Abstract

This article looks critically the comparison between English and French Gender. The problem that will be discussed in this article is: What kind of similarities and differences do they have in gender, especially in distinguishing male from female persons? The significance of the study are to get inputs on gender in English and French in order to improve their ability in understanding gender from both languages . One of the characteristics of Indo-European language is gender, which classifies nouns to express sex distinctions. The following discussion will deal with two forms of gender, natural and grammatical gender, and the ways of showing gender. From the linguistics analysis of English and French gender that has been done in this article and the comparison between them, it can be concluded that both languages have some differences and similarities in the application of gender. The differences are focused on the kinds of gender used, English uses natural gender while French uses grammatical gender. The use of grammatical gender makes French does not have neuter gender. So the inanimate objects are considered to have gender, masculine or feminine, and the ways of showing their gender are afforded by the use of article, le for masculine and la for feminine.

Abstract

Teachers’ attitudes, teaching styles, and teaching strategies are needed to motivate students’ enthusiasm and interest in learning English. This study aims to analyze students’ perceptions of teachers’ attitudes, styles, and strategies. This study uses quantitative method with a survey design which used a questionnaire as the research instrument to get data. The study is conducted by using Google Form to get the data from the participants. The population of this study is the students of English Department of Zainul Hasan Islamic University Genggong. The sample used in this study are thirty-six students that are from several high schools around the area of Kraksaan. The collected data of this study is then analyzed by using a statistical formula to get the percentage of each question. The results shows that most of the teachers high schools around the area of Kraksaan have good attitudes and strategies in teaching English.

Abstract

This study focused on finding out whether “Constructivism Principle” approach can be used to improve students’ vocabulary mastery in the fifth grade of SDN ZAHA Probolinggo.This research involved twenty fifve students,thereare ten boys ang fifteen girls.The research instruments of this study consisted of obsevation guide in learning process, test, and given questionnaire. This study was a classroom action research. From the first cycle reflection result, some procedures and activities were revised accordingly.Steps include: (1)The students did the activities in groups made by the teacher which was not previously done in cycle 1; (2) different from cycle 1 which used “constructivism principle”.In cycle 2 used Constructivism principle and some pictures related of tehnique used.The result from the action in cycle 2 was that the average score of students achieve 80,96.It can be concluded that used “Constructivism principle” tehnique can improve the vocabulary mastery in the fifth grade of SDN ZAHA Probolinggo.

Abstract

Abstract This research was conducted to describe the real condition and situation of English subject concerned to students' Economic purposes. The aim of this research is to describe the English teaching and learning process, to know the kind of teaching method and the teaching material applied, to describe the teaching media used in technology era by the lecturer and to know the lecturer's way to assess the students' English improvement. Descriptive qualitative design is used in this study. The researcher used observation scheme, questionnaire and formal interview to complete the data as the instrument. The results of the questionnaire showed from 28 students there were 21 students enjoyed the class but the others are less interesting in this course. From the data, it answered how the impact in teaching and learning process was. The lecturer liked to use cooperative learning for teaching method and the lecturer used management book English version for the main source. Based on the result of interview and observation scheme data, the lecturer almost used technology moreover in this 4.0 era. Moreover, the researcher found the way lecturer assess the students' English skill. The conclusion was English learning concerned to ESP run well due to it proved with the students enjoyed the English teaching and learning.

Abstract

Makalah ini menyajikan gagasan penerapan membaca ekstensif Metode SSS untuk meningkatkan pemahaman siswa berprestasi rendah di sekolah. Subyek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas 1 SMA di Probolinggo. Dua kelas dari mereka ditugaskan sebagai kontrol dan kelompok eksperimen. Kelompok kontrol diajar membaca pemahaman dengan cara konvensional, sedangkan kelompok eksperimen diajar membaca dengan metode membaca ekstensif Metode SSS. Setelah perlakuan kedua kelompok diberikan post test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan dalam pencapaian pemahaman membaca siswa. Para siswa di kelompok eksperimen secara signifikan memperoleh skor lebih tinggi daripada yang di kelompok kontrol. Kesimpulan dari temuan penelitian adalah bahwa siswa berprestasi rendah tahun pertama SMAI NURUS SALAFIYAH Probolinggo yang diajar dengan membaca ekstensif METODE SSS memiliki kemampuan pemahaman membaca yang lebih baik daripada siswa yang diajar membaca dengan cara konvensional. Secara umum, memaparkan siswa pada kegiatan membaca ekstensif METODE SSS dapat secara efektif meningkatkan prestasi pemahaman membaca mereka.

