Abstract

The design of the Almuslim University Auditorium aims to create a representative and functional facility to support academic, non-academic, and cultural activities. The auditorium will serve as a central venue for important events such as seminars, conferences, and artistic performances, as well as a space to enrich students' learning experiences and interact with the internal and external community, as well as the public. However, Almuslim University currently lacks an auditorium that meets the required standards, which hinders the execution of major events. Therefore, the main goal of designing this auditorium is to enhance facilities and provide adequate space. The design process began with a literature review to identify auditorium design standards related to acoustics, seating layout, circulation, and multimedia technology. This was followed by benchmarking through library and online sources. The next step involved identifying issues that arose during the design process and conducting a thorough analysis. This analysis aims to provide a design response that suits the environment and physical characteristics of the building. The results of this analysis are then implemented into the auditorium design concept with the theme of "Tangible Metaphor" or "Symbolic Architecture," integrated with modern concepts and additional architectural elements in the building design.

Abstract

Abstract: A habitable house is a dwelling that meets the standards of quality, comfort, accessibility, health, and sustainability, as regulated in Law No. 1 of 2011 on Housing and Settlement Areas. However, limited public understanding of thermal comfort often results in house construction that solely follows design blueprints without considering environmental factors such as building orientation, ventilation, and materials used. This community service activity aims to enhance thermal comfort in habitable houses through socialization and the implementation of a prototype design adapted to local climate conditions. The activity involved 15 participants, including village officials, members of the Family Empowerment and Welfare group (PKK), and Local Village Facilitators (PLD). Evaluation was conducted using pre-test and post-test questionnaires, interviews, and direct observation of adaptive design implementation in sample houses. The results indicate that while the examined houses can be categorized as habitable, certain factors still influence thermal comfort, including ventilation orientation and openings, number of occupants, house size, and building materials. This socialization program successfully improved participants' knowledge and skills by 60%, particularly in planning cross-ventilation and selecting thermal insulation materials. Additionally, measurements using a 5-in-1 Environment Meter recorded an average indoor temperature reduction of 2°C after ventilation improvements and the use of more suitable materials. These findings demonstrate that education and adaptive design interventions can enhance thermal comfort and overall housing quality in tropical regions.
