Abstract

Technology integration in classroom has become an important component for pre-service teachers in Teaching Practice Program (TPP). This situation makes technology become a basic need for instructors and also the students. The objective of this study is to identify the readiness of pre-service teachers in implementing technology in teaching and learning activities in the classroom. The method used in this study was qualitative research. Participants of the study were 50 pre-service teachers in Magelang and Temanggung Regencies, Central Java, Indonesia. The data were gathered using observation, questionnaires, and interviews. The results showed that most of the pre-service teachers were ready to face the challenges of applying technology in their classroom. Most of them have recognized the applications, software, and websites that can be integrated to the teaching and learning activities such as Slides, PowerPoint, Prezi, PowToon, and Canva. Moreover, most of students are familiar with and are even accustomed to using modern and complex applications that support teachers to improve students' English language skills such as Google Classroom, WhatsApp, WebEx Cisco, Google Meet, and Zoom. However, it is still very much needed so that students can integrate these applications into effective and meaningful learning.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the influence of the use of English as a language of daily communication on the erosion of Indonesian as a lingua franca, by considering various sociolinguistic and cultural factors. Indonesian is the national language used by Indonesian people to this day. However, the use of Indonesian seems to be starting to be eroded by the use of English which is recently frequently used, especially by teenagers. This raises growing concerns about its potential impact on the erosion of Indonesian, the lingua franca. This study involves the theory of extensive utilization of the English language in various fields and its current status as a global or international language. The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative. Qualitative data were collected through surveys, online forms, and focus group discussions with individuals representing different linguistic backgrounds and levels of English proficiency. The results of this research showed that 96.2% of respondents always use English as their daily language in communication. Apart from that, the use of English had an impact on the use of Indonesian when having a conversation. Researchers also found that even though respondents knew Indonesian as a lingua franca, in fact they used English more by 51.9%. Therefore, this research also seeks to provide input for language planning and language policy making which aims to maintain the national language and preserve the role of Indonesian as an important communication tool in Indonesian society.

Abstract

Film Laskar Pelangi merupakan salah satu film adaptasi bertemakan pendidikan yang populer di Indonesia. Untuk itu banyak pesan yang dapat diambil dari film “Laskar Pelangi” tersebut, pesan tersebut dapat kita ambil dari beberapa aspek, salah satunya adalah menggunakan tinjauan semiotik. Tujuan pembuatan artikel ini adalah untuk mengkaji pesan yang terkandung dalam film “Laskar Pelangi 1” berfokus pada elemen semiotik dengan mengurai tanda-tanda, simbol, dan makna dalam konteks film guna menyoroti makna yang mungkin terlewatkan. Kajian ini menggunakan studi literatur. Penulis melakukan analisis secara mendalam terhadap konteks sejarah dan budaya dalam film untuk memahami penggunaan semiotik dalam konteks yang lebih luas lagi. Teknik pengumpulan data melibatkan penelusuran elemen semiotik yang didapatkan langsung dari film dengan didukung oleh studi literatur yang terkait dengan teori semiotik dan studi literatur film. Hasil dari kajian artikel ini adalah film "Laskar Pelangi" menunjukkan bahwa film ini memanfaatkan berbagai simbol dengan makna masing-masing yang dapat ditinjau secara semiotik. Kesimpulan yang dapat diambil yaitu film "Laskar Pelangi 1" dengan tinjauan semiotik mengungkapkan keragaman simbol yang masing-masing membawa makna penting serta memikat penonton melalui penggunaan simbolisme yang dalam dan bermakna. Kata Kunci: Film, Laskar Pelangi, Semiotika.

Abstract

Setiap orang menggunakan keterampilan berbicara ketika mereka ingin berkomunikasi dengan orang lain, jadi berbicara merupakan komponen penting dalam berkomunikasi. Salah satu masalah yang paling umum adalah bahwa mahasiswa terkadang kurang lancar dalam berbicara, terlebih lagi jika harus menggunakan bahasa Inggris yang berasal dari paparan bahasa secara teratur di kelas. Hal yang lainnya adalah bahwa mahasiswa sering terlihat merencanakan percakapan mereka sebelumnya. Yang ketiga adalah siswa kurang memiliki kosa kata yang memadai dan kesulitan mengucapkan kata-kata dengan benar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pandangan siswa terhadap percakapan duet konten yang terdapat pada aplikasi TikTok. Peneliti menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dan kuesioner sebagai instrumen untuk mengumpulkan dan menganalisis data. Peneliti menemukan bahwa 86,7% responden setuju bahwa percakapan duet konten membuat mereka lebih fasih dalam berbicara. Dari penelitian tersebut, peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa percakapan duet konten di aplikasi TikTok dapat menjadi salah satu cara yang sangat efektif untuk berlatih berbicara. Latihan berbicara menggunakan percakapan duet konten dapat meningkatkan pengucapan dan membantu siswa menjadi lebih lancar dalam berbicara. Namun, masih ditemukan beberapa kesulitan seperti adanya kata-kata asing yang mempengaruhi siswa sehingga kehabisan waktu saat melakukan percakapan duet konten.

