Abstract

The Internal Partnership Program (PKMI) for faculty service is conducted in Warambe Village, Parigi District, Muna Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, with the target audience being the Labotoro Farmers Group. The issues encountered by the farmers' group include poor soil fertility, specifically low-quality land, and a lack of knowledge regarding the production of organic fertilizers based on secondary vegetation. Additionally, there is a significant amount of agricultural waste and secondary vegetation available, but they have not been maximally utilized as raw materials for enhancing soil fertility and as a nutrient source for corn plants due to a lack of knowledge in this area. The proposed solution and targets are to provide technical guidance and demonstrate the production of organic fertilizers for soil fertility enhancement, as well as to transfer this technological innovation to the farmers. The dissemination and adoption process of this technology is expected to increase farmers' income through increased production of yellow corn crops. The results obtained from the provided solution include an 85% increase in the understanding and knowledge of the members of the farmers' group regarding the utilization of secondary vegetation for organic fertilizer and soil fertility enhancement in their corn fields. The technology of utilizing secondary vegetation has not been previously implemented by the partner group, so this activity has contributed to the farmers' knowledge and skills in improving land productivity, especially within the Labotoro Farmers Group

Abstract

The soil quality of Ultisol, which is indicated by its chemical properties, arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), and root nodules, is important for soybean growth. Cogongrass biochar enriched with N fertilizer solution using solvent from seaweed extract can change the soil quality. Using various seaweed extract solvents, this study sought to (i) test the impact of cogongrass biochar enriched with N fertilizer solution on the soil chemical quality and (ii) examine the effects of soil chemical changes on AMF, root nodules, tissue nutrient content, and soybean yield. The treatments consisted of (i) without biochar (B0), (ii) cogongrass biochar without enrichment (BN0), (iii) cogongrass biochar enriched with urea solution using solvent from extract of Kappapychus alvarezii (BNK), (iv) cogongrass biochar enriched with urea solution using solvent from extract of Sargassum sp. (BNS), and (v) cogongrass biochar enriched with urea solution using solvent extract of Ulva lactuca (BNU). In a randomized block design, each treatment was carried out three times. With or without fertilization, cogongrass biochar improves the chemical fertility of the soil. The increase in NH4+-N and nitrate-N content of the soil in enriched cogongrass biochar was greater than in unenriched. The AMF spores density and root nodules were reduced following enrichment. When biochar was added, there were more pods, pod dry weight, total seeds, and regular seeds per plant. In conclusion, the impact of increasing soil ammonium content led to decreased density of AMF spores, root infections, and root nodules. The level of available P greatly affected the components of soybean yield in Ultisol.

Abstract

Bacterial leaf blight caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo) is an important rice disease, and has caused significant economic losses.  This research aimed to determine the pathotype grouping and the distribution of Xoo isolates of South and Southeast  Sulawesi. In order to obtain the information, 61 Xoo isolates of South Sulawesi and 29 isolates of Southeast Sulawesi were evaluated for their pathotype grouping against 5 diffential varieties. Research results showed that in South Sulawesi there were 2 pathotype groups, namely pathotype IV (32.79%) and pathotype VIII(67.21%).  Pathotype VIII was widely distributed over the Western and Central areas of South Sulawesi, whereas pathotype IV was widely distributed over the Southern area.  In Southeast Sulawesi, it was found 5 pathotypes, namely pathotypes IV (27.58%), VI (10.34%), VIII (13.79%), IX (20.68%), and X (27.58%), with a limited and scattered distribution pattern on several areas. These results indicate that  Xoo pathotype groups in South Sulawesi and Southeast Sulawesi are varied and tend to sift to more virulent pathotypes. Keywords: bacterial leaf blight, pathotype group, Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae
