Abstract

The purpose of this study was to obtain the ratio of pumpkin and seaweed which was selected in the manufacture of jelly candy according to chemical and organoleptic quality. This research was conducted by using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five treatments and three replications. The treatments in this study were LKRL1 (ratio of pumpkin:seaweed 66:34), LKRL2 (pumpkin of ratio:seaweed 58:42), LKRL3 (pumpkin of ratio:seaweed 50:50), LKRL4 (pumpkin of ratio:seaweed 42:58), and LKRL5 (ratio of pumpkin: seaweed 34:66). The data obtained were analyzed statistically using ANOVA. The results showed that the use of yellow squash and seaweed significantly affected water content, ash content, reducing sugar content and sensory rating. The selected treatment from this research was LKRL4 which has moisture content 23.69%, ash content 1.77%, reducing sugar content 8.67% and fiber content 0.88%. While the sensory assessment was descriptive ie brownish, slightly scented pumpkin, sweet taste, chewy texture and favored by panelists. Keywords: Candy jelly, pumpkin and seaweed

Abstract

This article aimed to study kernel method for testing normality and to determine the density function based on curve fitting technique (density plot) for small sample sizes. To obtain optimal bandwith we used Kullback-Leibler cross validation method. We compared the result using goodness of fit test by Kolmogorof Smirnov test statistics. The result showed that kernel method gave the same performance as Kolmogorof Smirnov for testing normality but easier and more convinient than Kolmogorof Smirnov does.

Abstract

Ornamental plants anthurium wave love great demand of society because the leaves are beautiful, unique and interesting. The edges of the leaves of anthurium generally with characteristic wavy. Anthurium plant growth stimulation can be enhanced by the application of growth regulators BAP and foliar fertilizers. The purpose of this study was to obtain a concentration of growth regulators BAP and best foliar fertilizer for growing ornamental plants anthurium. Experiments was carried out in the plant tissue culture laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University from November 2015 to February 2016. Materials used in the love wave anthurium seeds, plant media are a mixture of soil, sand, compost 1: 1: 1 (v / v). Two-factor factorial experiment arranged in completely randomized design with three replications. The first factor was the concentration of BAP (0, 2.5, 5.0 and 7.5 mg/L) and the second factor was the frequency of giving leaf fertilizer (0, 1, 2 times). The variables observed were plant height, leaf width, root length and fresh weight of plants. The data were analyzed by analysis of variance followed by Honestly Significant Difference test 5%. The results showed that there is an interaction between BAP and the frequency of leaf fertilizer application to plant height and root length. The best BAP 2.50 mg/L for leaf width growth and 5.0 mg/L best to increase the fresh weight of plants. The best BAP concentration of 2.50 mg/L for leaf width growth and 5.0 mg/L is best for increasing the fresh weight of plants. Abstract

