The application of language model based on artificial intelligence, like a ChatGPT, as a self-learning tool is one of the most recent innovations garnering attention in the rapidly evolving field of technology-assisted English language learning. The objective of the study on the application of ChatGPT as a self-directed learning resource for university students studying the English language encompasses: evaluating the effectiveness of ChatGPT in improving English language skill, assessing its impact in accelerating material comprehension, identifying challenges faced by students, and analyzing their motivations and experiences. Conducted as a qualitative research using thematic analysis. Data collection involved steps of data coding, theme categorization, and interpretation of result that describe students experience and views. In conclusion, university students can benefit greatly from using ChatGPT as a self-learning tool for English language acquisition.

This study explores the use of speech-recognition technology to improve English pronunciation among eleventh-grade students at Miftahul Ulum Islamic Senior High School. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis. Thematic analysis revealed five key findings: (1) improved segmental pronunciation accuracy, (2) increased student motivation and engagement, (3) challenges with accent recognition, (4) limited support for fluency and natural speech, and (5) a need for more personalized feedback. While the technology effectively corrected individual pronunciation errors and boosted learners’ confidence, its limitations in recognizing regional accents and supporting sentence-level fluency suggest the need for a more integrated instructional approach. The study recommends using speech-recognition tools as supplementary aids, combined with communicative activities such as group discussions or role-play. These findings offer important insights into technology-enhanced language learning in the Indonesian EFL context and highlight the need for more adaptive, linguistically inclusive speech-recognition systems.

The TOEFL ITP, or English Language competency Test, is an international language assessment tool used to gauge a speaker's English language competency if it is not their mother tongue. The goal of the TOEFL ITP workshop was to increase the students' understanding of international Standard English language tests among those attending Nahdlatul Ulama Vocational High School in Bantaran Probolinggo. Students from the Nahdlatul Ulama Vocational High School on the banks of Probolinggo who participated in extracurricular English activities made up the workshop participants. The target audience was chosen with the knowledge that students' TOEFL ITP abilities were lacking. Thirty students who participated in the extracurricular English program came to this event. The approach taken for this community service project is a two-month workshop and help with different English language questions from the TOEFL ITP exam, which includes the hearing part, written expression, structure, and reading comprehension. Many students improved their scores from before to after this program and demonstrated mastery of the material covered in the international standardized English test. The Nahdhatul Ulama Bantaran Probolinggo vocational high school students who were getting ready to enter the workforce were greatly impacted by this exercise.

This qualitative study investigates the role of the AI-powered writing assistant QuillBot in enhancing the writing skills of secondary-level English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students in Indonesia. Twenty participants engaged with QuillBot over an eight-week period during writing assignments. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analysis of pre- and post-intervention writing samples. The findings indicate that QuillBot contributed significantly to improvements in grammar, sentence structure, and vocabulary usage. Non-native English speakers, in particular, demonstrated notable gains in mechanical accuracy and lexical variety. However, the tool's limitations became apparent in areas requiring higher-order thinking, such as content development, coherence, and creativity. A subset of students expressed concern about over-reliance on the tool, reporting decreased confidence when writing independently and a perceived loss of personal voice in their work. Engagement was initially high but declined over time, suggesting the novelty of AI feedback may diminish without sustained pedagogical scaffolding. The study highlights the dual potential of AI writing tools to support surface-level writing improvements while risking dependence and reduced autonomy. Implications include the need for balanced instructional approaches that combine AI feedback with human guidance to preserve critical thinking and authorial identity. Recommendations for future research include longitudinal studies and hybrid models integrating teacher- and AI-mediated feedback.

