasi Buatan (IB).

Abstract

Improving Dorper sheep meat production efficiency through sperm sex separation (sexing) technology using egg white gradients is an economical alternative, yet it is often hindered by the decline in post-freezing semen quality due to cold shock. This study was aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of combining egg white medium concentration gradients and incubation times on the quality of liquid and frozen-thawed semen. Using fresh semen from two Dorper rams (aged 24 months), this study employed a 2x3 Factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) with four replications. Treatments consisted of two gradient levels (15:30% and 20:35%) and three incubation times (30, 45 and 60 minutes). The obtaimed data were analyzed using Analysis of variane and continued with Duncan's multiple range test if there were significantly differences betrweem treatments. Results showed that incubation time significantly affected (P<0.05) motility, viability and concentration. Specifically, the 15:30% gradient with 45 minutes of incubation proved to be the most optimal, yielding 51.25% post-sexing motility and 53.88% viability. This superiority persisted through the post-thawing stage, where this treatment recorded the highest motility (12.50%) and viability (14.25%). However, frozen semen values were generally low. Conversely, 60-minute incubation significantly reduced quality due to metabolic exhaustion, while the 20:35% gradient had excessive viscosity that hindered sperm penetration, drastically lowering the final concentration to 4.75 x 10⁷ cells/mL. Although fluctuations occurred, abnormality rates across all treatments remained below the 20% threshold. It is concluded that freezing techniques require evaluation, using a 15:30% egg white gradient with 45 minutes of incubation at 37°C is the best protocol in this study recommended for Dorper sheep sex separation, as it maximally maintains membrane integrity and sperm survival in both liquid and frozen phases.
