Abstract

In order to improve the quality of students in welcoming the world of education in the era of society 5.0, the Lecturer Team held a service activity by conducting training in making innovative teaching media. The purpose of this service activity for students is to provide knowledge and skills to make innovative media that are useful in science learning. The problem faced is the lack of understanding of prospective science teacher students in finding ideas about innovative media that are useful today. This training was held with 56 students participating. The methods used were: lectures, discussions and sharing, as well as guidance on making innovative learning media. The results of the service activities are that students are able to make innovative learning media in the form of utilizing applications and media products.

Abstract

Schools are required to implement the independent learning curriculum. This curriculum provides an open space for children to explore and express their interest in learning so that in the future children will have a good spirit of competence and good characteristics. The application of technology in schools is very suitable for the context of independent learning. One of the problems experienced by schools is that they have not utilized technology such as microcontrollers in the teaching and learning process. This community service program is implemented through 3 stages, namely the preparation, implementation, and evaluation stages. In the preparation stage, observations and interviews were carried out. At the program implementation stage, the teaching and learning process is carried out using a project-based learning model. The evaluation stage is carried out during the service activity process and afterwards. During the process, students are evaluated. Based on the results of the implementation of activities, it is known at MA YPKP Sentani that the implementation of the independent learning program using a project-based learning model that utilizes microcontroller-based sensors has gone well. It is hoped that the results of this activity can become a benchmark for the development of the learning process as targeted by the activity objectives.

Abstract

This community service program aims to enhance technological literacy and strengthen STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education at SMA Pembangunan V Yapis Waena, Papua, through the introduction of sensor technology based on the Arduino Uno microcontroller integrated with local wisdom. The program addresses key challenges, including limited access to technology, insufficient integration of local contexts into learning, and the lack of students’ hands-on experience in environmental monitoring. The activities were conducted through teacher training, project-based learning, and community collaboration over one semester. The implementation results showed a significant increase in students’ technological literacy and STEM competence, with an average improvement of 30% in conceptual understanding, 60% in programming skills, and 35% in scientific collaboration. Teachers demonstrated greater confidence in utilizing Arduino devices and developing digital learning materials. The program’s outputs include a contextual learning module based on Arduino, simple environmental monitoring prototypes, and a student project exhibition involving the local community. The program has generated measurable impacts, such as improved environmental awareness, stronger collaboration between schools and communities, and the establishment of a locally integrated STEM learning model that can be replicated in other schools across Papua.
