Abstract

DHF poses a significant public health concern in regions characterised by tropical and subtropical climates. Indonesia is among the nations that have encountered challenges in effectively addressing the issue of DHF, as seen by the escalating number of cases. West Java Province is positioned at the forefront among the top three provinces in terms of reporting the highest number of DHF cases, with a total of 10,722 cases. The number of DHF cases in Depok City shown a notable rise, escalating from 1,276 cases and resulting in 3 fatalities in the year 2020 to a total of 3,155 cases in the subsequent year of 2021. The primary aim of this study was to ascertain the demographic characteristics of families with inpatients and intensive care patients, and to assess the overall financial burden associated with treatment, non-treatment expenses, indirect costs, and economic losses experienced by families of inpatients and intensive care patients afflicted with DHF disease at Depok City Hospital. The present study employed a descriptive analytic strategy utilising a quantitative methodology. The study was carried out at the Depok City General Hospital, utilising both primary and secondary data sources. The population under investigation in this study had a total of 429 patients. The sample size for the study was determined to be 203 using Lameshow's sample size technique. The variables considered in this study encompassed demographic characteristics, the overall direct expenses associated with treatment, the entire direct costs associated with non-treatment, the aggregate indirect costs, and the complete economic losses experienced by families of patients with DHF at Depok City General Hospital. The data underwent analysed through the application of univariate analysis and cost evaluation computation. The findings indicated that the average direct cost of therapy was Rp. 7,797,833 or USD 507.23. The average non-treatment direct expenditures amount to Rp. 2,701,440 or USD 178.59. The average value of indirect costs was Rp. 2,471,557 or USD 163.40. The average family economic loss was Rp. 12,970,830 or USD 843.72. Conclusions: This study demonstrates that the sickness known as dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) can result in financial burdens for families, particularly in terms of non-medical direct costs and indirect costs.

Abstract

Stunting is a condition of failure to thrive in children under five due to chronic malnutrition. This study aimed to see whether there is a definite relationship between maternal height, maternal education, maternal nutrition knowledge, maternal age, and maternal employment status against stunting cases in Manggeng village, Southwest Aceh Regency. Research is an observational analysis with a cross-sectional approach. They were held for two months (November September 2021) in Padang village Manggeng district of Southwest Aceh Regency. The sample withdrawal was a saturated sample of 45 mothers with toddlers ages 24-59. The results of the analysis concluded that there was no meaningful relationship between the characteristics of the mother of toddlers (height, age, education level, knowledge of nutrition, and employment status) or stunting factors that were examined against the number of stunting cases in Padang village which means the variables used statistically less precisely as variables predicator stunting rate. The level of risk of observed factors consisting of maternal height means that Stunting tendencies are riskier in mothers with short size than mothers with a high body, as well as the risk factors of the education level, Knowledge and status of the mother's work.

Abstract

Stunting is still one of the priorities for a maternal and child health in Indonesia. The stunting prevalence rate in Boyolali Regency in 2023 reached 6,86%, relatively lower compared to the national level. However, the focus on handling stunting is still specifically for pregnant women and toddlers. There is a need to optimize the role of Family Support Team cadres to be able to supervise the prospective bride, as an effort to prevent stunting. This service was carried out in the Department of Population Control Service, Family Planning, Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (DP2KBP3A) Boyolali Regency with a target of 20 family support team cadres’, who represent rom each sub-district in Boyolali Regency. The aim of this service was to increase cadres knowledge on stunting, including factors that cause stunting, pregnancy planning, and family assistance for prospective brides. The majority of cadres have completed high school education (70%), have been cadres for more than 10 years (60%), and have 1-3 jobs (60%). There was an increase in cadres’ knowledge before and after being given training (p<0,05). Result shows that activities carried out were the provision of training as an effort to complement the knowledge and understanding of family support team cadres, especially for prospective brides, was effective, demonstrated by an increase in cadres knowledge before and after training.