Abstract

The current article discusses English for young learner (EYL) teacher's challenges on professional development (PD) and divides the issues into three parts. The study is based on the experiences of EYL teachers' challenge on PD in teaching English. The article starts by discussing the conceptualization of PD. Next, it delves into model, benefit and characteristics of effective PD. The last part discusses EYL teachers' challenges on PD and its implication. This study has contributed to the research field by providing in-depth insights into Indonesian EYL teachers' challenges on PD. The findings from this study raise EYL teachers' awareness of their own challenges on PD. This article provides a theoretical basis for understanding the flux and the dynamic nature of EYL teachers' challenge on PD for further research. Finally, this paper discusses the limitations of this study and provides suggestions for future research.

Abstract

This research investigates the challenges and opportunities presented by the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in English classes. Adopting a qualitative study approach, data were meticulously collected through in-depth interviews with English teachers, classroom observations, and the analysis of relevant documents. The findings reveal that AI holds significant promise for enhancing the learning experience, primarily through personalized material, automatic feedback, and enriched engagement for students. Moreover, AI tools like chatbots and translation software can aid learners in developing their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills independently. However, the research also identified several challenges, including inadequate technological infrastructure, insufficient digital literacy among educators, and critical concerns regarding the ethics and privacy of student data. The study concludes that for AI to be successfully integrated into English classes, comprehensive training for teachers, supportive policies, and a tailored technological approach that addresses local needs are essential. Ultimately, when these challenges are strategically addressed, AI has the potential to serve as a catalyst for more effective and inclusive English learning. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the awareness of the community in Bulu village, Kraksaan, towards the importance of English reading skills in children. This research uses qualitative methods with instruments of questionnaires, documentation, and questions involving 10 parents and 15 children in Bulu village. The results of the analysis show that most people understand the importance of English reading skills, but some parents still do not realize the importance of English education in everyday life. In addition, children in Bulu village also lack motivation about the importance of English education due to the lack of support from parents and the surrounding community. Therefore, community awareness is very important to help the development of children English reading skills. This research has implications for the importance of increasing community awareness and support from parents and the surrounding community in improving children's English reading skills.

Abstract

  This research seeks to examine the implementation of the use of visual aids in Hello English application in developing students' English vocabulary at SMP N 2 Gading. Visual aids, such as images, icons, and animations, function as interactive learning media that help students understand and remember vocabulary more effectively. This research employs a descriptive approach using a qualitative method. Data were obtained using observation, interviews, and questionnaires. Researchers use a qualitative approach because this approach primarily focuses on exploring the questions of why and how, and highlights comprehensive studies to uncover the truth. The entire process of this study shows that the use of visual aid-based applications not only makes students more focused and interested, but also creates a more enjoyable, effective, and involving learning experience for all parties. With an interactive atmosphere, students not only receive information, but also actively process and apply newly learned vocabulary

Abstract

The recent article intends to describe the application of grammatical cohesive devices on the articles of Bog-Bog Bali Cartoon Magazine and to figure out the effect of grammatical cohesive devices on text to be coherent and unified. The article uses library research with collected from written texts. The data are qualitative data taken from Bog-Bog Bali Cartoon Magazine which were published in 2003. The articles are written texts. The Text is realized by 38 ranks (non-embedded) clauses and 6 ranks shifted (embedded) clauses. There is also cohesion between elements in each text of Bog-Bog Bali Magazine. The use of reference such as personal (e.g., we, us, their, them, it, etc), demonstrative reference (one, the, that, this), comparative reference which shows degree of comparison (e.g., same, finest, most, latest) is often used in the articles. In fact, text one consists of 37 elements of anaphoric reference, 7 elements of cataphoric reference and 7 elements of exophoric reference. . In summary, it reveals that grammatical cohesive can make the text coherent and unified.
