Abstract

This study aimed to improve students’ mathematical literacy skills (MLS) through the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in the topic of probability at Phase E. The subjects were Grade X.1 students of SMAN 7 Pekanbaru in the 2024/2025 academic year. This Classroom Action Research (CAR) was carried out in two cycles, namely Cycle I and Cycle II, each consisting of two meetings with the stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research instruments comprised (1) learning materials, including the Learning Objectives Flow (ATP) and teaching modules, and (2) data collection instruments, including an MLS test and observation sheets for teacher and student activities. The findings revealed that the implementation of the PBL model successfully improved both the learning process and students’ MLS. The analysis of the MLS test results showed a significant improvement: the number of students in the “very good” category increased from 1 in the pre-test to 8 in Cycle I and 18 in Cycle II, while those in the “very poor” category decreased from 22 to 12 in Cycle I and only 2 in Cycle II. Therefore, the PBL model proved effective in improving the learning process and enhancing the mathematical literacy skills of SMAN 7 Pekanbaru students in the 2024/2025 academic year on the topic of probability.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and test the feasibility of a Problem-Based Learning (PBL)-based Sequence and Series teaching module in facilitating the mathematical problem-solving abilities of Phase E students. This type of research is development research (Research and Development) that uses the ADDIE model, which includes five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. In the analysis stage, observations and interviews were conducted with teachers and students at SMA Negeri 10 Pekanbaru to identify needs and problems in mathematics learning. The design stage focused on compiling a module based on PBL syntax, including problem orientation, student organization, investigation, development of work results, and evaluation and reflection. The developed module was validated by two Mathematics Education lecturers and one mathematics teacher to assess aspects of content, construction, language, and appearance. The validation results showed a validity level of 94% with a very valid category, while the practicality test results showed a value of 87% with a very practical category. Data collection techniques in this study included interviews, observations, questionnaires, and documentation. Data analysis related to validity and practicality was carried out using a percentage formula. These findings indicate that the developed teaching module is feasible and effective for mathematics instruction, particularly in improving students' problem-solving abilities. Therefore, this PBL-based teaching module can serve as an innovative learning tool that aligns with the principles of the Merdeka Curriculum and fosters students' critical, creative, and reflective thinking skills.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low mathematics learning outcomes of class VIIIC students of MTsN 3 Siak in the 2024/2025 academic year. The purpose of this study is to improve learning and improve mathematics learning outcomes by implementing the Problem Based Learning learning model. This research was conducted in two cycles and the subjects of the research were class VIIIC students of MTsN 3 Siak in the even semester of the 2024/2025 academic year totaling 27 students. The research focuses on student activities and student learning outcomes. Observation sheets and learning outcome tests were used as data collection methods. The results of this study indicate that the learning process has increased after the implementation of the PBL model. The percentage of students who achieved KKTP from the basic score to the summative test I and from the summative test I to the summative test II each increased, namely from 33.33% to 51.85% then 70.37%. From the data analysis, it was concluded that the application of the Problem Based Learning model can improve the learning process and improve the mathematics learning outcomes of students who achieved KKTP in class VIIIC MTsN 3 Siak

Abstract

Many students struggle to recognize sides and angles, especially when shapes are irregular. Since playing is a natural activity for children, it can be used as an effective learning strategy. This study aims to develop a game-based learning media to help elementary school students learn geometry. The media developed is called Tangram Sultan, a geometry game combined with folklore from the Siak Sultanate in Riau. This study presents the development of Tangram Sultan using the ADDIE development model. The Tangram Sultan game was tested at SD IT Alfityah Pekanbaru Riau. The Tangram Sultan game is used as a medium to develop students' understanding of the angles and sides of various shapes of two-dimensional figures with the following activity stages: (1) introduction of Tangram Sultan media, (2) use of media according to learning objectives, and (3) evaluation of learning process. These media have been successful in helping students to identify angles and sides and count the number of sides and angles found in various unusual two-dimentional figures. Results showed that the media successfully helped students identify and count sides and angles in irregular shapes. 66% of students correctly identified the number of sides, and 69% correctly identified the number of angles. The game also made the classroom environment more fun and engaging. This study opens up possibilities for teachers to use a combination of different games in local contexts.
