Abstract

Literary works have been believed to be media to spread ideas or ideology. This paper seeks to examine the images of women before Indonesia’s Reformation Era as reflected in Ahmad Tohari's Bekisar Merah and after the Reformation Era as reflected in Ayu Utami's Saman. By employing qualitative modes of inquiry and theories in the sociology of literature, this study has shown that images of women before and after Indonesia’s Reformation Era were depicted differently. Before Indonesia’s Reformation Era, the image of women tended to be submissive in dealing with the socio-political dynamics, while after the Reformation Era in 1998, they were depicted as progressive and even rebellious. However, it is also important to notice that this difference indicated the writers' political and ideological preference in describing the women’s position in Indonesian society in their era. The findings of this study support Gramsci's idea about ideological or cultural hegemony presented by literary work.

Abstract

The Omnibus Law, which was passed on October 5, 2020, has discontented students and workers who protested on the streets. The ratification of the Omnibus Law has an effect on public opinion-raising activities, both those who support and who reject the ratification of the Omnibus Law, are crowded on Twitter social media. The active account of K-Poppers who took part became a line against the opinion of the Omnibus Law, so a question arises whether this is a phenomenon of the rise of political awareness of K-Poppers in Indonesia? This study analyzes the role of K-Poppers in socio-political movements in several countries globally, especially in Indonesia. The type of research used is a case study of the K-Poppers movement in the case of the ratification of the Omnibus Law as the subject in writing this paper. Collecting data using Social Network Analysis (SNA) and observing the activities of K-Poppers in Indonesia when parliament passed the controversial Omnibus Law. The results of this study indicate that Indonesian K-Poppers maximize their function as part of Indonesian citizens to express their political stance. They also showed their political involvement when creating hashtags, organizing other K-Pop crowds, and at the same time providing support to activists who rejected the Omnibus Law.

Abstract

The research analyzed the perspectives of Indonesian students that were located in Nanjing by using Jean Baudrillard's theory of simulacra. Recently, China had been trying to revive the silk road, a line connecting the world through trade, that used to be gainful in the past, with a route called the belt road initiative. This program had unlocked China's cooperation gates with many other countries from all over the world, although much undesirable information circulated regarding this initiative, ranging from environmental issues to rumor on the sovereignty of the state of China’s partner. Through simulacra’s logic, the author outlined the perspective of Indonesian students that had studied in Nanjing, China, towards the belt road initiative. The research found that even though the students had long felt education in China and assimilated much knowledge about this country quite first-hand, they did not necessarily believe that this new route would benefit their homeland.

Abstract

The presence of Public Relations Officers in the organization is a must because they’re responsible for establishing good relations between the organization and stakeholders. Good relations between these two will result in harmony. This is a key factor in the success of various programs implemented by the organization. However, it seems that now the role of Public Relations Officers of the Republic of Indonesia Government has begun to decline and be replaced by Influencers starting from the end of 2019 to mid-2020. This research is a case study to describe how the Public Relations Officer of the government of the Republic of Indonesia lost its main function, being heavily replaced by influencers promoting Omnibus Law on social media. Influencers can be a respectable profession if they maintain their quality as public communicators. First, influencers need to have qualifications and competencies relevant to their field. Second, influencers hired by government agencies openly convey to the public that the message sent is a form of a commercial public campaign. Third, government agencies that use influencer services also need to meet the qualifications and competency standards of the influencers they choose. The conclusion is that the government prefers to maximize the function of influencers so that the Omnibus Law gets support from the community rather than maximizing Public Relations Officer. However, the use of influencers must be accompanied by good communication. With this, we can hope that the influencers will develop into a public communication actor that is respectable and acceptable.
