Abstract

This study investigates the role of Christian public theology in advancing social transformation, with particular emphasis on social justice, intercommunal solidarity, and sustainable development. Employing a qualitative methodology grounded in critical literature review, the research explores the engagement of public theology with the prevailing contexts of multiculturalism, globalisation, and popular culture. The findings reveal that public theology functions as a vital bridge between Christian faith—which proclaims Jesus Christ as the sole Saviour and restorer of creation—and tangible societal change within both private and public spheres. The study underscores the distinctive character of Christian public theology as an authentic and contextual agent of transformation, upholding the integrity of the Gospel message.

Abstract

The phenomenon of religious conversion in Indonesia from non-Christians to Christians often triggers Christophobia, which is a form of intolerance and hatred towards Christians which is manifested through discrimination, harassment and violence. The church must be a safe place for survivors of Christophobia and provide a way out as a form of social service to congregation members. Researchers used case study-based qualitative research with a Client-Centered Therapy approach model through interview techniques with seven congregations in the IFGF (International Full-Gospel Fellowship) church in Manado. Pastoral counseling services are a crucial step to care for the holistic well-being of survivors by developing effective strategies to achieve their recovery goals. Recovery does not occur instantly but rather through a gradual process that is layer by layer and religious conversion is a complex matter so counselors must be sensitive.

Abstract

Abstract:This study investigates the interwoven dimensions of prophetic spirituality, ministry, and the proclamation of tiqvah le-mashiach (תִּקְוָה לַמָּשִׁיחַ)—the hope of the Messiah—within the theological framework of the Hebrew Scriptures. It examines how prophetic experiences, such as divine visions and vocational struggles, shaped their roles as mediators of God's will and as heralds of justice, repentance (teshuvah / תְּשׁוּבָה), and covenant renewal. Through a qualitative and hermeneutical approach, the research engages in a theological analysis of selected prophetic texts, particularly from the books of Isaiah (Yeshayahu / יְשַׁעְיָהוּ) and Jeremiah (Yirmeyahu / יִרְמְיָהוּ), uncovering a rich spiritual tradition grounded in unwavering obedience, moral reform, and eschatological hope. The findings reveal that prophetic spirituality was not an isolated religious experience but a deeply embodied response to divine calling, marked by a commitment to mishpat (מִשְׁפָּט – justice), chesed (חֶסֶד – steadfast love), and tsedeq (צֶדֶק – righteousness). The Messianic prophecies articulated by the prophets are shown to be both historically situated and theologically enduring, expressing a vision of restoration, sacrificial leadership, and divine sovereignty. This study contributes to ongoing theological discourse by emphasising the enduring relevance of prophetic witness and offering a framework for integrating spirituality, ministry, and eschatology in contemporary faith contexts. Its distinctive contribution lies in its integrative theological reflection, which views prophetic ministry as a model for transformative spiritual engagement.

Abstract

This title raises the tension between the call to discipleship, which demands self-denial and the willingness to take up the cross, and the reality of contemporary culture, which emphasizes self-image and popularity through social media. This article presents a theological-critical study on the meaning of discipleship in light of digital culture, which affects how individuals shape their identities, form communities, and understand spirituality. Using a qualitative reflective approach based on literature, this paper examines the literature on the theology of the cross, digital spirituality, and the phenomenon of modern narcissism in light of the Gospel. The author highlights how the selfie culture can harm the understanding of faith but also opens opportunities for contextual and creative spiritual reflection. The study's findings show that discipleship in the digital age requires the formation of an identity rooted in the cross of Christ, not in digital validation. This article encourages the church to establish an authentic, radical, and contextual pattern of discipleship in response to today's popular culture.

Abstract

This article explores the concept of fragility within Christian theology, specifically examining how the vulnerability of women in church ministry is encountered through the lens of holiness and the sacrificial work of Christ. Utilizing a vulnerability theology framework, the study analyzes how women live out their spiritual calling amid patriarchal church structures that often marginalize their roles and voices. By engaging with theological discourse on fragility, this article seeks to offer a renewed perspective on how women may embrace their vulnerability as a sacred element of their ministerial vocation. The research employs a qualitative methodology, incorporating literature review and analysis of church documents. The findings suggest that fragility is not merely a sign of weakness, but a transformative space in which women may participate in the broader redemptive work of God.

Abstract

The ministry of specialised servants within the dynamic context of the contemporary church faces significant challenges, ranging from spiritual fatigue and psychological pressure to a crisis of meaning in fulfilling their calling. This phenomenon demands an approach that is not solely structural or technical but also addresses the deepest dimensions of ministry, namely theology and spirituality. This study aims to explore how the integration of profound theological understanding and consistent spiritual practice can restore and sustain specialised ministry from within. The method employed is a descriptive qualitative study, utilising library research and contextual theological reflection. The findings indicate that a holistic understanding of the nature of ministry in the light of Christ’s redemptive work, combined with spiritual disciplines such as prayer, meditation on Scripture, fasting, and silence, constitutes an essential foundation for building spiritual resilience and ministerial integrity. Formation that integrates theological and spiritual aspects has been shown to foster renewed motivation, strengthen commitment, and produce authentic and transformative ministry. Thus, the restoration of ministry from within is an ongoing process requiring personal awareness, communal support, and a church ecosystem that nurtures spiritual life holistically and contextually.

Abstract

The issue of salvation remains a central and foundational theme within Christian theology, maintaining its relevance across generations. Two principal pillars underpinning the construction of Christian soteriology are the doctrines of justification and substitution. The doctrine of justification asserts that sinful humanity is declared righteous before God solely through faith in Jesus Christ, independent of human works. Meanwhile, the doctrine of substitution posits that Christ offered Himself as a sacrificial substitute, bearing the penalty of sin on behalf of humankind. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method through a literature review approach, examining a wide range of theological sources, both classical and contemporary. The primary objective is to investigate thoroughly the biblical, historical, and rational foundations of these two doctrines as essential components of soteriology within the framework of systematic theology. The findings reveal that justification and substitution are not merely isolated theological concepts, but rather constitute an integrated whole in articulating God’s salvific work in Christ. Together, they offer a coherent and theologically robust response to the challenges posed by relativism and pluralism within the context of postmodern thought.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of ecotheological values in the patchouli (Pogostemon cablin) farming practices of the GMIM Kanaan Karowa congregation in the Tompasobaru I region. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were gathered through in-depth interviews, field observations, and church document analysis. The findings reveal a significant gap between the congregation’s strong theological awareness regarding the responsibility to care for creation and the reality of environmentally unfriendly agricultural practices. The community remains dependent on chemical fertilisers, pesticides, and wood-fuelled distillation methods that pose ecological risks. The church’s role is still confined to doctrinal teaching, lacking structured ecological action. Therefore, the church must take a leading role in integrating faith with ecological engagement to promote sustainable agriculture in harmony with Christian belief and the integrity of creation.

Abstract

This article explores the relevance of Søren Kierkegaard’s concept of private theology in addressing the ecological crisis within the congregation of GMIBM Sion Tonom. Employing a qualitative-descriptive approach and theological reflection, the study finds that a personal, existential spirituality has the capacity to foster authentic and contextually grounded ecological engagement. Notions such as the leap of faith and the teleological suspension of the ethical demonstrate that personal faith can transcend prevailing social norms in pursuit of divine obedience. Amidst the structural limitations of the institutional Church, private theology emerges as a participatory and transformative spiritual foundation, enabling the development of grassroots ecotheological movements. A faith lived intimately becomes a source of moral courage for acting towards the integrity of creation.
