Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi kemampuan produksi tanaman sorgum varietas lokal Rote sebagai pakan ternak ruminansia pada umur panen dan dosis urea yang berbeda. Penelitian dilaksanakan di rumah kaca Laboratorium Hijauan Makanan Ternak dan Pastura Fakultas Peternakan UGM selama 4 bulan dari tanggal 11 November 2011 hingga 27 Februari 2012. Penelitian ini dirancang dengan Rancangan Acak Lengkap pola faktorial dengan 2 faktor perlakuan yaitu umur panen (UP) sebagai faktor pertama (UP1= 50 hari, UP2 = 70 hari, dan UP3 = 90 hari) dan dosis pupuk urea (P0 = tanpa urea sebagai kontrol, P1 = 50 kg/ha, dan P2 = 100 kg/ha) sebagai faktor kedua. Kombinasi perlakuan ini diulang 4 kali. Variabel yang diamati adalah produksi bahan kering (BK), bahan organik (BO), dan protein kasar (PK) (g/polibag). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa produksi BK tertinggi terdapat pada perlakuan UP3P2 (107,27 g/polibag) dan berbeda sangat nyata (P<0,01) dengan UP3P1, UP3P0, UP2P2, UP2P1, UP2P0, UP1P2, UP1P1, dan UP1P0. Perlakuan UP3P2 dan UP3P1 menghasilkan produksi BO yang lebih tinggi yaitu 108,07 dan 84,70 g/polibag, dibandingkan dengan UP3P0, UP2P2, UP2P1, dan UP2P0. Produksi BO terendah terdapat pada kombinasi perlakuan UP1P0 (25,60 g/polibag) dan tidak berbeda nyata dengan UP1P2 (32,88 g/polibag) dan UP1P1 (28,70 g/polibag). Produksi PK tertinggi terdapat pada perlakuan UP2P2 (5,57 g/polibag) dan tidak berbeda nyata dengan UP3P2 (5,14 g/polibag) dan UP1P2 (5,03 g/polibag). Produksi PK berbeda dengan UP3P1, UP2P1 dan UP1P1. Produksi PK juga berbeda dengan UP1P0 dan UP2P0. Perlakuan UP3P0 merupakan kombinasi perlakuan yang menghasilkan produksi PK terendah yaitu 2,22 g/polibag. Disimpulkan bahwa tanaman sorgum yang dipanen pada umur 90 hari dengan dosis pupuk urea 100 kg/ha, menghasilkan hijauan terbaik sebagai pakan ruminansia.(Kata kunci: Sorgum, Umur panen, Dosis urea, Produksi bahan kering, Produksi protein kasar)

Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui efek pengurangan dan pemenuhan kembali jumlah pakan terhadap konsumsi dan kecernaan bahan pakan pada kambing Kacang dan Peranakan Etawah. Delapan ekor kambing jantan yang terdiri atas 4 ekor kambing Kacang dan 4 ekor kambing Peranakan Etawah digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Kedua jenis kambing tersebut diberikan perlakuan yang sama. Pertama, pakan dikurangi dengan pemberian bahan kering 1,7% berat badan untuk masing-masing ternak, kedua, ternak diberi pakan secara ad libitum. Variabel yang diamati adalah konsumsi dan kecernaan pakan. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan uji Sidik Ragam menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) pola faktorial 2x2. Uji Jarak Berganda Duncan digunakan untuk menguji perlakuan yang berbeda nyata. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa bangsa kambing dan volume pakan tidak saling berinteraksi untuk mempengaruhi kemampuan konsumsi dan kecernaan pakan. Perbedaan bangsa kambing tidak berpengaruh terhadap konsumsi bahan kering dan bahan organik, akan tetapi kambing Peranakan Etawah mampu mencerna bahan kering dan bahan organik secara lebih baik (P<0,05) daripada kambing Kacang. Perbedaan volume pakan mempengaruhi (P<0,01) konsumsi bahan kering, konsumsi bahan organik, kecernaan bahan kering, dan kecernaan bahan organik. Disimpulkan bahwa konsumsi dan kecernaan pada kedua bangsa kambing mempunyai pola yang sama, yang akan menurun saat pakan dikurangi dan meningkat secara signifikan ketika pakan diberikan ad libitum.(Kata kunci: Kambing, Pengurangan pakan, Konsumsi dan kecernaan)

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the production and nutrient content of calliandra (Caliandra calothyrsus) as a forage for ruminant in the different defoliation time. This research was conducted for 48 weeks (June 2012–June 2013) at Kaligesing forage feed area, Animal Science Department, Purworejo, Central Java. Design of the research was Completely Randomized Block Design. Soil slope was used as block. The research treatments were 6 (P1), 8 (P2), 12 (P3) and 16 (P4) weeks of cutting age. The grass of all treatment groups were cut together at the same day prior to experiment. Caliandra calothyrsus was cut at edible portion. Parameters measured were fresh forage, dry matter, organic matter and crude protein production and also nutrient content namely dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, extract ether, crude fiber, BETN and TDN. The result showed that the highest dry matter content was found in P3 (31.25%) and was different from P1 (26.51%) and P4 (28.12%). The highest crude protein content was found in P2 (21.10%) and was not different with P1 (21.09%) and P3 (19.20%), and the lowest crude protein was found inP4 (18.04%). The highest extract ether was at P3 (2.84%) and different from P1 (1.51%). The highest crude fiber was at P4 (22.56%) different with P1 (15.80%) and P2 (18.46%). Organic matter, BETN and TDN were not different among the different defoliation time. The highest fresh forage, dry matter, organic matter and crude protein production were at P4 and different (P<0.05) from P1, P2 and P3. The lowest dry matter was at P2. It is concluded that the best quality of grass was found in P3 group and the highest harvesting quantity was found in P4 group.(Key words: Calliandra calothyrsus, Cutting age, Nutrient content, Production)

