Abstract

Abstract

The ogoh-ogoh tradition, originally rooted in Balinese Hindu culture, has also developed in transmigration areas such as Dusun 2, Maju Sejahtera Village, Karang Bintang Subdistrict, Tanah Bumbu Regency. This study addresses two main questions: how the ogoh-ogoh tradition was introduced into a transmigrant community, and how local residents interpret its meaning. Positioned to fill a gap in existing research, this study explores how Balinese Hindu traditions adapt outside of Bali. Using historical methods, the research follows four stages: heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Data were collected through interviews with ten key informants and field documentation. Findings show that ogoh-ogoh has been practiced since 1985 and has evolved in form, meaning, and participation—especially among youth organized under STT Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. The ogoh-ogoh is viewed not only as a symbolic figure to drive away negative forces before Nyepi, but also as a medium for cultural expression, social solidarity, and community identity among Hindus in migration settings. This study demonstrates that tradition can adapt to new environments without losing its core essence. The results of this study are important for strengthening Balinese cultural identity in transmigrant areas. Future research may further explore interreligious relations and the transformation of cultural values through digital and social media.

Abstract

This research is motivated by concerns about the fading of Javanese cultural identity and nostalgia for their hometown, prompting them to strive to preserve their culture in a multicultural diaspora. The method used in this research is qualitative-descriptive. Data was collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research location is at the Pendopo Budaya Banjarbaru, which serves as the center for art and culture activities in Loktabat Utara Village, Banjarbaru North District, Banjarbaru City. The results show that the Kempalan Community of Jogja Family South Kalimantan (KEJOGJA Kal-Sel) successfully received a grant for a set of Yogyakarta gamelan from the DIY Palace as the main means of preserving karawitan art. The Bhinneka Tunggal Laras karawitan group, which is under the auspices of this association, is actively conducting rehearsals and performances, particularly involving the younger generation across ethnic groups. The values of Javanese culture such as guyub (harmony), grapyak semanah (friendliness), lembah manah (humility), unggah-ungguh (etiquette), ewuh pakewuh (mutual respect), srawung (gathering, interacting), and mutual cooperation are implemented in social interactions and ethics in these activities. It can be concluded from this study that the migrant community is able to preserve Javanese culture in a relevant and active way in a new environment. One way is by participating in cultural festivals and art exhibitions to preserve the culture while also introducing it to the wider community.

Abstract

Problem-solving ability is a higher-order thinking skill that plays an essential role in history learning. However, students often face difficulties due to limited active engagement in the learning process. This condition encourages the application of learning models that can enhance such abilities. This study aims to describe the effect of the problem posing learning model on students’ problem-solving skills in grade XI at SMA Negeri 11 Banjarmasin. The research employed a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design, specifically the nonequivalent control group design. The population consisted of all grade XI students, with purposive sampling used to select two classes: XI-C as the experimental group (problem posing) and XI-A as the control group (expository). The research instrument was a multiple-choice test, previously validated and tested for reliability. Results of the Independent Sample t-Test showed that the pretest significance was 0.364 (>0.05), while the posttest result was <0.001 (<0.05), with a t-value of 12.236 exceeding the t-table value of ±1.993 (df = 72, α = 0.05). These findings reject H0 and accept Ha, indicating that problem posing is more effective than expository learning. Thus, the problem posing model has a positive effect on improving students’ problem-solving skills in history learning.

Abstract

Chronological thinking is a crucial skill in history learning, as it enables students to understand the sequence of time and the logical relationship between historical events. Preliminary observations at SMA Negeri 1 Martapura revealed that many students still face difficulties in this aspect, partly due to the limited use of interactive learning media. This study aims to analyze the effect of using domino card media on students’ chronological thinking skills. This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design using a nonequivalent control group. The sample consisted of class X.2 as the experimental group and class X.4 as the control group. The research instrument was a set of 21 multiple-choice questions that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was conducted using normality, homogeneity, and t-tests with the assistance of IBM SPSS 25. The results showed that the average pretest score of the experimental class was 65.25, which increased to 84.57 in the posttest, while the control class only increased slightly from 66.89 to 69.18. The independent sample t-test revealed a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that historical domino card media has a significant effect on improving students’ chronological thinking skills in history learning.

Abstract

Learning resources are one of three important components in the learning process, namely students, teachers and learning resources. Success in the learning process depends on the use of selected learning resources and media. This research focuses on history learning for class XI IPS. The aim of the research is to analyze the use of digital sources as learning resources in history lessons at SMA Negeri 10 Banjarmasin. This research uses a qualitative descriptive research method. Data collection techniques were carried out using observation, interviews and document studies related to teaching modules, photos and learning resources. The results of the research show that learning history using digital sources at SMA Negeri 10 Banjarmasin is implementing learning in class via laptop and LCD devices as a means of providing material by the teacher to students via power points, pictures and explanations of the material presented by the teacher in class. The use of digital sources in class XI history learning has been implemented at this school. There are several digital sources that students use in carrying out the learning process, such as YouTube, e-books, and the internet by accessing Google search via the website.
