Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to analyze market efficiency and the transmission of micro-volatility between the Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) and the Jakarta Islamic Index (JII) using high-frequency data from September 22 to October 20, 2025. The primary objective is to evaluate the volatility of returns, co-movement, microstructure volatility clustering, and the buffering effect of Sharia-compliant indices. Methods: The study uses logarithmic continuous returns to assess return volatility and co-movement. Descriptive statistics are employed to examine market fluctuations, while the volatility clustering effect and rapid shock transmission between the two indices are analyzed. Pre-test and post-test evaluations, along with observational analysis, are used to examine the relationship and behavior of these indices during the study period. Results: The findings reveal that both IHSG and JII exhibit significant short-term fluctuations, indicative of typical micro-volatility in emerging markets. However, JII shows relatively lower volatility and fewer extreme negative returns, suggesting that Sharia screening provides a stabilizing effect on the market. The study also identifies a strong co-movement between the two indices, highlighting high short-term integration despite brief divergences due to differences in index structure and liquidity profiles. Additionally, the analysis confirms volatility clustering, with calm periods followed by sharp movements, and rapid shock transmission between the indices.

Abstract

Abstract

Purpose: This study examines the resilience of the Islamic economic system in responding to global financial crises by analyzing its core principles, including the prohibition of riba, profit-and-loss sharing, asset-backed financing, and zakat-based redistribution. Method: This research employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) guided by the PRISMA 2020 protocol. Boolean search strings were applied to Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar, yielding 140 records, which were refined through identification, screening, eligibility, and inclusion stages into 25 final sources. The study also applies a structured cross-country comparative analysis of Malaysia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Türkiye using macroeconomic and financial stability indicators, including capital adequacy, non-performing financing/loans, credit growth, GDP volatility, and Islamic finance market share. Results: The findings indicate that Islamic financial institutions tend to demonstrate relatively stronger resilience during crisis periods due to risk-sharing mechanisms, asset-backed financing, and restrictions on speculative transactions. However, the effectiveness of this resilience depends on institutional governance, regulatory quality, and Shari’ah supervision. Implications: This study provides insights for regulators and Islamic financial institutions in strengthening governance, harmonizing Shari’ah standards, and developing substantive Islamic financial instruments. Originality: The study integrates a PRISMA-based SLR with indicator-based cross-country comparative analysis to examine Islamic economic resilience.

Abstract

Background: The global economy in 2026 faces increasingly complex challenges, ranging from trade fragmentation to geopolitical tensions that trigger commodity price volatility. In facing these dynamics, the Indonesian Government, through the 2026 Macroeconomic Framework and Main Fiscal Policy Principles (KEM-PPKF), positions the State Budget (APBN) as the main shock absorber to maintain macroeconomic stability. This research aims to elaborate on the strategic role of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan as a fiscal instrument in ensuring the stability of workers' welfare in Indonesia. Method: Using a qualitative approach and literature review, this analysis explores how social security can function as an automatic stabilizer that supports national economic resilience Results: The findings show that BPJS Ketenagakerjaan has evolved into a major pillar of social protection. However, significant structural challenges remain in reaching informal sector workers and achieving closer policy synchronization between the social security system and the national fiscal agenda. Conclusion: The study concludes that the integration of social security into the national fiscal strategy is urgently needed to transform the paradigm of social protection from a cost burden into a strategic investment that supports inclusive and sustainable economic resilience.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the impact of inflation, exchange rates, and world oil prices on the Islamic stock price index in the Jakarta Islamic Index (JII) from 2015 to 2025. The research method used is a quantitative method with a multiple linear regression model, and the data source is secondary data obtained from the official websites of BPS and IDX. The data analysis techniques used are classical assumption tests, multiple linear regression tests, and hypothesis tests. Based on the data analysis results, inflation has a positive and insignificant effect on the JII. The exchange rate has a negative and significant effect on the JII, and world oil prices have a positive and insignificant effect on the JII. Simultaneously, inflation, the exchange rate, and world oil prices influence the JII by 66.2%, while the remaining 33.8% is explained by other variables outside the model. The results of this study imply that investors should pay more attention to exchange rate developments when considering investment decisions in sharia stocks. For the government and relevant authorities, exchange rate stability is one of the factors that need to be considered in maintaining the stability of the sharia capital market.

