Abstract

The success of guidance and counseling services in schools largely depends on School Counselors’ managerial abilities in planning, organizing, and evaluating services. However, many School Counselors are burdened with additional tasks beyond their main responsibilities, including administrative duties that are still handled manually, hindering optimal service delivery. Therefore, an information system is needed to simplify administrative tasks and reduce barriers to work. This study aims to examine: 1) the feasibility of an administrative information system in improving the accountability of School Counselors, 2) the practicality of an administrative information system in improving the accountability of School Counselors, and 3) the effectiveness of an administrative information system in improving the accountability of School Counselors. Using the Borg & Gall R&D model, the study involved vocational high school School Counselors and employed an administrative information system scale as the research instrument. The results showed that the system was deemed feasible by expert validation, practical by School Counselors, and effective in enhancing accountability. In the long term, SIMAS BK has the potential to be broadly implemented and integrated into national education systems to support data-driven counseling services. Abstract

Background: Many junior high school students exhibit low assertiveness, particularly in expressing opinions, resisting negative peer pressure, and maintaining interpersonal boundaries, which may hinder their socio-emotional development. Aim: This study examined the urgency and effectiveness of structured peer counseling as an intervention to improve assertive behavior among junior high school students. Method: The research employed a quasi-experimental pretest–posttest control-group design involving 62 students, divided into an experimental and a control group. The intervention consisted of structured peer counseling sessions emphasizing active listening, empathy, modeling, and role-playing of assertive communication. Assertive behavior was measured using a four-point Likert scale instrument administered before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test to determine differences between pretest and posttest scores. Results and Discussion: The findings revealed a statistically significant improvement in the experimental group (Z = -4.643, p < 0.001) with a large effect size (r = 0.60), indicating meaningful behavioral change following peer counseling. In contrast, the control group did not show a significant improvement (Z = -1.924, p = 0.054). These results suggest that structured peer counseling provides an effective developmental context for practicing assertive communication skills through peer interaction and social modeling. Conclusion: The study confirms the urgent need for assertive behavior intervention in junior high schools and demonstrates that structured peer counseling is an effective approach to enhancing students' assertiveness, providing empirical support for its integration into school guidance and counseling programs.

Abstract

Gender-based violence in educational settings remains a persistent concern, while efforts to promote gender equality awareness among adolescents are still limited by the lack of engaging digital guidance services. This study aimed to develop a website-based guidance intervention to improve gender equality awareness among high school students. A research and development design was employed using the ADDIE model, consisting of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. Data were collected from 64 students in two high schools in Gunungkidul Regency through interviews, questionnaires, and a gender equality awareness scale. The feasibility and practicality of the website were assessed through expert validation, counselor review, and student responses, while its effectiveness was tested using a pretest-posttest design. The results showed that the website achieved a very high level of feasibility and practicality. In the experimental group, students’ gender equality awareness increased significantly after the intervention, t(29) = -7.933, p < .001, with a moderate effect size (Cohen’s d = 0.65). In contrast, the control group showed no significant improvement. These findings indicate that a website-based guidance intervention can serve as an effective and innovative medium for enhancing gender equality awareness in school counseling services.
