Abstract

Sebuah bangunan sudah seharusnya dirancang agar dapat beradaptasi dengan teknologi masa kini serta memperhatikan keberlanjutannya di masa depan. Oleh karenanya konsep ekologis bisa menjadi jawaban yang terkait dengan prinsip utama konservasi energi. Melalui tulisan ini, peneliti ingin mengkaji lebih dalam mengenai penerapan arsitektur gabungan ekologis dan high-technology, yaitu arsitektur ecotechnology. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengobservasi efektivitas penerapan arsitektur ekologis dan high-technology yang diterapkan pada bangunan perpustakaan di Taiwan sebagai referensi penerapan arsitektur eco-technology. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dimana data penelitian dikumpulkan dengan menerapkan teknik observasi serta studi literatur. Obyek observasi adalah Taoyuan Public Library Longgang Branch dan National Taipei University Library. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah penerapan prinsip arsitektur eco-technology yaitu bangunan dapat merespon iklim setempat ditandai dengan orientasi bangunan tidak menghadap timur dan barat; meminimalisir penggunaan energi dengan adanya panel surya; menggunakan material ramah lingkungan seperti kayu dan wood wool cement board; menggunakan teknologi tepat guna pada penggunaan panel surya yang mengurangi biaya listrik; pemaparan bagian dalam bangunan dengan menunjukkan struktur dan tangga di luar bangunan; memberikan pemahaman konsep konstruksi kepada setiap orang; transparansi, pelapisan, serta pergerakan bangunan yang terlihat dari luar; pemberian warna cerah dan merata; penggunaan material baja; dan memiliki desain yang optimis terhadap perkembangan zaman di masa depan.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------A building should be designed to adapt to today's technology and pay attention to its sustainability in the future. Therefore the ecological concept can be an answer related to the main principle of energy conservation. Through this paper, researchers wish to examine the application of a combined ecological and high-technology architecture, namely eco-technology architecture. This study aims to observe the effectiveness of the ecologic application and high-technology architecture applied to library buildings in Taiwan as a reference for the application of eco-technology architecture. This study uses a qualitative method where research data is collected by applying observation techniques and literature studies. The objects of observation are the Taoyuan Public Library Longgang Branch and the National Taipei University Library. The results of this study are the application of eco-technology architectural principles, namely that buildings can respond to the local climate, marked by the orientation of the building not facing east and west; minimize energy use with solar panels; using environmentally friendly materials such as wood and wood wool cement board; using appropriate technology in the use of solar panels that reduce electricity costs; exposure of the inside of the building by showing structures and stairs outside the building; provide an understanding of construction concepts to everyone; transparency, layering, as well as the visible movement of the building from the outside; giving bright and even color; use of steel materials; and has an optimistic design for future developments.

Abstract

Permasalahan utama dalam pembangunan rumah bagi masyarakat berpenghasilan rendah adalah kenyamanan termal dan efisiensi energi. Peningkatan suhu akibat perubahan iklim semakin memperburuk kondisi hunian yang tidak memiliki akses terhadap sistem pendinginan buatan yang efisien. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk merancang hunian terjangkau dengan menerapkan strategi pendinginan pasif sebagai solusi untuk meningkatkan kenyamanan termal tanpa meningkatkan konsumsi energi. Studi kasus dilakukan di Sei Beduk, Batam, bekerja sama dengan Habitat for Humanity Indonesia dan Universitas Internasional Batam. Metode yang digunakan mencakup studi literatur, analisis lokasi, perancangan desain, serta evaluasi berdasarkan masukan komunitas setempat. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa penerapan elemen pendinginan pasif seperti ventilasi silang, penggunaan kisi-kisi, material dengan massa termal tinggi, serta optimalisasi orientasi bangunan dapat secara signifikan meningkatkan kenyamanan termal tanpa ketergantungan pada pendinginan buatan.