Abstract

Abstract Antibiotics are one of the most commonly used drugs in the community because they are so readily available, even without a prescription. Utilizing antibiotics excessively, improperly, and unnecessarily promotes the emergence of resistance and even multiple resistances in certain bacteria, which can lead to cross-infection. According to numerous studies conducted in Indonesia regarding antibiotic knowledge, there are still a large number of people from various circles who do not comprehend the use of antibiotics. Resistance to the antibiotics ampicillin (73%), cotrimoxazole (56%), chloramphenicol (43%), ciprofloxacin (22%), and gentamicin (18%) resulted in 781 patients infected with Escherichia coli bacteria in 2016, according to research conducted by Nisak. In addition, the results of the research on knowledge of antibiotic use in the community revealed that as many as 14 respondents had low knowledge and only 20 respondents had high knowledge of antibiotic use among mothers in the Airlangga Village area of the Gubeng District of Surabaya. Therefore, we perform community service utilizing health education techniques regarding the correct use of antibiotics. The activity was conducted for 120 minutes on June 25, 2022 in Buaran Village, RT001/RW005, Pamulang, Banten, Indonesia. The success of community service activities is determined by administering pre- and post-tests. From pre-test results of 64.3% to post-test results of 90.7%, there was an increase of 26.4% in the percentage of the public who knew about the use of antibiotics. Abstract

Stunting remains a critical public health issue in Indonesia, with a prevalence of 21.6% in 2022. This study aims to analyze the relationship between parental knowledge and attitudes toward stunting management in Tanjungmas, Semarang, given its severe long-term impacts on physical growth, cognitive development, and disease susceptibility. A cross-sectional design was employed, surveying 30 parents of stunted children. Results revealed that while 96.7% of respondents exhibited positive attitudes, 90% lacked understanding of stunting’s long-term consequences. Statistical analysis found no significant correlation between knowledge and positive stunting prevention behavior (p=0.315), indicating that knowledge alone is insufficient to drive behavioral change. Socioeconomic status, healthcare access, and family environment emerged as stronger determinants of parental behavior. The study concludes that holistic interventions addressing structural barriers—such as poverty and healthcare inequities—are essential alongside education. Community-based programs should integrate contextual solutions to improve nutritional practices. Further research is recommended to explore the gap between maternal knowledge and practical childcare behaviors

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to demonstrate dynamic fluctuations across global, regional, and local contexts. These ongoing variations have substantial public health and socioeconomic consequences worldwide. This study examines the financial and demographic effects of COVID-19 hospitalizations at South Tangerang General Hospital between 2021 and 2022. A retrospective economic analysis by comparing hospitalization data from 2021 and 2022. This study evaluated key parameters, including patient demographics, duration of hospitalization, treatment costs, and funding sources, identifying significant patterns across the study period. This study revealed notable changes in patient demographics, with the predominant age group shifting from > 59 years (2021) to 19-59 years (2022; p=0.000). The percentage of females represented increased from 49.1% to 59.5% (p=0.033). Compared with 2021 admissions, hospital stays were significantly shorter, with most 2022 patients discharged within 1–5 days (p=0.000). The average treatment costs declined from $3,676 to $2,024 (p=0.000), primarily due to reduced nursing and medication expenses. Funding sources transitioned from near-total (99.6%) reliance on the national COVID-19 program in 2021 to 52.7% coverage by the BPJS health insurance in 2022 (p=0.000). This study revealed significant changes in COVID-19 hospitalization patterns, characterized by younger patient populations, shorter hospital stays, and lower treatment costs. The evolving financial model, which incorporates both insurance and government support, highlights the necessity of forward-looking financial strategies in healthcare systems to effectively manage future health crises. These findings underscore the adaptive capacity of the healthcare sector and the critical role of socioeconomic considerations in treatment outcomes.

Abstract

Leptospirosis is a tropical endemic disease that can reduce the productivity of sufferers. However, research on economic and productivity losses due to leptospirosis is rare. This study aimed to determine economic and productivity losses due to leptospirosis in the Banyumas District, Indonesia, as an endemic area. This study used a cross-sectional design and quantitative methods conducted in October 2022. Secondary data of medical records and billing information from 73 inpatients receiving treatment at a Public Hospital in the Banyumas District from February 2021 to September 2022 obtained from the hospital’s archives were used. This study examined the actual costs (direct and indirect costs) of treatment, average length of stay, and patient characteristics. Statistical tools were carried out to check the results. The results showed that over half of leptospirosis patients used insurance with an economic loss of USD 289.64 and a productivity loss value of USD 388,499. Patients infected with leptospirosis vary in age. Leptospirosis results in loss of patient productivity during treatment. Increasing prevention and control to prevent deaths and economic burdens on society and local governments is proposed to local governments.