Abstract

This study examines the determinants of banking risk in People’s Credit Banks (Bank Perkreditan Rakyat/BPR) in North Sumatra, Indonesia. The research aims to analyze the influence of macroeconomic variables on banking risk, proxied by total credit disbursement. The study uses panel data from 53 rural banks during 2015–2024 and applies panel data regression with a Random Effects Model (REM). The independent variables include inflation, interest rates, exchange rates, Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), and the Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG). The findings reveal that interest rates have a negative and significant effect on credit disbursement, indicating that tighter monetary policy reduces lending activity. Conversely, exchange rates and regional economic growth positively and significantly affect lending expansion. Meanwhile, inflation and stock market performance do not significantly influence lending behavior in rural banks. The results imply that macroeconomic stability and regional economic growth are important factors in maintaining the resilience and sustainability of rural banking institutions, particularly in supporting effective financial intermediation in developing economies.

Abstract

The development of digital payment systems has transformed transaction patterns, particularly among Generation Z, who demonstrate high adaptability to digital technology. However, research exploring how Generation Z simultaneously perceives the ease of use, usefulness, security, and risks of digital payment remains limited, particularly among students in Islamic higher education institutions. This study aims to analyze Generation Z's perceptions of digital payment use among students at Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatera Utara (UINSU) Medan, focusing on ease of use, usefulness, security, and perceived risks. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 20 purposively selected student informants who actively use digital payment systems, supported by a questionnaire administered to 100 students to identify general patterns of perception. The qualitative data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while source triangulation was employed to strengthen data validity. The findings indicate that students generally perceive digital payment positively in terms of ease of use and usefulness because it facilitates faster, more practical, and flexible transactions. Although security features such as PINs and one-time passwords (OTPs) provide a sense of protection, students continue to express concerns regarding personal data misuse, digital fraud, and network disruptions. These findings demonstrate that positive perceptions of ease and usefulness do not completely eliminate perceived security risks. Instead, students tend to respond to these risks through precautionary behaviors while continuing to use digital payment systems. The study contributes to the digital payment literature by demonstrating that students' continued use is shaped not only by perceived ease and usefulness but also by their trust in security mechanisms and awareness of digital risks. Digital payment has therefore become an important component of students' daily transactions, although it has not completely replaced cash payments.

Abstract

Indonesia's Islamic banking industry has increasingly adopted Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, raising questions about their relationship with operational efficiency. Yet, this relationship remains underexplored, particularly when ESG is interpreted through the objectives of Islamic law (maqasid al-shari'ah). Drawing on a qualitative case study of PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk (BSI), we examine ESG practices and their association with operational performance. The findings show that ESG implementation coincided with a decline in the Operating Expenses to Operating Income (BOPO) ratio from 80.48% in 2021 to 69.93% in 2024, before rising moderately to 71.57% in 2025 amid substantial investment in digital transformation and sustainability infrastructure. While the study does not infer direct causality, the findings suggest that ESG may support cost discipline, risk management, institutional resilience, and competitiveness. Aligning ESG with maqasid al-shari'ah may therefore strengthen the efficiency, accountability, and sustainability of Islamic banking.

Abstract

THE INFLUENCE OF ISLAMIC WORK ETHIC AND ETHICAL LEADERSHIP ON IMPROVING THE PERFORMANCE OF LAZISMU EMPLOYEES NORTH SUMATRA This study aims to investigate the relationship between Islamic work ethics and ethical leadership with the goal of discovering any synergistic impacts on organisational performance. The study's premise is that moral and religiously grounded leadership principles, as well as the application of ethical standards, can improve the performance of an organization's human resource department. Multiple linear regression analysis was the quantitative tool of choice for the researchers in this investigation. Questionnaires were distributed to the research facility's staff. Instrumental testing made use of validity and reliability tests, while classical assumption testing included heteroscedasticity and multicollinearity. Our hypothesis testing was conducted in SPSS version 27, where the t-test, F-test, and coefficient of determination (R³) were employed. The study's results indicate that partially Islamic work ethics have a positive impact on employee performance, as seen by a computed t-value of 5.411 > 2.036 and a significance level of 0.000 < 0.05. The computed t value of 2.798 > 2.036 and a significance level of 0.009 < 0.05 show that the Ethical Leadership variable has a positive and significant impact on Employee Performance. A computed F value of 49.991 (higher than 3.295) and a significance level of 0.000 (lower than 0.05) suggest that both variables have a substantial effect on Employee Performance. The R2 value of 0.563 indicates that these two factors account for 56.3% of the variation in worker output. This study's findings support the idea that ethical leadership and Islamic principles in the workplace can increase output. Therefore, it is imperative that companies prioritise Islamically-based leadership practices and actively seek to cultivate an Islamic work culture.