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the quality of chemical and chlorophyll content of alfalfa plants with lenght of irradiation and dose of dolomite on the regosol soil. The experiment was conducted implemented in Greenhouse Laboratory Forage and Pasture Faculty of Animal Sciences University of Gadjah Mada, from May to September 2015. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) 3 x 3 factorial design with two factors treatments and four replications. The first factor is the dose of dolomite (D) with 3 treatment (D0 = without dolomite, D1 = dolomite 6 t/hectare or 90 g/polybag and D2= dolomite 12 t/hectare or 180 g/polybag). The second factor is the length of irradiation (C) with 3 treatments (C0 = irradiating 12 hours, C1 = irradiating 14 hours and C2 = irradiating 16 hours). Data were statistically analyzed using analysis of variance and significant results continued with Duncan test at 5% level.Parameters measured were the proximate analysis (dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, crude fiber, crude fat, ash) and alfalfa chlorophyll content. The results showed that there was no significant interaction effect between lenght of irradiation and dose of dolomite treatment to the dry matter content, organic matter, crude protein, crude fiber, crude fat, ash and alfalfa chlorophyll content. The treatment lenght of irradiation are significant (P<0,05) of the organic matter content and ash content of alfalfa. Dose of dolomite treatment was not significant on all parameters of the study. The results showed that the treatment and dosage of radiation are dolomite not significant on the production of plant fresh weight, dry weight of plants, dry matter content, organic matter, crude protein, crude fiber, crude fat, ash and content alfalfa chlorophyll. No interaction between treatment and dosage of radiation are dolomite which significantly affect production plant fresh weight, dry weight of plants, dry matter content, organic matter, crude protein, crude fiber, crude fat, ash and alfalfa chlorophyll content. (Keywords: Alfalfa, lenght of irradiation, dolomite,  regosol soil)

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and phosphate (P) fertilizer on the nutrient content, phosphate uptake and in vitro digestibility of alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.).The research was conducted at green house of Forage and Pastures Science Laboratory, Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Gadjah Mada. The experiment was arranged in Completely Randomized Design using 3x4 factorial patterns with four replications. The first factor was dosage of phosphate fertilizer SP 36 (0, 60, and 120 kg/ha). Second factor was the dosage of AMF (0, 0.8, 1.6, and 2.4kg/ha). The variable measured was nutrient contents (crude protein, dry matter, and organic matter), total P uptake and dry matter and organic matter in vitro digestibility. The results showed that the interaction of AMF and P fertilizer had no significant effect on crude protein and total P uptake, but highly significant effect on the parameters of dry matter, organic matter and dry matter and organic matter in vitro digestibility.

Abstract

This research was aimed to optimize concentration of phytohormone in callus induction and in vitro regeneration of three species of Brachiaria grass plant, namely Brachiaria brizantha, B. decumbens, and B. ruziziensis. Immature inflorescences were used as explant material. To induce callus, explants were inoculated into Murashige and Skoog (MS) basal medium supplemented with phytohormone combination of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D), dicamba and kinetin. Observation of callus induction included percentage of callus formation and callus morphology. The embryogenic calli were then transferred into regeneration media, i.e. MS basal medium supplemented with kinetin and 6-benzylaminopurin (BAP). The result showed that 4 mg/L 2,4-D + 0.2 mg/L kinetin showed highest callus induction in B. brizantha and B. decumbens, namely  76%  and 88% respectively. Whereas in B. ruziziensis, 3 mg/L 2,4-D + 0.2 mg/L kinetin showed highest callus induction, namely 86%. MS medium supplemented with 4 mg/L kinetin showed highest regeneration in all three grass species, namely 92.5% in both B. brizantha and B. ruziziensis, and 88.75% in B. decumbens.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of organic and inorganic fertilizers on the cultivation of tropical weed Synedrella nodiflora as forage. The study was conducted from May to July 2018. The treatments of the research were control (C), organic fertilizer (D) and organic fertilizer + urea (DU), with 3 replications that were arranged on experimental design with a completely randomized design, in a unidirectional pattern and continued with least significant different (LSD). Organic fertilizer dosage in this study was 5 tons/ha, while urea fertilizer was 350 kg/ha, with plant spacing was 45x60 cm. The observed parameters were plant height, forage production and chemical composition (5 weeks after planting). Plant height of C, D and DU were 41.59, 47,42, and 50.59 cm respectively. Forage production of dry matter after 5 weeks planting at C, D and DU were 1.69, 1.70 and 2.91ton/ha, with in vitro digestibility values ranging from 51.68 to 57.70% (IVDMD) and 51.71 to 61.98% (OMD) respectively. The chemical composition of native S. Nodiflora were 12.32% of dry matter (DM), 62.45% TDN count for cattle and 67.42% TDN count for sheep. Based on DM, The organic matter was 84.46%, crude protein 20,11%, crude fiber 13.26%, extract ether 7.77%, and nitrogen free extract 37.08%. The combination of organic fertilizer and urea increased the height and fresh and dry matter production S. nodiflora.
