Abstract

Early childhood motor development is important to know, as an effort to identify children's talents and abilities. Early detection also needs to be known to determine what efforts can be taken to optimize child development. This study aims to provide a description of gross and fine motor development in children aged 4-5 years who are associated with parents' socio-economic status (SES). The research method used descriptive quantitative method, with Ex-Post Facto design. The study population was children 4-5 years old Kindergarten and Raudhatul Athfal in urban areas with Intermediate (Middle and Upper and Lower Middle) SES levels. The sample was chosen by cluster random sampling. Participating samples have received parental approval. SES is measured using the SES Questioner. Motor skills were measured using ASQ 3rd Edition. Efforts to increase active lifestyles in early childhood require the role of a fairly large parent. Good gross motoric development is the child's initial capital to be able to carry out more complex motion tasks. Fine motoric is no less important to continue stimulated both in the home and school environment. Because this plays an important role as a basis for children to be able to write and read, as well as doing simple motor tasks.

Abstract

Concerns to children with disabilities in terms of their needs for moving and level of physical activity have not been supported by a teacher supply system that is appropriate for their field of study, namely adaptive physical education teachers. This study is aimed at portraying teachers’ profiles of Adaptive Physical Education in special schools in Indonesia. The data collection was carried out by means of questionnaires and articulated with the descriptive approach. The result of the study reveals that the number of specialist teachers with physical education backgrounds is still meager, which is only around 38 percent, compared to those who graduated from Special Education Program, which more than 60.5 percent. The majority of the teachers have never been given a chance to improve their PE teaching competency in the form of training (86,4 percent). It is recommended that there should be an openness from those working in special schools and the Ministry of Education and Culture of the urgent need for this adaptive physical education teacher.  The statement will encourage the evolve of national urgency and drive all the stakeholders to respond to it institutionally, for instance by opening the program for adaptive physical education or at least to pave the way with initially offering concentration for this adaptive PE under the generic PE program.

Abstract

The development of early childhood needs to be considered, considering the child is a parent investment in the future. Meeting the nutritional needs of children has an important role in achieving optimal growth and development, and is one of the determinants of achieving these needs. Nutritional status in children in the school environment often uses height and weight parameters. This study aims to determine the effect of nutritional status on early childhood on motor skills. The method used is ex-post facto in the sample of early childhood aged four to five years who have attended kindergarten with middle-level socioeconomic status. Nutritional status is known through height and weight, gross and fine motor development measured using ASQ 3rd edition. Data was processed with SPSS using the Kruskal Wallis Test analysis technique. The results show 90% of children are in the Thin category, 6.7% are in the Normal category, and 3.3% are in the obesity category. There is no influence of nutritional status on gross and fine motoric abilities in kindergarten children. The results of this study can be used as a consideration for the government to pay attention to nutritional status and motoric abilities of children, in an effort to minimize the gap between the quality of education and the various backgrounds of parents' socio-economic status.

Abstract

An orphanage is an unfamiliar place for the children who live in it. Playing activities could give the children the opportunity to express all their emotions naturally. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of traditional games on the personality, depression, social worthiness, and emotional isolation of children in an orphanage. The population of the study were 13 elementary school-age children in an orphanage in Bandung. Sampling technique used total sampling technique with inclusion and exclusion criteria. The sample of this study included 10 boys. The instrument used was the emotional isolation symptom test with UCLA Loneliness Version 3. This study used One Group Pre-test Post-test design. Analysis of research data employed quantitative descriptive analysis technique. The results showed that the traditional games, named Bentengan and Boy-boyan, had a significant effect on emotional isolation, but did not have a significant effect on child personality, social worthiness, and depression. Children who often play had a decreased level of emotional isolation symptoms because playing was carried out together creating an emotional bond in friendship so that the child felt accepted and did not feel lonely.
