Abstract

Counseling activities and waist circumference screening in the context of early detection of obesity in male students aim to increase awareness of the importance of maintaining health and preventing obesity among male students. This activity was carried out using a combination approach between counseling and waist circumference screening. The counseling was conducted to provide a better understanding of the risk of obesity and the importance of measuring waist circumference as an indicator of health. Boys were given information about the negative impact of obesity on physical and psychological health, as well as the importance of a healthy lifestyle and a balanced diet. In addition to counseling, this activity also involves screening waist circumference as a method for early detection of the risk of obesity. Boys' waist circumference was measured using a measuring tape, and the measurement results were compared with a predetermined reference standard. This helps identify students who are in the waist circumference range who are at risk and require further follow-up in obesity prevention and management. The results of this activity show that male students need to understand the importance of maintaining health and managing their weight well. Waist circumference screening provides useful information in evaluating the risk of obesity in male students. In efforts to prevent and control obesity, collaboration between families, educators and medical personnel is very important to provide the necessary support, understanding and guidance

Abstract

ABSTRACT Diabetes, as a global disease, continues to increase worldwide without being limited by location. The burden of diabetes in the elderly population is a significant health issue. Peripheral neuropathy caused by diabetes is strongly associated with physical limitations in older individuals. This cross-sectional study aims to determine the characteristics of peripheral neuropathy in participants who meet the criteria, using a total sampling at Santa Anna on July 15, 2023, and explore its correlation with blood sugar levels. Evaluation of sensory and motor clinical symptoms using Neuropathy Symptom Score (NSS) questionnaire. Abnormal reflexes and sensory function were assessed using Neuropathy Deficit Score (NDS) questionnaire. Blood sugar levels were measured using POCT method following standard procedures. Statistical analysis using the Kruskall Wallis test. Out of the 68 participants, the average age was 74.06 years, with 67.6% of the participants being female. The overall average blood sugar level was found to be 115.82 mg/dL. Based on the NSS and NDS classifications, 8.8% and 23.5% of the total participants were categorized as having severe symptoms, respectively. The statistical analysis revealed a significant difference in mean blood sugar levels between the NSS groups (p-value: 0.003). However, no significant difference was observed in mean blood glucose levels between the NDS groups (p-value: 0.264). Clinically, the severe symptom group had a higher median blood glucose level compared to the normal group. It is noteworthy that elevated transient blood sugar levels tend to impact the subjective symptoms (NSS) of peripheral neuropathy earlier than the objective symptoms (NDS). Keywords: Blood Glucose, Clinical Symptom, Peripheral Neuropathy  ABSTRAK Sebagai penyakit yang tersebar di seluruh dunia, diabetes terus berkembang tanpa memandang tempat dengan jumlah pasien yang semakin meningkat.

Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension is one of the most common diseases in the world, and its increasing every year. Age is one of many risk factors in hypertension. As we get older, our blood vessels tend to lose some of their elasticity and become stiffer. This can put us at risk for developing high blood pressure, also known as hypertension. It's important to take care of our cardiovascular health as we age to reduce the risk of developing this condition.Purpose: To study the correlation between blood pressure and age.Method: This was a descriptive study conducted in Cipondoh Makmur, Tangerang. The non-random consecutive sampling was used as the sampling technique, and it will be presented as descriptive data. Spearman correlation tests were used to correlate blood pressure and age if the data distribution is not normal.Result: There were 103 individuals who met the criteria, with an average age of 51.71 (12.80) years, mean systolic blood pressure of 126.2 (22.25) mmHg, and mean diastolic blood pressure of 74.46 (11.49) mmHg. A significant correlation between age and systolic blood pressure was observed (p-value: 0.001; r: 0.323, indicating a weak association), while no significant correlation was found between age and diastolic blood pressure. Conclusion: The physiological aging process is an unavoidable risk factor for hypertension. It is crucial to Increase awareness about the importance of a healthy lifestyle and optimal hypertension control.

Abstract

Abstract

Depression is a common mental disorder in the elderly, associated with emotional distress, increased health care costs, the risk of suicide, and death from other causes. Depression in the elderly is characterised by persistent sadness, helplessness, anhedonia, changes in appetite, sleep disturbances, psychomotor retardation or agitation, fatigue, impaired concentration, and suicidal ideation. Prevalence varies between 7 and 30%, higher in women. Risk factors include bereavement, social isolation, and somatic diseases, which are more common in old age. Depression increases the risk of dementia, morbidity, and mortality, emphasising the need for early screening. This activity uses the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) method to screen for depression in 61 elderly participants at the Hana Nursing Home using the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) questionnaire. The examination results revealed mild, moderate, and severe depression in 8 people (13.11%), 4 people (6.56%), and 2 people (3.28%), respectively. Early detection using GDS is essential for timely intervention, including counselling and medical advice, to improve quality of life and reduce depression-related morbidity and mortality in the elderly population.

Abstract

Anemia is a common hematological condition characterized by decreased hemoglobin levels or red blood cell counts, which affects the blood's capacity to transport oxygen throughout the body. In the elderly, anemia has a significant impact on health, such as decreased physical function, increased risk of falls, cognitive impairment, and increased health care costs. The global prevalence of anemia in the elderly is quite high, ranging from 5–10% at the age of 65–70 years and increasing to 15–25% at the age of over 80 years. The Community Service Program (PKM) at Panti Werdha Hana aims to increase awareness of the elderly regarding the importance of early detection of anemia. This activity uses the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) method, where hemoglobin and hematocrit levels are measured, and educational materials are provided regarding anemia and its risk factors. Respondents who have hemoglobin levels below normal are advised to seek further medical consultation. The results showed that 34 people (44.74%) had anemia and 42 people (55.26%) had normal hemoglobin levels. Early detection of anemia through hemoglobin and hematocrit examination is an important step in reducing the risk of more severe complications, so that it can improve the quality of life of the elderly..