Abstract

Kota Batam merupakan bagian dari Kepulauan Riau, Indonesia yang memiliki warisan budaya beragam. Salah satunya terdapat tarian Melayu, atraksi budaya, pameran terkait peninggalan budaya Melayu, dan aktivitas budaya modern lainnya. Aktivitas publik memiliki peran penting dalam membentuk budaya, memberikan hiburan, membangun komunitas, dan mendorong partisipasi warga dalam berbagai aspek kehidupan social. Dalam hal ini, kegiatan atraksi dan pameran di Kota Batam juga telah berbaur dari budaya lokal dan modern. Wadah dalam penyelenggaraan kegiatan acara pameran dan kegiatan pementasan di Kota Batam salah satunya sering dilaksanakan di area Atrium Mall dengan kapasitas serta jenis kegiatan yang dibatasi. Sehingga, wadah khusus untuk pusat pameran sebagai fasilitas budaya lokal dan modern kurang memadai. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang pusat pameran pada kawasan pesisir berkelanjutan menggunakan pertimbangkan green architecture dengan budaya popular dalam exhibition dan convention center di Kota Batam. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif dan pengumpulan data berupa observasi lapangan. Selain itu, juga menggunakan data skunder dan primer melalui interprestasi visual. Hasil dari penelitian ini merupakan perancangan konsep desain pada exhibition dan convention center di kawasan pesisir Kota Batam yang mendukung green architecture dengan adanya area kapal Jong dan open space yang dijadikan area budaya popular. Hasil rancangan fasad meliputi vertical green dan secondary skin pada bangunan utama dan pendukung lainnya. Seluruh atap dirancang sebagai green rooftop untuk mengurangi panas dan menyerap air hujan. Penggunaan low emissivity glass di seluruh bangunan mengurangi panas masuk, sementara panel surya dipasang di atap utama untuk energi terbarukan.

Abstract

In response to the pressing issues of environmental degradation due to uncontrolled urbanization, leading to alarming greenhouse gas emissions as well as the consequential rise in sea levels that is caused by the extensive loss of ice, this article explores the solution to coastal areas that are prone to flood which require a re-evaluation to accommodate growing populations. The article proposes floating architecture as the solution to this issue. Floating architecture seamlessly unites with the water bodies. This paradigm shift aims to tackle limited land availability, urbanization pressure, and rising sea levels by adapting to water levels. Floating architecture allows the ability for cities to expand to the waters when the land is scarce. Floating architecture also serves as attractions creating unique experiences and enhancing the communities surrounding. This study uses qualitative methodology followed by a descriptive approach to analyze completed and prospective projects to obtain insight into floating structure and design considerations. Results show that integrating sustainable design with floating architecture is much more cost-effective, sustainable, efficient, mobility, and flexible than land reclamation.

Abstract

Public space is a crucial element in urban design, especially in coastal settlements, because it acts as a main factor in controlling development and creating a balance between land development and the social needs of the community. Rapid urbanization in Batam causes environmental degradation and unplanned changes in land use, limiting public access to public spaces. This research aims to identify and analyze how public space can be used effectively as an instrument to control sustainable development in Tanjung Uma. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods to analyze the role of public space in managing city growth and maintaining socio-economic balance and environmental sustainability in Kampung Tua Tanjung Uma, Batam. The research results show that the main challenges are limited accessibility, decreased environmental quality, and minimal public space facilities. Strategies for revitalizing public spaces, increasing accessibility and optimizing spatial planning are proposed to support sustainable development and improve community welfare, by involving local communities in managing public spaces.

Abstract

Urbanisasi yang berkembang pesat telah menjadi isu utama dalam peningkatan konsumsi energi di wilayah perkotaan. Sebagian besar rumah-rumah di zona permukimam pada zaman kini juga dikonstruksi melekat satu sama lain, menyebabkan ventilasi udara alami bekerja tidak optimal dan mengharuskan para penghuni untuk menggunakan alat pengontrol termal untuk mencapai kenyamanan termal mereka. Dengan menggunakan metode eksperimen kuantitatif melalui simulasi digital, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki apabila bentukan rumah panggung seperti Rumah Limas Potong mampu mencapai kenyamanan termal untuk penggunaannya di masa depan. Hasil simulasi menunjukkan bahwa rumah panggung mustahil untuk meraih kenyamanan termal dengan iklim tropis terkini. Perlu dilakukan lagi eksperimen waktu-nyata pada rumah-rumah panggung dengan atau tanpa sistem pendinginan pasif untuk hasil dan akurasi yang lebih baik dalam meraih permukiman yang hemat energi.