Abstract

The research focuses on the impact of infographics as a tool for English learning trough student’s perceptions. The purpose of this research is to identify the positive impact of using infographics for students' learning and teaching activities in the classroom and also the appropriate learning media by educators. The researchers used qualitative research methods in analyzing the data that was collected. The instrument of the research was a questionnaire that consists of questions and statements that must be filled in by the elected respondents. The questionnaire was targeted to students of Universitas Tidar, especially the student of the English Education Department study program in the second and fourth semesters. There were many as 41 participants as a sample in this study. The results of this study show that based on the students' experience of knowing and using infographics in the learning activity, most of them agree that the use of infographics as learning media has a very positive impact. Infographics are also the suitable medium to improve students' quality in understanding the material and their interest in learning.

Abstract

The pandemic forced students to study from home, resulting in a lack of direct interaction with teachers. When students returned to school, teachers had to start guiding them from scratch using various teaching strategies. These strategies included discussion and self-monitoring. The purpose of the study was to find out the significant difference of self-monitoring strategies on the students' narrative text speaking ability. A quasi-experimental design was used, with the experimental group receiving the self-monitoring strategy and the control group using discussion strategy. The researchers conducted a study at SMPN 4 Magelang, Central Java. The result of the study showed that there was no significant difference between using self-monitoring strategies and using discussion strategies on students' narrative text speaking ability. However, the self-monitoring strategy had positive effects, such as increasing confidence and reducing fear of speaking in English. The researchers hope others will build on this study to evaluate speaking ability in different academic fields.

Abstract

The learner's strategy in learning a language is one of the things that we must pay attention to, especially in learning a new language such as English. For students of English education who study English, they are usually given specific strategies starting from the classroom to everyday life. However, it is different from a student's non-English department. They must have their own perspective to learn English which they must know and understand for their own benefit. Both the English and non-English departments must have perspectives and strategies that match their criteria. This research aims to prove the presence of the different strategies they used. The method used in this study was descriptive qualitative. The researchers used a questionnaire as their instrument with a total of 32 participants. The finding underlines the two things: the difficulties and the strategies. The difficulties commonly faced by students of non-English department because they realized that English is important but they don’t use English as their everyday life. Thus, it is considered difficult to be practiced. Meanwhile, there were strategic factors used by students both internal factors, self-taught learning using social media, and external factors such as courses. This research gives valuable to the teachers who want to teach their students especially for the learner’s non-English department

Abstract

The events of the new order and reformation in the novel The Sea Speaks His Name are one of the events that are interesting to explore further about reality that occurred at that time. The objectives of this research are 1) comparing the events in literary works with actual events, 2) identifying political issues in the new order and reformation, 3) analyzing the fighting value of the main character. The research method used is qualitative with a mimetic approach. The results of this research are that the events and issues in this novel are imitations of the reality of the new order and reformation era. In addition, the two main characters have fighting values that can be implemented in the real world.

Abstract

Bunga mawar dapat diolah menjadi selai, tujuan kreasi pengelolaan bunga mawar menjadi selai di Desa Munengwarangan diantaranya yakni untuk mengembangkan potensi lokal Desa Munengwarangan. Dalam pengabdian yang berjudul Pendampingan Pengolahan Bunga Mawar Sebagai Selai Di Desa Munengwarangan ini menggunakan metode observasi lapangan dan pendampingan dalam pengolahan bunga mawar menjadi selai. Kreasi pengolahan bunga mawar menjadi selai di Desa Munengwarangan adalah contoh nyata bagaimana produk bernilai tambah dapat dihasilkan dari bahan-bahan lokal yang mungkin sebelumnya belum dimanfaatkan sepenuhnya. Selain memberikan peluang ekonomi, pengolahan bunga mawar menjadi selai juga mengangkat potensi kuliner daerah serta memberikan pilihan unik bagi konsumen. Produk selai bunga mawar dapat dijual secara lokal atau dijual secara online melalui platform e-commerce, menjangkau pasar yang lebih luas. Dengan demikian, pendapatan masyarakat Desa Munengwarangan dapat meningkat, dan peluang kerja di sektor pengolahan makanan juga dapat berkembang.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the use of Padlet to enhance writing skills among university students. To achieve this, the authors use qualitative research involving questionnaires and interviews with 6th-semester English Education students at Universitas Tidar. For data analysis, the authors briefly make interpretations and conclusions based on the answers from the questionnaire and interviews. The findings reveal that Padlet facilitates improved writing by enabling real-time feedback and peer interaction. Students reported better organization and creativity in their writing tasks. Students also found Padlet to be enjoyable to use, with many interactive features that enhance the writing experience. Despite some challenges with its basic writing format, Padlet proved effective for non-academic writing. However, its efficacy for academic writing requires further investigation.
