Abstract

Bantaeng Industrial Zone (KIBA) is located in Bantaeng Regency and was initiated with the establishment of Bantaeng Regional Regulation Number 2 of 2012 concerning the Spatial Planning of Bantaeng Regency for the period 2012-2032. The Pa'jukukang Subdistrict was designated as a large industrial area covering an area of 3,128 hectares. KIBA was also designated as a National Strategic Project (PSN) through Presidential Regulation 9 of 2022 regarding the Amendment to Presidential Regulation 7/2021 on the Amendment of the National Strategic Project List. Based on data from the Bantaeng Regency Investment and One-Stop Service Office from 2010 to 2017, there were 13 companies with various business fields. Changes in the coastline along the Bantaeng coast are caused by sediment transport resulting from wind and wave action. This study aims to determine the characteristics of sediment and the annual sediment transport rate along the coast. The sediment transport analysis results indicate that for the representative 1% wave, it is 2,134.84 m3/year, for the representative 10% wave, it is 993.91 m3/year, for the representative 50% wave, it is 461.45 m3/year, and for the representative 100% wave, it is 147.89 m3/year. All sediment transport is directed westward. The larger the percentage of the representative wave, the smaller the total sediment transport discharge (Q) produced.

Abstract

Coastal and marine geohazard threats can occur in coastal tourism areas in Makassar City. Several coastal tourism sites in Makassar City are managed by the community, namely by the Tanjung Merdeka Community Empowerment Agency (LPM) and acts as a partner for socialisation activities. Tourism managers are still ignorant of the potential for coastal and marine geohazards, such as the lack of information on geohazard signs and the potential for accidents that lead to disasters for tourism visitors. Socialisation of coastal and marine geohazards in Makassar City's coastal tourism areas has been carried out with an increase in the average knowledge of participants by 45.3%. The increase in partner knowledge includes awareness, preparedness, and disaster response attitudes about coastal and marine geohazard phenomena in coastal tourism activities, which can ultimately encourage and realise partners as community-based tourism managers who implement early warning of disaster risk and occupational safety. Strengthening partners is realised by handing over coastal and ocean geohazard signs as an early warning of disasters that can occur at tourist sites.

Abstract

At the Fish Landing Harbor (PPI) coastal protection buildings have been built to protect the area in an effort to obtain calm waters at the harbor. A breakwater is infrastructure built to break waves by absorbing wave energy. The types of wave breakers are sloping side breakwaters, vertical side breakwaters and mixed wave breakers. Waves are a form of energy that can shape beaches, cause currents and sediment transport in perpendicular directions and along the coast, and cause forces that act on coastal buildings. The aim of this research is to determine the characteristics of wave transmission and alternative breakwater construction in ports, simulated using a numerical hydrodynamic model to simulate waves. The input data is wave height, wave period and wave direction. The Fish Landing Harbor Breakwater (PPI) is not yet optimal because the waves entering the port area in the west season reach 1.2 meters. Based on the results of the breakwater design used to optimize its function, this can be proven by the existence of breakwater construction designed in modeling where the breakwater with a length of 150 m, the wave height entering the protected area is 0.81 m, the breakwater with a length of 300, the wave height entering the area protected by 0.2 m, and a breakwater with a length of 500, the wave height entering the protected area is 0.03 m.

Abstract

Makassar is one of the cities in Indonesia that is unlikely to be free from natural disasters. The problem is that the community, especially school-age children, is not yet responsive and alert and does not understand disaster preparedness's importance. Low knowledge, lack of information provision, and disaster risk management can increase the number of victims. Athirah Islamic School, one of the partners in this service, provides facilities for Psychoeducation activities for students. From this problem, a solution for disaster risk reduction is needed by giving psychoeducation (disaster mental health) and disaster preparedness around general reactions (behavior, emotion, cognition, and physical). Psychoeducation materials will be delivered by the Bosowa University psychology team, also partners in this Service activity. The implementation method of this service program includes mentoring and disaster preparedness training from a psychological perspective. The research method used in this service is experimental with a pretest-posttest design approach. The statistical analysis results showed a difference in student knowledge regarding disaster preparedness before and after participating in psychoeducation with a sig <0.05. This service concludes that the training provided to Athirah Bukit Baruga Islamic Middle School students positively impacts students' disaster preparedness knowledge.

