Abstract

The existence of skills programs in non-vocational madrasah aliyah has actually been practiced for a long time in several madrasas. Along with the need for skills education in madrasah aliyah, the Ministry of Religion continues to open opportunities for madrasa aliyah to implement skills programs. Using qualitative methods, this study aims to evaluate the skills program at MAN 1 Surakarta and MAN 1 Karanganyar, Central Java. Evaluation is carried out on aspects of Context, Input, Process, Product, and Outcome (CIPPO). The results showed that the implementation of the skills program at MAN 1 Surakarta and MAN 1 Karanganyar was quite good. Of the five aspects evaluated, the product aspect received the lowest score compared to the other four aspects. This is because there is no certification of expertise from training institutions for graduates of skills programs, skills products do not yet have national standards, and there are still few alumni of skills programs who work or open businesses in accordance with the skills obtained in madrasas. Therefore, madrasah aliyah skills programs need to increase collaboration with training institutions and the industrial world to the issuance of certificates of expertise for graduates of skills programs and recruitment of workers from skills program alumni.

Abstract

Teachers of Islamic education in Indonesia have some problems. On the one hand, they are required to meet the standards of qualification, competencies, and certification. On the other hand, they have over-working hour due to the imbalance between the number of the teachers and the students. This fact will undoubtedly affect their work quality. The work quality of the teachers can be measured by five kinds of competences: pedagogic, personality, social, professional, and leadership. This research is aimed to measure the five competences of the teachers of Islamic Education in Senior High Schools and Senior Vocational Schools (both SMA and SMK) in Central Java, and it is also to examine the hypothesis that there is no significant difference in teachers’ competences in terms of their status: civil servants (PNS) or not (non-PNS), and certified or not. By using quantitative approach, the research has two important findings. The first, the competency of the Islamic teachers in Central Java is on the medium level which have a score at 2.95 on a scale of 4.00. The pedagogic competence occupies the highest level with 3.25, in contrast the social competence is on the lowest one with 2.9. The second, there is no significant difference in competences between the teachers who are civil servants and those who are not. On the contrary, there is a significant difference in competences between the teachers who are certified and who are not certified yet.

Abstract

Temajuk village is one of the areas in the regency of Sambas, West Borneo, which is a bordering area with Malaysia. The location which is far from the center of government and close to the territory of another country can, to some extent, threaten the border society’s nationalism. Through a qualitative approach, this study examined the role of the Islamic education subject (PAI) and the local tradition (Saprahan) in strengthening the nationalism of the border people. The results showed that at least there are three teaching materials of Islamic Education (PAI) relevant to the values of nationalism i.e., democracy, tolerance, and unity and harmony. Such materials have a strategic role in providing nationalism reinforcement for students at a senior high school level. Meanwhile, the Saprahan tradition which has been held fast by Temajuk people showed that their nationalism principles are contained therein, i.e., unity, equality, and performance. The tradition also has a social function for the inhabitants of Temajuk to meet their basic and secondary needs.

Abstract

Indonesia's education is heavily focusing on developing students' good characters. Character values can be explored from the legacy of the previous generations through old scriptures. Of many genres of Javanese scriptures containing character values are the wulang scripts, such as Suluk Candra, written by Prince Wijil Kadilangu and stored in Museum Rekso Pustaka Mangkunegaran Library. This article explores the character values depicted by the manuscript and contextualizes them with today's education. The present study employs the principles of philology and the interpretation of texts. The working principle of philology aims to produce a text edition, while interpretation aims to analyze the content of the text. It is found that Suluk Candra is a script containing Islamic values, teaching at least four ethics that can be contextualized with the world of education in the current 4.0 era. On the ethical values, there are ethics to the king/ leader/ state, ethics to teachers, ethics to fellow human beings, and ethics to oneself. Besides, there are also values of character education in Suluk Candra. Those character values are relevant to the present day, including the love of science, logical thinking, critical, creativity, innovation, religiosity, honesty, and nationalism.