Abstract

Marina City, initially developed as an integrated tourism complex, has declined into a dead zone due to land-use changes and poor management, causing economic decline, loss of Malay cultural identity, and environmental degradation. This study aims to formulate a revitalization strategy through coastal public space design that integrates cultural values, maritime architecture, and sustainable tourism principles. The research employed community preference surveys, literature review, and site analysis to generate a contextually adaptive design framework. Results indicate that 67% of respondents favored a Modern Vernacular approach, realized through the Solmera Obelia concept, which combines Malay cultural identity with modern elements in public open spaces, family recreation facilities, and eco-friendly materials. The proposed revitalization demonstrates how integrating cultural, social, and ecological dimensions can transform Marina City into an inclusive, resilient, and sustainable waterfront destination, while simultaneously strengthening cultural identity and supporting local socio-economic recovery. m for public spaces that are flexible, family-friendly, and environmentally adaptive. This design not only restores the area’s image but also strengthens social connectivity and supports sustainable coastal tourism in Batam.

Abstract

Kampung tua Tiangwangkang merupakan salah satu dari 37 kampung tua yang ada di Batam dan berpotensi untuk menjadi kawasan wisata dengan kearifan lokal dari Suku Laut yang menempati kawasan tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori ekistics yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui potensi-potensi kampung tua Tiangwangkan yang didasarkan dari budaya atau kearifan lokal dari Suku Laut dimana dapat menjadi referensi untuk penduduk Kampung tua Tiangwangkang. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi dan dokumentasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori Ekistics sebagai dasar analisis potensi permukiman. Hasil yang didapatkan dari analisis pada kampung tua Tiangwangkang menurut teori Ekistics terdapat beberapa potensi yang dapat dikembangkan di kampung tua Tiangwangkang menjadi sebuah Kawasan Pariwisata berkelanjutan yang dapat dikaitkan dengan kebudayaan Suku Laut. Hal ini dapat disimpulkan kampung tua Tiangwangkang ini dihuni oleh keturunan Suku Laut dengan budayanya yang sangat unik dan dapat dibuat menjadi tempat wisata dengan kearifan lokal yang dapat menarik perhatian para wisatawan lokal maupun internasional.

Abstract

Coastal areas have great potential to be developed as recreational spaces that not only attract tourists but also preserve local culture. Sambau Beach in Nongsa, Batam, faces challenges from rapid development that threatens the identity of Kampung Tua, environmental sustainability, and socio-cultural continuity. This study aims to explore how the Sambau coastal area can be utilized as a recreational space that integrates cultural values and sustainable principles. A qualitative descriptive method with a Research-Based Design (RBD) approach was used, combining literature studies, field observations, and contextual analysis. Findings show that local cultural activities, such as the Tepuk Tepung Tawar ceremony, traditional music performances, and exhibitions of local crafts, play a significant role in attracting tourists while maintaining local identity. Based on these findings, design strategies were developed by incorporating culture into spatial planning, including spaces for cultural performances and communal activities. These spaces are designed to resemble traditional balai adat, functioning as cultural landmarks and community hubs. The resulting design concept emphasizes sustainable development based on local wisdom and aims to enhance tourism potential, support environmental conservation, and reinforce cultural identity. These strategies are visualized through conceptual sketches, spatial diagrams, and 3D models.

Abstract

Visual comfort in sports facilities is significantly influenced by the quality of artificial lighting systems, particularly for multi-functional buildings operating at night. This study analyzes the effectiveness of artificial lighting in the sports hall at Universitas Internasional Batam, a semi-outdoor facility serving as a sports arena, event venue, and access route to classrooms. Preliminary observations and user complaints indicated visual discomfort during nighttime activities, including uneven light distribution and excessively dark areas. The study aims to evaluate lighting level compliance with SNI 6197-2020 standards and analyze users' visual comfort perceptions. A mixed-methods approach was employed through illuminance measurements using a luxmeter and surveys of 24 active users. Results show average lighting levels of 313 lux, meeting the SNI 6197-2020 standard (300 lux) for sports facilities. However, while 70.8% of respondents rated the lighting as adequate, 54.1% experienced eye fatigue periodically due to uneven light distribution (uniformity ratio 0.60 < CIE standard 0.7) and flickering lamps (37.5% fixtures).  Recommendations include regular lamp maintenance, additional lighting installation in low-intensity areas, and establishing operational procedures to ensure access corridor lights remain on for user safety and comfort. This study contributes to understanding the relationship between quantitative lighting standards and subjective visual comfort in multi-functional sports facilities.
