Abstract

Dunia berkembang kian cepat seiring majunya teknologi informasi.

Safrina, D., Susanti, D., & Wijaya, N.R. (2023). Product development of parijoto fruit (Medinilla speciosa Blume) and its potential as a medicinal plant : review. In: Herlinda S et al. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-11 Tahun 2023, Palembang  21 Oktober 2023. (pp. 43–53).  Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).Parijoto (Medinilla speciosa Blume; heterotypic synonym of Medinilla eximia (Jack) Blume) is a shrub from the Melastomataceae family which is known as an ornamental plant and is not widely known as a medicinal plant. Parijoto fruit contains tannins, flavonoids, glycosides, saponins, and alkaloids. People traditionally use parijoto fruit to treat canker sores, diarrhea, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anticancer, male fertility, and antioxidants. Several research results state that the parijoto plant has medicinal plant potential as an anti-obesity, anti-hyperlipidemia, anticancer, antibacterial, antioxidant, increasing fertility, hepatoprotector, and immunomodulator. Parijoto fruit has enormous potential as a medicinal plant, but it has yet to be widely developed by the community. This review article aimed to inform the public about the enormous opportunities in developing research from cultivation to product formulation. Based on the review results, information was obtained that the development of processed products is still minimal, and most of it is still on a research scale. Parijoto fruit has the potential to be developed into food products, including syrup, dodol, and jelly candy. Parijoto fruit can also be developed as a cosmetic preparation, such as body lotion and sunscreen cream. Apart from that, this plant also has the potential to be developed as a food coloring. Products made from parijoto fruit still need to be improved and have yet to be utilized by the wider community, so the potential for developing parijoto fruit is still enormous.

Abstract

Stevia rebaudiana Bert. (Stevia) is used in the commercial and health industries because of its steviol glycosides (stevioside, rebaudioside A, rebaudioside C) and flavonoids. Polyploidy induction of stevia plants using oryzalin was held to increase the diversity and produce superior varieties. This research aims to obtain stevia diversity with different characteristics from its diploid. The Tawangmangu variety of stevia seedlings was experimentally designed using a completely random design. Nine combinations of oryzalin concentrations (1.5, 2.5, and 3.5μM) and immersion times (4, 6, and 8 hours) treatments were applied to 15 stevia seedlings each. Stevia without treatment was used as a control. Treatments were applied directly to the shoots on the second internode from the tip. Observations on target shoots included the number of survivors, morphological variables (height, number of internodes, internode length, leaf size, leaf thickness, stem diameter, and leaf color), stomata, and plant ploidy level. Data analysis on the number of live plants used frequency and descriptively. Morphological data consisting of plant height, number of shoots, number of internodes, internode length, leaf length, leaf width, leaf thickness, and stem diameter were analyzed using boxplot graphs and descriptive to describe the diversity of M1 stevia treatment results. Leaf color and stomata were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that up to 3.5μM concentrations of oryzalin and 6 hours of immersion time were safe to use as a mutation agent with above 67% survival rate. Various oryzalin treatments of Tawangmangu stevia varieties yielded polyploidy morphological growth indications in height, number of internodes, internode length, stem diameter, leaf size, leaf thickness, leaf color, stomata, and stem diameter. In addition, there are growth variations such as chimeras, rosettes, and leaf splitting. However, further flow cytometry tests showed that oryzalin concentration and immersion duration directly on the vegetative material did not produce polyploid stevia individuals.

Abstract

Understanding the urgency of the material and the main aspects of the essential concepts of science is very important in learning. This study aims to analyse the urgency of the material and the main aspects of the essential concept in learning Natural Sciences (IPA) in the Independent Curriculum at the junior high school level. The Independent Curriculum provides flexibility for educators in designing contextual learning that is relevant to the needs of students, so that the selection of essential materials becomes very crucial. This study uses quantitative descriptive analysis with a simple random sampling technique on science teachers in Mataram City. Data was collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire to measure the level of urgency of science materials and the essentiality of aspects of the learning process. The results showed that most of the science materials, such as "Substances and Their Changes", "Life Organization Systems", and "Energy and Its Changes" were categorized as very urgent, with an average score of 3.44. In addition, aspects of the science learning process, such as "science-based problem solving", "science project development", and "science literacy skills", were also considered very essential, with an average score of 3.40. However, there are two materials with a moderate level of urgency, namely "Electricity and Magnetism" and "Human Reproductive System". Meanwhile, only one aspect of learning is considered essential (not very essential), namely "application of science in everyday life". This finding indicates the importance of adjusting the curriculum and learning strategies to ensure optimal achievement of competencies. Recommendations are directed to curriculum developers and educators to focus on materials and aspects of learning that best support students' scientific literacy and 21st-century skills.
