Abstract

The widespread misuse of drugs, particularly Class I Narcotics, among teenagers in Papua Province, along with the high number of cases involving children detained as drivers and users in juvenile detention centers, has necessitated the implementation of one of the subjects, namely Prevention and Management of Narcotics, Psychotropic Substances, and Other Addictive Substances (NAPZA), at the Keerom District Juvenile Detention Center. Method: Community Engagement Activities (PkM) were carried out for one day on May 5, 2023, at the Keerom District Juvenile Detention Center, targeting an audience of 26 juvenile detainees. This PkM activity was executed using three methods: a question-and-answer session involving sharing activities with the juvenile detainees, Community Health Education (Penkesmas) in the form of a lecture on the dangers of drugs, and Data Collection, encompassing the gathering of data on the characteristics and knowledge of juvenile detainees concerning the hazards of drugs. Following the completion of the data collection phase, data analysis was conducted using STATA 24 software. Results: The majority of the detained children (50%) were 13 years old, with the highest level of education being the completion of High School (SMA) at 53.8%. There was a knowledge increase by 23.4% before and after the lecture. Conclusion: The implementation of the NAPZA subject through lectures resulted in a boost in the children's knowledge, and it was determined that the most widely consumed and circulated drug in Papua is Cannabis.

Based on a preliminary study around 13.3% of them have engaged in free sex. The objective is to examine the factors influencing the sexual behavior of high school adolescents. The study adopts a cross-sectional design, conducted over a period of approximately 5 months, from April to August 2021. The population was all students in combined classes of grades X and XI, totaling 127 individuals. The sample was 127, utilizing a saturated sampling technique. The primary data was collected through a questionnaire adapted from the 2017 Adolescent Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) questionnaire, encompassing variables such as sexual behavior, knowledge about HIV, exposure to sources of information, dating behavior, and alcohol consumption. The findings were analyzed using bivariate analysis through the Chi-square. The results indicated a significant correlation between dating behavior (p-value: 0.001 and PR: 0.16), alcohol consumption behavior (p-value: 0.004 and PR: 0.17), and sexual behavior. The study concludes dating behavior and alcohol consumption are related to sexual behavior. The City Health Office must educate teenagers in school about the dangers of free sex to prevent the spread of HIV in Jayapura. Abstract

Background: Young men who have sex with men in Indonesia face a high vulnerability to sexually transmitted infections. However, evidence on the role of body modification and drug use remains limited. This study examined behavioral correlates of self-reported sexually transmitted infection symptoms. Methods: Data were obtained from the 2018–2019 Integrated Biological and Behavioral Survey, a cross-sectional respondent-driven sampling study involving 1,988 men aged 18–24 years across multiple Indonesian cities. Weighted logistic regression was used to estimate adjusted odds ratios for sexually transmitted infection symptoms in relation to tattooing, piercing, drug use, condom use, HIV prevention knowledge, and sociodemographic factors. Results: The prevalence of self-reported sexually transmitted infection symptoms was 22.8%. Tattooing, piercing, and drug use were not independently associated with these symptoms after adjustment. In contrast, low human immunodeficiency viruses (HIV) prevention knowledge (Adjusted OR = 8.53; 95% CI: 2.38–30.4) and inconsistent condom use (never: Adjusted OR = 32.3; 95% CI: 1.34–775.5; occasional: Adjusted OR = 3.57; 95% CI: 1.12–11.4) showed strong associations. Conclusion: The primary drivers of sexually transmitted infection symptoms among young men who have sex with men were gaps in HIV prevention knowledge and inconsistent condom use, rather than tattooing, piercing, or drug use. Interventions should prioritize sexual health education, condom promotion, and regulatory oversight for body modification practices.