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to determine the application of the industrial revolution 4.0 carried out in teaching and learning activities and to find out what challenges were faced by students of the Al-Qolam Islamic Institute of Malang. This research uses descriptive qualitative research. The subjects of this study were 7 lecturers and 12 students of the Tarbiyah Faculty of IAI Al-Qolam Malang. The data was taken from a questionnaire consisting of 8 questions with 2 choices, namely no and yes to determine the readiness of lecturers and students in facing the challenges of the industrial revolution 4.0. Based on the results of the study, it can be said that lecturers have a positive view of lecturers and students in facing the challenges of industry 4.0 at the Al-Qolam Islamic Institute. However, there are still obstacles and challenges faced by lecturers and students in learning in the era of the industrial revolution 4.0 at the Al-Qolam Islamic Institute. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of the Two Stay Two Stray (TSTS) technique in improving students’ speaking skills at junior high school. The background of this research is based on the fact that speaking is often the most challenging aspect of English language learning, as students tend to fear making mistakes and lack self-confidence. This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design involving an experimental group and a control group. The instruments used were speaking tests, observation, and documentation. Data analysis using the t-test revealed a significant difference between students taught using the TSTS technique and those who were not. The findings indicate that the TSTS technique is effective in enhancing students' speaking skills, as it promotes active interaction, idea exchange, and increased confidence. The implications of this study suggest that teachers are encouraged to integrate the TSTS technique in speaking instruction to create a more communicative and participatory learning environment.

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of using the artificial intelligence (AI)-based application Duolingo in improving the English language skills of grade X A students at Madrasah Aliyah Darut Tauhid. This study used a descriptive method involving 29 students as samples. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and questionnaires which were analyzed using descriptive analysis for qualitative data and simple statistical analysis for quantitative data. The results showed that the use of Duolingo significantly helped students improve their vocabulary and speaking skills, as revealed through interviews. Observations showed consistent usage patterns, with effective study duration several times a week. Analysis of questionnaire data revealed that students showed high enthusiasm, found the app effective, were motivated and engaged in learning. Nonetheless, students also identified advantages and disadvantages of the app, including limitations of features that do not fully support productive skills such as speaking. This research makes an important contribution to the literature related to AI-based learning and educational practice, by emphasizing the need for integration of apps like Duolingo into the curriculum to increase student motivation and engagement. However, this study has limitations in terms of population coverage, study duration, and perceptual measurement.

As one of the most popular social media platforms in the world, Instagram has evolved into a language learning tool through innovative features such as Instagram Reels. This study looks at several factors, such as the frequency of Instagram usage, the type of content consumed, and the way students use Instagram Reels to improve their English vocabulary. This study used a qualitative method by collecting Data through questionnaires provided to ten students from the English Education Study Program of Zainul Hasan University Genggong. The results of the study showed that the attractive and contextualized format of Instagram Reels significantly improved vocabulary acquisition. Instagram can be an effective educational tool, but it requires a planned strategy to maximize its benefits for students.

A huge number of studies on reading strategies have been carried out in relation to reading proficiency levels. The conflicting findings and rarity of studies concerning the use of reading comprehension strategies in English testing become the impetus to conduct a further study on reading comprehension strategies issues. The recent research aims to delve into Indonesian pre-service English teachers' reading strategies and how these reading strategies enhance their reading comprehension on IELTS. This study employs a narrative study and uses in-depth semi-structured interviews to collect the data. There are six Indonesian pre-service English teachers involved as research participants, and they were periodically interviewed for adequate data regarding their reading comprehension strategies. The follow-up interview was performed throughout data collection until data saturation was achieved, and the data were then analyzed qualitatively by transcribing, coding, categorizing, and thematizing to find out the emerging themes concerning reading comprehension strategy. The results reveal that there are four themes, namely vocabulary mastery, activating background knowledge, test-taking strategies, and appropriate institutional policies. The results of this study can be used as a reference to foster reading comprehension on IELTS. Suggestion for further research is discussed at the end of this research.

This research investigates the influence of artificial intelligence (AI) on English language instruction in higher education, exploring both its potential benefits and challenges. A mixed-method approach was utilized, integrating survey data with in-depth interviews. The questionnaire was distributed via Google Forms through WhatsApp groups and personal networks to English lecturers. The study involved 16 English lecturers from both public and private universities in East Java. Analyzing the survey responses and interview transcripts revealed that AI technology presents both opportunities and obstacles in English language education. AI has brought significant changes to English instruction at the university level, with lecturers employing various AI tools for tasks such as generating and responding to questions, assessing grammatical accuracy, detecting plagiarism, paraphrasing, and conducting literature reviews. This research also underscores AI’s benefits in language education, particularly in grammar correction and plagiarism detection. However, alongside its advantages, AI also introduces new challenges for the future of English teaching. The effective integration of AI necessitates strong digital literacy skills. As AI technology continues to develop, there is a possibility that certain aspects of English teaching may become automated. Consequently, English lecturers need to continuously refine their digital skills to maintain their relevance in the evolving educational landscape.