Persimmon, kesemek, buah kaki atau manggih hutan dalam bahasa minang adalah berbagai sebutan untuk buah yang dihasilkan oleh tanaman pohon Diospyros kaki Thunb. Buah kesemek mengandung berbagai nutrisi penting, anti toksik dan bahkan anti kanker. Kesemek merupakan tanaman sub tropika sehingga di Indonesia kesemek hanya beradaptasi pada ketinggian ± 1400 mdpl, seperti Alahan Panjang. Petani biasanya menggunakan anakan untuk perbanyakan, namun akibatnya tanaman membutuhkan waktu yang lama untuk berbuah, lebih dari 8 tahun. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk mentransfer teknologi sambung pucuk menggunakan anakan (root-sucker) sebagai batang bawah (root-stock) sebagai upaya untuk mendapatkan perbanyakan kesemek secara cepat dan tanaman cepat berbuah. Mitra kegiatan ini adalah kelompok tani Harapan Baru yang berada di Batu Bagiriek Alahan Panjang Kabupaten Solok, Sumatera Barat dari bulan Oktober hingga Desember 2016. Metode kegiatan meliputi penyuluhan, demonstrasi dan pelatihan grafting. Hasil kegiatan adalah petani meningkat pengetahuannya tentang manfaat buah kesemek, teknik budidaya dan pasca panen serta mampu melakukan grafting atau penyambungan pada kesemek menggunakan root-sucker (anakan) sebagai batang bawah. Berdasarkan hasil uji statistika menggunakan analisis Likert, kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yang dilakukan memiliki nilai indeks 92, menunjukkan bahwa kegiatan yang dilakukan bermanfaat atau berhasil mentransfer pengetahuan dan juga keterampilan kepada petani.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using sago starch, tempe flour and purple sweet potatoflour to the characteristics physicochemical and sensory of the cookies and meet the quality standard ofcookies (SNI 01-2973-1992). The research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five treatmentand four replications. The treatment in this study were K1 (sago starch 100%), K2 (sago starch 60%, tempehflour 20%, purple sweet potato flour 20%), K3 (sago starch 50%, tempeh flour 25%, purple sweet potato flour25%), K4 (sago starch 40%, tempeh flour 30%, purple sweet potato flour 30%), K5 (sago starch 30%, tempehflour 35%, purple sweet potato flour 35%). The data obtained were statistically analyzed using analysis ofvariance (Anova). If F count is greater than or equal to F table, then conduted a further test with Duncan’sNew Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at the level of 5%. The results showed that the treatment significantlyeffect to the moisture content, ash content, protein content, analysis texture, descriptive sensory assessmentand hedonic sensory assessment and non significant on the overall hedonic ratings. The best cookies in thisresearch is was K3 with has 2.95% of moisture content, 1.14% of ash content, 8.86% of protein content 4.30kgf of texture, coloured purple, sweet scent purple sweet potato, slightly brittle texture and having sweetness.

Abstract

Cultivation of ornamental plants in the school is necessary to provide the loveliness, and conductive atmosphere and environment for the learning process in that school. This community empowerment program aimed to transfer knowledge and technology of ornamental plants cultivation, covering the aspects of growing media, application of plant growth regulator, propagation and hybridization of ornamental plants to the biology teachers of high school. The methods of empowerment were community learning, demonstration, training, and self-practice. Results from the activities showed that the representative biology teachers from districts and cities in West Sumatra could be understood and applied the techniques of ornamental plants cultivation in their respective schools. The Likert analysis showed that a percentage of 95.6%, indicating that the transfer of technology provided is very beneficial for high school biology teachers. Hence, this activity is needed to be continuous in the future.

Abstract

SMA Negeri 13 Padang is one of the high schools in Padang, which has been the partner of the Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University. Currently, the school is experiencing difficulties in developing the Adiwiyata program. The less than optimal use of the schoolyard becomes an obstacle in realizing this program. The vertical garden is a solution that can be applied in schools so that the yard's utilization can be done optimally. This activity aims to provide knowledge and understanding of the school regarding the vertical garden. This activity was carried out at SMA Negeri 13 Padang using survey methods, counseling, and demonstrations in making a vertical garden. Based on the activities carried out, the results obtained are 16% of the participants know about the vertical garden, and 84% of the participants do not learn the vertical garden technique yet. In the end of program, 80% of the participants understood the vertical garden technique and applied it in their respective classes. The knowledge and understanding of the participants increased by 64%.