Abstract

Abstract All religions have a concept of tolerance that applies to both fellow religions and different religions. The Ministry of Religious Affairs proclaimed 2022 as the year of tolerance, which its indicator is religious moderation. The attitude and understanding of religious moderation of religious counselors, religious teachers, and madrasa teachers have not been measured systematically before. This article uses a survey method to measure attitudes and understanding of religious moderation among religious counselors and teachers. About 324 religious counselors and 445 religious studies and madrasa teachers were chosen as the sample using proportional random sampling. The findings show that religious moderation attitude of religious counselors and teachers are in the high category, with an average score of 3.62 and 3.52 (scale 4) respectively. Their understanding of religious moderation has an average score of 0.67 and 0.65 (scale 0-1), which are also classified in high and moderate level. However, the tolerance aspect scored the lowest on both attitude and understanding. Religious tolerance, especially in an interfaith perspective, is still not sufficiently understood by most respondents. Only a few of respondents understand the concept of religious tolerance thoroughly. By comparing the attitudes and understanding of training alumni and nonalumni, implementing religious moderation training has not provided effective results. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the PPMB training system, including its curriculum, method, and implementation because it hasn’t been improving the religious counselors quality optimally.

Abstract

During the global pandemic of COVID-19, the learning model has been “forced” to transition from conventional to distance learning. At the beginning of its implementation, digital-based learning received many complaints from teachers, parents, and students. Gradually, they can adapt to distance learning that utilizes many digital devices. Through quantitative and qualitative research approaches, this paper aims to describe the online learning model in schools and Islamic boarding school (pesantren) based on their experience during COVID-19. From these studies, several digital-based learning models can be identified. First, social media-based learning. Social media-based learning is carried out by optimizing the use of WhatsApp as the main media in learning. Second, learning through virtual classrooms, which is face-to-face learning between teachers and students in a digital space. Third, education platform-based learning, where the learning process is conducted through internal school or government platforms. Fourth is blended learning, which is learning partly online and offline. This fourth lesson aims to accommodate the learning needs of students or teachers who have obstacles such as signal difficulties and weak economies. The findings contribute to the availability of references for digital learning models that can be applied in the future.

Abstract

This article discussed the lives of the wives of terrorist convicts, including their everyday lives, and the relationship between the wives and their husbands in the terrorist offenders’ families. This theme is important to be examined for the following reasons: Indonesia has experienced a series of bombing actions throughout the country, and the existing studies mainly describe the actors who are mostly men affiliated with radical groups. This article was written based on field research in six places in Indonesia, including Lamongan, Surabaya, Madiun, Bojonegoro (East Java), Surakarta (Central Java), and Yogyakarta. Data were collected using interviews, observations, and documentary studies. The results of this study revealed that the wives of terrorist offenders faced difficulties in their lives, such as economic difficulties as they became the main breadwinners for the family, and they faced stereotyping as the families of terrorist offenders. Furthermore, there were unequal relationships between the wives and the husbands; for instance, most of the wives did not know their husbands' activities related to terrorist actions. This belief is supported by interpretations of Islamic law, which assert that men are leaders with full authority to manage their families and oversee their wives and children.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of inclusive curriculum standards in promoting educational equity in Indonesia, identify strategies to enhance educational accessibility for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, particularly in the context of content standards, and investigate the challenges in developing inclusive curricula. Employing a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) methodology, the study analyzes 50 scholarly articles from reputable academic databases, including Google Scholar, Web of Science (WoS), and Lens. The findings indicate that inclusive education aspires to provide equitable access to education for all children, including those with special educational needs, with the goal of optimizing each student's potential and fostering a more tolerant and inclusive society. In Indonesia, inclusive education is supported by a range of policies that offer a legal foundation for its implementation. Several strategies have been adopted to improve accessibility to quality education for students with special needs, including the development of inclusive curriculum standards, inter-sectoral collaboration, and efforts to improve infrastructure and teacher capacity. Nevertheless, the implementation of inclusive curricula continues to face significant challenges, such as inadequate facilities, limited teacher training, persistent social stigma, and difficulties in tailoring curricula to meet the diverse needs of learners. The success of inclusive education depends on largely on the collaborative commitment of key stakeholders, government bodies, educational institutions, communities, and families, to cultivate a truly inclusive learning environment. This study underscores the critical importance of shared responsibility and sustained engagement in overcoming these barriers to achieve equitable and inclusive education for all children in Indonesia.
