Abstract

Abstract

The factors that influence the learning of mathematics are very diverse. On this occasion, the focus is on gender, learning styles, learning independence, and motivation. These factors are fascinating because they always appear in learning and research themes. This study aimed to examine how the influence of these factors on learning achievement. This research is associational research which is a descriptive research methodology. The research subjects are 5th-semester students who take calculus courses, mathematics education study program, Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto. The instruments used in this study were questionnaires and learning outcomes tests. To analyze the data used, LISREL (Linear Structural Relationship) software. The results showed that not all variables affect each other directly. Gender influences learning motivation. Learning style has an impact on learning motivation. Learning motivation affects learning independence. Learning independence influences learning achievement. Learning motivation influences learning achievement. If it is seen how they influence learning achievement, then learning motivation has the most significant impact compared to gender, learning style, and learning independence.

Abstract

The study aimed to improve students’ mathematical representation and self-concept skills through Accelerated Learning Cycles (ALC). This study is Classroom Action Research (CAR) carried out in 3 cycles. The stages in each cycle were planning, implementation, observation, evaluation, and reflection. The research subjects were students of grade VII B of MTs Negeri 3 Banyumas in 2018/2019 academic year. The instrument used was a descriptive test to measure students’ mathematical representation skills provided at the end of each cycle and to determine students’ self-concepts through a questionnaire. Based on the findings, mathematical representation skills obtained an average value of 56,81 in the first cycle, 75,38 in the second cycle, and 80,86 in the third cycle. The results of the average value of students’ self-concept questionnaire for cycle I was equal to 64,85, 67,66 in the second cycle, and 70,65 in the third cycle. It can be drawn that the Accelerated Learning Cycle (ALC) could improve students’ mathematical representation skills and self-concept.

Abstract

Good learning media is learning media that is able to provide stimulation to students so as to generate interest in learning. Various types of media, of course students have no difficulty in choosing what media to use, both audio-based, visual-based, and audio-visual-based media. Learning media can be used to generate student learning motivation so that it can improve students' problem-solving abilities. This study aims to conduct a literature review related to effectiveness in learning mathematics at all levels. The research method chosen in this study is SLR (Systematic Literature Review). Data collection was carried out by documenting all articles that had similar research within the last 10 years in this research report. The articles used were 15 national journal articles accredited by Sinta obtained from Google Schoolar. Based on this research, it was found that the use of mathematics learning media can improve students' problem solving abilities, change the mindset and creativity of learning to be more fun. Based on the literature review conducted, learning media can be developed at all levels.

Abstract

The mosque is the oldest Islamic culture which is the centre of civilization for Muslims for every group, both adults and children. However, so far the mosque environment is rarely used as an effective learning resource to explore more contextual, meaningful and educational mathematics material. The purpose of this study was to explore mathematics teaching materials and religious values from objects (artefacts) around the mosque. The artefacts explored are mosque objects that have religious values, namely prayer rugs, prayer rugs, mosque reliefs and covers of the Qur'anic manuscripts. The research location is in the Baitu Usyaqil Quran (BUQ) Mosque and the Pesantren Darussalam Purwokerto Mosque, Banyumas, Central Java. The data collection method uses observation, documents and a literature review. The data analysis technique used descriptive qualitative analysis. The results showed that, prayer rugs, prayer rugs, mosque reliefs and covers of the Qur'anic manuscripts contain various transformational geometry concepts such as symmetry, reflection, translation, rotation, and dilation. The results of this study are very important for developing a mathematics curriculum based on student culture.

Abstract

Number sense is an essential skill for mastering the concept of numbers. This study seeks to examine number sense abilities regarding student learning freedom. This research consists of qualitative descriptive research. The research subjects were seventh-grade pupils at SMP Negeri 1 Kebasen in Banyumas. Data were gathered from the learning independence questionnaire, number sense ability test, and interviews. Students were divided into three groups based on their learning independence questionnaire scores: high, medium, and low. The purposive sampling strategy was employed to identify research subjects. The research results show that students with high learning independence are able to fulfill all number sense indicators. Students with moderate learning independence are able to master five number sense indicators. Students with low learning independence are only able to fulfill two indicators.

Abstract

Ethnomathematics is the finding of mathematics in the cultural values of a place. Indonesia has many kinds of cultures, and ethnomathematics research has been done in some areas of Indonesia. This study aims to identify the cultural forms and mathematical materials found in ethnomathematical research in Indonesia. The research method used is a literature review. The stages of the research method included selecting a topic, developing tools of argumentation, searching the literature, surveying the literature, critiquing the literature, and writing the thesis. The instruments used were Google Scholar, the search engine, and the NVivo application. The number of articles analyzed was 88 articles. These articles represent the culture spread across 34 provinces of Indonesia. The research results obtained are cultural forms containing mathematical material, including ideas, activities, and artifacts. Mathematical materials explored in these cultures include statistics, trigonometry, vector, algebra, arithmetic, one-dimensional geometry, two-dimensional geometry, three-dimensional geometry, coordinate geometry, transformation geometry, calculus, logic, and opportunity. The complexity of the culture and material found in mathematics shows that ethnomathematical research can be developed in all forms of culture and applied in various mathematics learning materials.
