Abstract

This article aims to reveal the political thoughts of Abdullahi Ahmed An-Na'im regarding the concept of a secular state. The material object of this study is An-Na'im's political thought in the form of a secular state concept which is reviewed using epistemology as its formal object. The results of this study explain that: first, the basic assumption of An-Na'im's political thought is a post-secularist worldview. Second, the paradigm is anthropocentric positivism. Third, the framework is constitutionalism, human rights, and citizenship. All these three are used by An-Na'im primarily to make sharia relevant to the context of a modern state. Viewed from an Islamic perspective, the epistemology of An-Na'im's political thought is problematic because after all, post-secularism is still rooted in the principle of separation of state and religion. Making post-secularism a basic assumption is a form of confusion in perspective. Making anthropocentric positivism a paradigm also means placing human knowledge as the main truth. Likewise, framing sharia within the framework of constitutionalism, human rights, and citizenship is a step that has the potential to ignore aspects of the maslahat contained in sharia.

Abstract

The issue of religious freedom continues to grow. A number of figures and institutions are constantly campaigning for religious freedom to every level of society. This effort emerged after the right of religious freedom seems to have been misinterpreted by attitudes that were considered intolerant and did not respect differences. This writing is quite interesting to study, due to the strong assumption that everyone has the freedom to embrace religion and worship according to his religion, and everyone is free to believe in beliefs, express thoughts and attitudes, according to his conscience. This study is a literature review, the method used is descriptive method, and conclusions are drawn by using deductive thinking. The result of this study is that religion gives freedom to anyone to choose between religion or even being an atheist. The practice of amar ma'ruf nahi munkar is a religious order and does not violate religious freedom. Islam does not force someone to embrace a certain religion, but Islam obliges every Muslim to convey goodness, invites to the truth, and avoids disgraceful actions, such as Habib Abdullah's theory which says that the great symbol of religion is amar ma'ruf nahi munkar.

Abstract

Every country has a goal to create prosperity for the whole society. Islam has exemplified that religion is closely related to the state. The implication of this relationship between ritual and politics has a very close relationship, it could be inseparable. But over time, the opinion emerged that religion and state should not unite, they argued that this separation could become active with modernization since religion can focus on spiritual affairs and political affairs can specifically regulate society. However, in practice it turns out that separation like a secular state has some significant impact on society. Therefore this article seeks to examine these problems through a literature review that is descriptive-analytical with an interdisciplinary approach, the analysis used is inductive analysis and content analysis. The results of this study show that the conception of a secular state aimed at making a Muslim better, seems to be a mere utopia. The impact of a secular state such as racism and capitalism is very detrimental to the people who are excluded. Ideologically and practically, the conception of a secular state is incompatible with Islamic values, because the Prophet Muhammad did not only teach religious affairs, but also taught political issues, even the Prophet Muhammad gave an example as a politician while in Medina and became a state administrator.

Abstract

In the era of globalization, the concept of Free Trade has dominated international trade policies, emphasizing liberalization and minimal government intervention. However, there is growing criticism of the negative impacts of Free Trade on justice, the environment, and the economy. This research aims to analyze the integration between the Fair Trade concept and Sharia Economic principles as one of the concepts that can criticize the Free Trade concept. Fair Trade emphasizes fair trade by ensuring that producers in developing countries practice economic fairness. Likewise, the principles of Sharia Economics emphasize distributive justice, transparency, and sustainability. The integration of these two concepts can create a framework that promotes fair, sustainable trade oriented toward community welfare. Drawing on qualitative sources—journals, books, and previous research —this article explains how these two concepts can complement each other in the current global economic context. The results of this research show that integrating Fair Trade and Sharia Economics can provide fairer solutions to address global trade challenges, promote justice, and ensure economic prosperity for all parties involved. This article offers insights into the current international trading system and further explores the potential for cooperation between these two concepts. The integration of Fair Trade and Sharia Economics is not only a critique of the Free Trade concept but also an effort to build a trade system that is fairer, more sustainable, and oriented towards human values and justice.

Abstract

This study critically discussed the concept of 'perpetual peace' according to Immanuel Kant. For Kant, peace is absolute, and war must be avoided. Kant's concept of peace departs from his philosophical ideas about humans and ethics. According to the researcher's hypothesis, Kant's concept of peace is problematic and not compatible with the concept of peace in Islam. This study aimed to describe Immanuel Kant's concept of perpetual peace and the concept of peace in Islam. In addition, it also analyzed how Kant's concept of perpetual peace is viewed from the Islamic worldview. This research was library research, and the methods used were descriptive, analytical, and comparative. This research concluded that Kant's concept of peace had several philosophical and practical problems. Philosophically, Kant's concept of peace revolves around the concept of man, ethics, and causality, which tend to deny the element of God in it. In practical terms, Kant's idea that war should not exist is a dream that is difficult to realize. His opinion about the peace triangle also leaves many problems.

Abstract

Japan is one of the developed countries in East Asia. It can be seen from advances in technology, education and a high level of discipline. However, poverty has hit this country due to problems with the tax system and the increase in elderly people. The research methodology used in this research is a descriptive qualitative research method. This article aims to provide a solution to the problem of poverty that occurs in Japan through the implementation of a zakat system based on the Koran and Sunnah. The urgency of this research is to offer or propose a solution to the problem of poverty for the Japanese embassy. The results of this research show that persistent poverty in Japan can be eradicated by implementing a taxation system based on the concept of zakat nishab, so that tax payments do not burden those who pay zakat and there is no excess payment to avoid embezzlement of funds by greedy individuals.

Abstract

The concept of power today is much influenced by the thoughts of John Locke. The power shaped by John Locke gives this country a liberal character. Individual rights are at the centre of all interests. In the history of Islam, some concepts have been very important in shaping Islamic perceptions of democracy. This research is library research because it is library research. The approach used is a historical-philosophical approach. This paper dissects John Locke's democratic thinking, which is analysed using the democratic thinking of a contemporary Muslim intellectual, namely Abu A'la Maududi. Theo-democracy is a system of government initiated by Al-Maududi by combining the concepts of monotheism and trias politica. The Al-Maududi Islamic State must be built on the basis of Islam, which is the main foundation of Tawhid. According to Maududi, power in the form of sovereignty is based primarily on God's sovereignty rather than the sovereignty of the people. The theo-democratic system is divided into three institutions: the legislature, executive, and judiciary.
