Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur'an (MTQ), which competes for the holy book of Muslims, has received a negative response from some Indonesian Ulama. Because the Qur’an is the authoritative guideline for Muslims whose originality must be maintained. This study aims to be the antithesis of the assumption that MTQ activities are synonymous with disoriented aspects of da'wah. This research is a qualitative field research using an Islamic communication approach. As for access to data from this research, it was obtained by conducting observations, interviews and documentation studies. The research object raised was MTQ activities carried out in Jambi Province. The results of the study concluded that MTQ's preaching had implications for understanding, perception, and changes in people's behavior as an acceleration of the development of the Qur'anic community (Takwin al-Ummah). This research is expected to enrich the body of knowledge in the discipline of da'wah. This means that the da'wah dimension is not only limited to tabligh activities at religious pulpits, but is connected in all social activities of the community.

Abstract

This paper analyzes the form of religious fundamentalism displayed through Tablighi Jama'ah’s da’wah movement in Madura and uncovers the rationale for Madura’s community's acceptance of this da’wah movement group. This paper is qualitative research using a case study approach. Data collection was carried out through interviews with some main figures and followers of the group, a series of observations, and documentation of the da’wah activities undergone by the group. The result shows that the Tablighi Jama'ah’s da’wah movement in Madura can be categorized as a puritanical Islamic fundamentalist movement, particularly because it intends to purify faith, sharia, and morals. In contrast to the beliefs of other religious groups, this group prohibits an active and massive use of technology because it is perceived as a direct obstacle to da’wah and is considered full of immorality. This group emphasizes the so-called sunnah appearance, such as using robes, turbans, siwak, cingkrang trousers, and not being engaged in practical politics. Moreover, they also emphasize congregational prayers and the necessity of living a simple life. This paper also signifies that the Madura community accepts the Tablighi Jama'ah because their religious practices are congruently aligned with the teachings of Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama'ah. In addition, the acceptance of the Madura community is due to their obedience toward the Kiai, who have previously accepted the Tablighi Jama'ah da’wah activities in Madura.

Abstract

This article examines the concept of Pancasila and primordial deradicalization as a socio-legal nexus for Islamic and socio-anthropological practices in Indonesia and Afghanistan, focusing on fostering a plural society. Pancasila, the philosophical foundation of the Indonesian state, has accommodated religious and cultural diversity, including legal plurality. The article explores how the principles of Pancasila can contribute to the deradicalization of extreme primordial affiliation (such as sharia) by addressing the underlying socio-anthropological factors that contribute to extremism in both countries. The study employs a comparative analysis approach, drawing on qualitative data from various sources, including academic literature. It highlights the similarities and differences in the socio-anthropological contexts of Indonesia and Afghanistan, particularly about the dynamics of Islamic values, laws, and their impact on society. By examining the role of Pancasila and its potential applicability in Afghanistan, the article aims to contribute to developing effective primordial deradicalization strategies in both countries. The findings suggest that Pancasila's emphasis on inclusivity, tolerance, and mutual respect can provide a framework for addressing the socio-anthropological factors contributing to a socio-legal nexus. The article argues that by incorporating the principles of Pancasila into deradicalization efforts, policymakers and practitioners can work towards creating a more pluralistic and cohesive society. It also explores the challenges and opportunities of implementing such an approach, considering the unique contexts of Indonesia and Afghanistan.
