Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to examine whether the Fama-French Three-Factor Model can explain stock returns in the Hong Kong stock market, while also testing the robustness of the model beyond its original United States context. Using secondary data from all companies listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange for the period July 2021 to June 2024, the study constructs three key factors, namely market risk premium, firm size (SMB), and firm value (HML), which are subsequently analyzed through multiple regression analysis across varying market conditions and sectors. The findings reveal that all three factors carry significant explanatory power over stock returns across sectors in the Hong Kong market. Among the three, the size factor (SMB) demonstrates the strongest influence, suggesting that firm size plays a particularly important role in explaining return differences within the Hong Kong market. Furthermore, the model proves to be more effective in explaining return variability among large firms with high book-to-market ratios than among small firms. Despite these findings, the study acknowledges certain limitations, most notably its relatively short time horizon and its focus on a single market, which may restrict the generalizability of the results to other markets or longer time periods. Nonetheless, this study makes a meaningful contribution to the asset pricing literature by providing empirical evidence on the application of the Fama-French Three-Factor Model in an international market setting, offering valuable insights for academics, investors, portfolio managers, and policymakers, particularly those operating in Hong Kong and economies with similar market characteristics.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of fundamental factors on stock prices of property companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during the 2016–2023 period. The independent variables are Return on Equity (ROE), Debt to Equity Ratio (DER), Earnings Per Share (EPS), Current Ratio (CR), and Accounts Receivable Turnover (ART), while the dependent variable is stock price measured by the closing stock price. This study employs a quantitative approach with an explanatory research design. The population consists of 35 property companies listed on the IDX during 2016–2023. Using purposive sampling, 30 companies that met the research criteria were selected, resulting in 240 observations. Secondary data were obtained from the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) and the Indonesian Capital Market Directory (ICMD). Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results indicate that ROE, DER, EPS, CR, and ART simultaneously affect stock prices. Partially, ROE, DER, and EPS have a positive and significant effect on stock prices, whereas CR and ART do not have a significant effect. The adjusted coefficient of determination shows that the model explains 22.7% of stock price variation. These findings indicate that investors place greater emphasis on profitability and earnings performance than on liquidity and activity ratios when evaluating property companies.

Abstract

This research, which falls within the area of microstructure of financial markets, aims to compare liquidity with transaction costs, and determine the factors affecting volatility in small and large total asset energy companies in Indonesia. The use of data on companies with contrasting total assets contributes to providing investment portfolio management considerations for investors. The data used is taken from high-frequency stock price data per 30 minutes from Bloomberg subscribed. The illiquidity measurement method uses Amihud's Illiquidity, transaction costs use relative Bid-Ask Spread (BAS), and realized volatility is calculated using the square root of the realized variance. The use of 30-minute high-frequency stock price data can provide more detailed information. As a result, companies with small assets tend to have much greater stock price volatility, transaction costs, and illiquidity compared to companies with large assets. The factor affecting realized volatility is the volume of stock transactions. The greater the volume of stock transactions, the greater the volatility of stock prices. Abstract

Abstract

The development of biotechnological crops plays a significant role in enhancing food security and sustainability in tropical regions. However, public acceptance remains a major challenge, particularly in the context of rapid digital information dissemination. This study aims to predict public acceptance of biotechnological products by integrating socio-cognitive factors such as knowledge, perception, digital information exposure, trust, and sustainability awareness. A cross-sectional survey employing purposive sampling was conducted with 500 respondents, drawn from diverse stakeholder groups including academics, government officials, entrepreneurs, farmers, and students. Data were analyzed using a machine learning approach comprising logistic regression, Random Forest, Gradient Boosting, and XGBoost algorithms, evaluated against metrics of accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and AUC-ROC. The results show that approximately 70% of respondents have limited knowledge of biotechnology, while about 75% agree that biotechnology can improve agricultural productivity, economic conditions, and food security. Furthermore, 76% of respondents indicate willingness to purchase biotechnological products. The predictive analysis reveals that knowledge and perception are key determinants of acceptance, while digital information exposure and sustainability awareness further strengthen positive attitudes. Individuals with greater access to reliable information tend to exhibit higher trust and a stronger likelihood of purchasing biotechnological products. These findings highlight the importance of strengthening digital communication strategies and sustainability narratives to improve public understanding and acceptance. This study contributes to tropical bioresource research by supporting data-driven decision-making within the One Health and sustainable agriculture framework.
