Abstract

Abstract

Many literatures in the field of public health psychology concerned to involve third phenomenon when explain the relationship of two phenomenon. The third phenomenon then formulated as a mediator or moderator variables. Both of these variables are not much utilized by researchers in Indonesia. One of the possibility cause an under utilization of mediator and moderator variables was a technical problem, such as analysis procedures. This paper explains an analysis procedure using a mediator and moderator variables. Terminology and research example using of both variables are introduced then followed by an analysis illustration on empirical data. The demonstration of the procedure in this paper is expected to be as a a guidance for researcher when develop research design and manage data analysis. Abstract

The aim of this study was to test conceptual model that showed the role of life skills to mental health. Participants of this study was teachers (N=260) from various provinces in Indonesia who are following event by Diknas in Jakarta. Life skills was measured by Life Skills Scale that consist six life skill dimensions, while mental health was measured by the Life Satisfaction Scale and Quality of Life Scale. Those measurement model each variables was tested by measurement model of Structural Equation Model/SEM that produces the fit model (χ2=23.20; p>0:05 and χ2=11.54; p>0.05). Analysis using SEM showed that model has goodness fit indices (χ2=52.13 p>0.05). The role of life skills that includes six dimensions:emotional skills, social skills, self-esteem, communication, critical thinking and problem solving are able to predict individual mental health. These results provide strong support tothe activities of mental health improvement of individuals through life skills programs.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to develop a scale of happiness based on indigenous psychology approach and identify it’s psychometric properties. The research was divided into three step of scenario: 1. happiness construct exploration based on indigenous psychology approach; 2. Develop the construct into a scale of happiness (Likert model); and 3. Identify it’s psychometric properties (reliability and validity). The psychometric properties analyses consist of internal consistency reliability (alpha‐Cronbach) and construct validity (convergent‐discriminant). Multitrait‐multimethod matrix was used on the analysis in order to identify the convergent‐discriminant validity (including three comparative scales: Self‐Esteem Scale Rosenberg, Self‐Esteem Inventory Coopersmith, and PGC Morale Scale). The exploration result shows a unique indicators of happiness in the East native culture (N=604). The psychometric properties analysis show the alpha reliability α=0.895 and the validity was psychometrically accepted (N=111). The conclusion of this study: happiness is a unique construct that consist of strong contextual aspects and the measurement of a native happiness should used a scale of happiness that based on indigenous psychology approach. Further result will be discussed.

Abstract

This study investigates item characteristics in psychological scale that susceptible to faking response. We examine the difference scores of Self Description form between two conditions. In the first condition we instruct subject to complete the form honestly (honest condition). On the other hand, in the second condition we instruct subject complete the form to make they look as good as possible (faking condition). Result suggest that in the item attributes that susceptible to faking, the score on the faking condition was higher than honest condition because subject were enable to improve their scores. We found that item attributes that verifiable, continuous, actual, controllable, second‐third sources, and future oriented were persistent to faking response. However item attributes that non‐verifiable, dichotomous, perceptual, first hand source and recent oriented, were vulnerable to faking response.

Abstract

This study aimed to apply the mixture Rasch Model Analysis techniques to identify the proportion of students who possess extreme response styles when completing the questionnaire. Total 2.981 high school students from 30 cities in 15 provinces were instructed to complete questionnaires measuring self-esteem. Self-Self-Esteem Scale consists of four self-reported sub-scales using Likert's model. Analysis suggest that based on how to respond to the scale, student in this study was grouped into three classes: extreme response style class, normal class, and mixture class. These numbers of class were consistent on all four sub-scales. The proportion of students who consistently gave an extreme response on four sub-scales was 4 percent; 6 percent was on three sub-scale, 13 percent on two sub-scales and 53 percent on one sub-scale. The small percentage of students who responded consistently gave an extreme responses suggest that high-school students appropriately choose an option response that represent their trait.

Abstract

This study examined the construct validity of the Graduate Academic Potential Test (PAPS). The examination was performed on all existing PAPS series (6 forms) to identify the consistency of dimensionality structure of PAPS. Data of this study were analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The results of the analysis support assumption that the structure of the PAPS test is unidimensional. All of the model fit indices support the decision that the unidimensional model fit the data. The study also examined factor loading that the non-verbal components, especially the quantitative components that had a higher factor weight than the other components.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the modified version of the Work Engagement Scale in the Indonesian context, by adding one aspect and test the effect of types of occupation using the multiple indicator multiple cause (MIMIC) model for testing measurement invariance. The sample of this study included 459 workers in Indonesia using 16 items of the Work Engagement Scale. The results revealed that Indonesian respondents have Asian characteristics, but they come from various ethnicities and cultures. By including university lecturers and industrial workers as respondents and performing confirmatory factor analysis followed by MIMIC model, it is discovered that Indonesian employees have satisfactory psychometric properties in all four dimensions, which comprise the constructs of the work engagement scale. The findings provide an insight into in the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) Model of work engagement in Indonesian context consisted of vigor, dedication, absorption, and contribution dimensions from theoretical understanding. MIMIC model gives an evidence that the occupation types can affect the factor structure of work engagement, indicating that measurement invariance are not hold.
