Abstract

Ulee Lheue Port is a major port in Banda Aceh with high human activity, potentially posing environmental health risks if clean water quality and sanitation are not properly managed. The port serves not only as a transit point but also as a public space with intensive interaction between workers and service users. This study aims to assess clean water quality based on physical and chemical parameters, water availability, environmental conditions, and the sanitation adequacy of public facilities. This study used an observational method with a descriptive design. Data collection was conducted through direct observation, water quality measurements, and environmental sanitation and hygiene assessments. Samples were taken at several strategic points: the right lobby restroom, the left lobby restroom, the canteen restroom, and the prayer room. Parameters analyzed included physical aspects (odor, taste, color, turbidity), chemical aspects (pH), clean water availability, fly density, and the sanitation adequacy of public facilities. The results showed that the physical and chemical quality of the water generally met quality standards, with turbidity ranging from 0.10 to 0.55 NTU and a pH of 7, well within the standard range of 6.5 to 8.5. However, all samples did not meet taste standards, as they were identified as bitter and sweet. Clean water availability reached 100%, sourced from drilled wells. The highest fly densities were found in canteens and polling stations (TPS). It was concluded that water quality was relatively good, but sanitation in public facilities remained at risk, necessitating continuous improvement in vector management and control.

Abstract

Generation Z today cannot go a day without gadgets. Over time, Generation Alpha is likely to become similarly preoccupied with gadgets, as they have been influenced by technology since birth and view it as an essential tool for both school and other activities. Excessive gadget use negatively impacts the quantity and quality of sleep. This study employed a cross-sectional design to analyze the relationship between gadget addiction, sleep quality, and academic performance among adolescents in the coastal and mountainous areas of Pidie Regency. The sample consisted of 337 students from Kembang Tanjong High School and 159 students from Tangse High School, selected using a total sampling technique. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test and linear regression. The results showed no significant differences in the average sleep quality and gadget addiction levels between adolescents in coastal and mountainous regions. However, there was a significant difference in the average academic performance between these two groups. Factors associated with sleep quality included age, male gender, mothers’ lower education level, gadget addiction, and anxiety. Meanwhile, factors influencing academic performance were male gender, gadget addiction, social media motives, ease of gadget access, depression, and anxiety. Adolescents are encouraged to reduce gadget usage, as it adversely affects sleep quality and academic performance. They can replace gadget usage with positive activities such as physical exercise, playing sports, socializing with peers, studying together, and other productive activities.

Abstract

COVID-19 is a global pandemic that threatens everyone's health. The increase in confirmed COVID-19 cases continues to occur, including in Aceh Besar Regency. Public health intervention efforts have proven effective in reducing the incidence of COVID-19 and community leaders can be involved in these public health intervention efforts. Public health interventions are expected to cause changes in health behavior, but these behavioral changes require health beliefs. This study is a qualitative study with an exploratory approach to determine the beliefs of community leaders towards COVID-19. The number of informants in this study was 8 community leaders who were selected by purposive sampling. Data collection was carried out by conducting in-depth interviews. Data analysis in this study was carried out before entering the field, while in the field and after finishing in the field. The results of the interviews showed that the health beliefs of community leaders towards COVID-19 were influenced by the sources of information obtained, beliefs about COVID-19, the attitudes of community leaders towards people around them who were infected with COVID-19 and knowledge about the dangerous impacts of COVID-19. Abstract

Bullying is a serious issue that threatens adolescent mental health and shows a high prevalence in Indonesia. This behavior is influenced by various internal and external factors, yet few studies have comprehensively compared bullying tendencies between adolescents in urban and rural settings. Objective: This study aims to analyze the main determinants influencing bullying tendencies among adolescents aged 12–15 years and to examine interregional differences. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was used. A total of 167 students were selected through cluster random sampling from SMP Negeri 1 Banda Aceh and MTsN 6 Montasik. Data were analyzed using logistic regression and multinomial logistic regression tests. The results showed that parenting style, gender, and self-esteem were significantly associated with bullying tendencies. Authoritarian parenting showed the highest influence (Odds Ratio [OR] = 13.78; p = 0.001), followed by permissive parenting (OR = 6.15; p = 0.043), and self-esteem (OR = 8.81; p = 0.001). Gender also contributed, with males having a higher tendency to engage in bullying than females (OR = 2.54; p = 0.085). In contrast, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, nutritional status (BMI), social skills and popularity, and academic achievement showed no statistically significant associations. The study also found that students in MTsN 6 Montasik (rural area) had higher bullying behavior (25.61%) compared to those in SMP Negeri 1 Banda Aceh (urban area) at 12.94%. These findings affirm the importance of appropriate parenting, healthy self-esteem, and sensitivity to gender differences as key elements in bullying prevention efforts.

Abstract

Maternal, infant, and toddler mortality rates remain a serious public health problem in Indonesia. One effort to reduce these rates is by ensuring safe delivery services, both vaginally and through cesarean sections (CS). Although normal delivery is preferred, the trend of cesarean sections has continued to increase in recent decades. Sultan Iskandar Muda Regional Hospital, as a type C hospital in Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh, records an increase in childbirth cases every year. This study aims to analyze the determinants that influence cesarean section procedures at the hospital. This study uses an explanatory sequential design. This type of quantitative research with a cross-sectional design was conducted using patient medical records. The population is all data on mothers who gave birth by cesarean section at Sultan Iskandar Muda Regional Hospital, taken within a 3-month period, namely October - December 2024, a total of 324 mothers giving birth by cesarean section. The sampling method used the total population with a sample size of 324 respondents. While qualitative research with a phenomenological approach, conducted by interview using interview guidelines, the method of collecting informants using purposive sampling with a total of 7 informants. The results of quantitative research show that the most dominant relationship between cesarean section is prolonged labor (OR: 701.40; 95%CI: 98.02-5019.20; p value: 0.0001), the occurrence of PEB (OR=446.33; 95%CI=21.62-9214.06; p=0.0001) and term birth (OR=35.76; 95%CI=0.29-4446.35; p=0.146) at Sultan Iskandar Muda Regional Hospital, Nagan Raya Regency. The results of qualitative research show that non-medical factors that play a role in cesarean section are fear of pain and complications during normal delivery. Prolonged labor is the most dominant factor with cesarean section. Therefore, health workers at community health centers are expected to provide positive support in the form of positive affirmations to pregnant women, such as deep breathing and relaxation exercises to reduce pain. Strengthen education programs and routine pregnancy check-ups at primary health care facilities to detect risk factors early and prevent childbirth complications.