Abstract

Telah dilakukan penelitian tentang sintesis nanopartikel mangan oksida menggunakan prekursor KMnO4 dengan metode sol gel, dengan menambahkan aditif etilendiamin dan etilen glikol yang berperan sebagai agen penstabil, selanjutnya menguji aktivitas katalitik dari mangan oksida tersebut terhadap proses degradasi warna rhodamin B. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penambahan zat aditif terhadap ukuran dan bentuk nanopartikel yang dihasilkan serta kemampuannya sebagai katalis dalam proses degradasi zat warna rhodamin B. Nanopartikel yang diperoleh, dikarakterisasi menggunakan XRD (X-Ray Diffraction) dan SEM (Scanning Elektron Microscope) serta penentuan aktivitas katalitik dalam proses degradasi terhadap zat warna rhodamin B dengan spektrofotometer UV-Vis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan sintesis nanopartikel menggunakan aditif etilendiamin lebih baik dibandingkan dengan aditif etilen glikol karena ukuran nanopartikel berkisar antara 5,66-33,38 dalam bentuk tetragonal. Morfologi nanopartikel mangan oksida terlihat berbentuk bulat yang seragam. Nanopartikel mangan oksida hasil sintesis mampu mempercepat proses degradasi warna rhodamin B dengan persentase degradasi mencapai 85,6%. Kata kunci: Nanopartikel, Mangan Oksida , Sol gel dan Rhodamin B ABSTRACT Research has been carried out on the synthesis of manganese oxide nanoparticles using KMnO4 precursors with the sol gel method, by adding ethylenediamine and ethylene glycol additives which act as stabilizing agents, then tested the catalytic activity of the manganese oxide on the degradation process of Rhodamine B. This study aims to determine the effect of adding substances additives on the size and shape of the nanoparticles were produced and their ability as catalysts in the degradation process of Rhodamin B. Nanoparticles were obtained, characterized using XRD (X-Ray Diffraction)and SEM (Scanning Elektron Microscope)and determination of catalytic activity in the degradation process of rhodamine B dyes with UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The results showed that the synthesis of nanoparticles using ethylenediamine additives was better than ethylene glycol additives because the size of the nanoparticles ranged from 5.66 to 33.38 in the tetragonal form. The morphology of manganese oxide nanoparticles looks uniform in shape. Manganese oxide nanoparticles can accelerate the degradation process of Rhodamin B with a percentage of degradation reaching 85.6%. Keywords: Nanoparticles, Manganese Oxide, Sol gel and Rhodamin B

Abstract

ABSTRAK Ekstrak kloroform kulit batang tumbuhan mangrove Sonneratia alba dianalisis untuk menentukan aktivitas antioksidannya dengan metode DPPH. Ekstrak kloroform ini  menunjukkan aktivitas antioksidan yang kuat dengan nilai IC50 41,9 µg/ml. Aktivitas antioksidan ekstrak kloroform tersebut termasuk kuat berdasarkan kriteria Blois (<100 µg/mL termasuk antioksidan kuat), namun aktivitas ini lebih rendah dari control positif yang digunakan (asam askorbat) dengan nilai IC50 sebesar 17,64 µg/mL. Dari hasil uji ini, disimpulkan bahwa S. alba berpotensi sebagai sumber antioksidan alami. Kata kunci: Sonneratia alba, antioksidan, mangrove ABSTRACT Chloroform extract of the bark of mangrove Sonneratia Alba were analyzed to determine theantioxidant activity by DPPH method. Chloroform extract showed strong antioxidant activitywith IC50 value is 41.9 µg/ml. The antioxidant activity of chloroform extract was strongly based on criteria including Blois (<100 µg/mL included a powerful antioxidant), but this activity is lower than the positive control used (ascorbic acid) with IC50 values​​ of 17.64 mg/mL. From the results of this test, it was concluded that S.alba potential as asource of natural antioxidants. Key words: Sonneratiaalba, antioxidants, mangrove.

Abstract

Nagari Campago is located in Limakoto Subdistrict, Kampung Dalam, Padang Pariaman Regency. The area has great potential in agriculture, because there is a large area of wetland agriculture for white rice cultivation and dry land for chili plants and other seasonal crops. However, the reality that happened to Nagari Campago was that several times the harvest period, farmers experienced pests and diseases that resulted in crop failure. Farmers have limited information on red rice cultivation. The purpose of this activity is for Nagari Campago farmers to gain knowledge and understanding about brown rice, farmers can recognize and be able to make vegetable pesticides that can be used to control plant pests and diseases, thereby reducing maintenance costs. This activity was carried out in Nagari Campago, Limokoto Subdistrict, Kampung Dalam, Padang Pariaman Regency, West Sumatra Province. The method used is lecture, demonstration, discussion, monitoring. Socialization of the benefits of brown rice and demonstration training on the manufacture of vegetable pesticides to partners of the “Bukik Caliak Indah” farmer group. The result of the implementation of the activity is that the community is very interested in the cultivation of organic red rice and chili. The community is able to make their own botanical pesticides to control plant pests and diseases. From the results of the activity, it can be concluded that farmers are aware of environmentally friendly cultivation, and alternative sources of food crops.