Abstract

The existence of coral reefs in Indonesia ranks first in area and type. The total area of coral reefs owned by Indonesia is 14% of the total area of coral reefs in the world. Coral reefs have an important value in life, both in terms of ecology to promising economic value. Therefore, the Department of Marine Engineering in collaboration with partners of the South Sulawesi Provincial Tourism Office held an activity “Coral Transplantation as an Environmental Care Action for sustainable use”. This activity has the aim of providing an understanding of the importance of knowledge about the economic and environmental benefits of coral reefs as a beach / sun tourism attraction for domestic and foreign tourists to visit the province of South Sulawesi, especially on Badi Island in Pangkep Regency (Pangkajene Islands). Coral reefs that have been damaged require a long time to recover, due to the slow growth rate of corals. Therefore, human intervention through various methods and means becomes indispensable to improve and rehabilitate the condition of coral reefs. One rehabilitation technique that has been widely recognized and applied in various parts of the world is coral transplantation. By using lecture and discussion methods, as well as coral reef rehabilitation efforts through the real action of coral transplantation. The results obtained showed that there was an increase in knowledge before and after the community participated in the activity and the degradation of coral reefs that occurred could be restored through transplantation of 500 donor corals. The conclusion of this activity indicates that the presentation of material in the form of lectures and discussions has increased community knowledge, and the real action of coral reef transplantation can increase coral reef colonies as a sustainable use.

Abstract

Abstract

One major environmental problem exacerbated by longshore currents is beach erosion. Groins are a common defense tactic built perpendicular to the shore. However, conventional impermeable groins promote downstream erosion and disrupt sediment movement. Permeable groins provide a more environmentally friendly option, allowing some sediment to flow through. This study examines the effects of permeable groins on longshore currents. Permeable groins are not included in currently used longshore current equations. This study fills this gap by creating a new longshore current velocity equation considering permeable groins. The longshore current equation with the groin was developed based on the momentum equation in the longshore direction without the influence of lateral mixing and the assumption that base friction will rise due to the groin. Therefore, it was determined that the base shear stress after the groin was equal to the base shear stress plus the drag caused by the groin. The result shows that the longshore current equation through the groin is a function of the breaking wave parameter and the resistance parameter owing to the groin. Longshore current velocities with and without permeable groins of different densities were measured in wave basins. We collected information on groin characteristics, current velocities, and breaking wave heights. This investigation validates the shortcomings of the current equations. Doi: 10.28991/CEJ-2025-011-02-07 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

The increase in community activities in the Makassar waters has made the government plan long-term development by exploiting the potential of the sea through coastal reclamation, which aims to meet increasingly limited land needs, one of which is the construction of the New Makassar Container Terminal 2. This development causes changes in coastal sedimentation patterns and current patterns. This research aims to determine the flow patterns and sediment patterns that occur in the Tallo River Estuary due to the construction of the New Makassar 2 Container Terminal and simulated with a numerical hydrodynamic model using scenarios resulting from tidal measurements and wind as generators. The research results show that the flow pattern around the Tallo River Estuary before and after the construction of the New Makassar 2 Container Terminal decreased by 51.288% from 0.105 m/s to 0.051 m/s. The direction of the current at the highest tide conditions moves from the open sea towards the estuary, while at the lowest low tide conditions, it moves from the estuary towards the open sea. The distribution of sediment in the waters of the Tallo River Estuary shows that changes in the basic morphology of the Tallo River Estuary tend to be high; namely, in the review lines 1 - 5, there is a change in sedimentation of 0.055 m; 0.096m; 0.048m; 0.158 m and 0.059 m. So, it can be concluded that the construction of the New Makassar 2 Container Terminal affects the water conditions in the Tallo River Estuary.
