Abstract

The purpose of this research is to develop cartoon strips as a source of English learning for class VIII students. The research method used Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation). To ensure the feasibility of the cartoon strips media being developed, aspects of validity, practicality and effectiveness were evaluated. The subjects in this research were class VIII, totaling 36 students. Data was collected through questionnaires and field trials. The research results showed that the cartoon strip learning that was developed was declared valid with a percentage of 81.3% so that the open module that had been prepared could be implemented according to plan. Therefore, this cartoon strip is considered practical with a percentage of 85.5% and an effectiveness level of 89.7% and this cartoon strip is proven to be interesting for students. By learning this cartoon strip, it can motivate and facilitate students to be more active in learning English and become a source of learning English.

This qualitative case study investigated learners’ perspectives on using the Forvo website to enhance their English-speaking skills within an online Discord community, "The English Hub." Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and textual analysis of Discord conversations. Inductive thematic analysis revealed that students perceived Forvo as a valuable tool, aligning with Previous Research, Vygotsky's Sociocultural Theory and TELL principles. Forvo facilitated social interaction, provided access to native speaker pronunciations (MKOs), and served as a cultural tool, promoting pronunciation improvement, confidence building, and vocabulary acquisition. Students reported significant improvements in their speaking skills, particularly in pronunciation, accent reduction, and fluency. Forvo effectively complemented traditional learning methods, offering authentic pronunciation models, a supportive online community, and a user-friendly interface. This study highlights the potential of Forvo to empower learners in their pursuit of English fluency

Abstract

In news writing, there are problems with writing skills that are often found in the world of national education. Collaborative, project-based learning models have proven useful for learning English and writing news. Therefore this development research aims to create a project-based learning product model. The Borg & Gall development procedure is followed in this research process. Students and instructors of English study program served as the research subjects. This development method results in reliable, usable, and efficient project-based learning model products for learning to write news stories. In order to collect data for this study, a questionnaire was presented to two material specialists and two media experts. The following are the findings from a study that looked at the viability of developing a project-based learning product learning model for learning how to write news using a Likert scale with a score range of 1 to 5. The results of material experts' validation received a score of 81.54%, placing them in the "very feasible" category. The results of media experts' validation received a score of 78.4%, placing them in the "suitable" category. It is possible to draw the conclusion that the project-based learning model's output is suitable for use in teaching news writing based on the findings of the feasibility study.

Abstract

Speaking fluency and pronunciation accuracy are essential components of oral proficiency in English language learning, especially in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) contexts. This study aims to investigate the effect of the shadowing technique on students’ speaking fluency and pronunciation accuracy in English language learning. The participants consisted of 32 eleventh-grade students from a senior high school in Palembang. The research employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The instrument used was a speaking test conducted before and after the implementation of the shadowing technique to measure students' improvement. The statistical analysis revealed a significant increase in scores between the pre-test and post-test. The mean pre-test score of 5.06 increased to 8.81 in the post-test, with a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000, indicating a statistically significant effect. These findings demonstrate that the shadowing technique is effective in enhancing students’ speaking fluency and pronunciation accuracy. Therefore, this technique is recommended as a practical method for improving speaking skills in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms.

Abstract

This research focuses on the development of more engaging English language student worksheets. The conventional worksheets, previously characterized by black-and-white printed pages dominated by question sets, were perceived as tedious and uninspiring. To overcome this limitation, a gamification-based worksheet was designed, integrating the interactive quiz platform Kahoot to enhance learner engagement. The study adopted the ADDIE development framework, encompassing the phases of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. A descriptive quantitative method was employed to evaluate the outcomes. The finalized worksheet achieved a validation score of 95.3% from three expert reviewers and a practicality score of 69.4% based on students’ responses. These findings suggest that the gamified worksheet is not only pedagogically valid but also sufficiently practical for use in classroom instruction, particularly for teaching the present continuous tense.

Abstract

This study investigates the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in enhancing students’ academic writing skills, with a specific focus on English Education students at Universitas PGRI Palembang. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive design within a phenomenological framework, the research examines the impact of AI tools—such as ChatGPT, Grammarly, and Quillbot—on the quality of student writing, their knowledge development, and their perceptions of these technologies. Data were gathered through observations, interviews, and documentation involving 10 students from the second and fourth semesters. The results indicate that AI tools play a significant role in helping students generate ideas, refine grammar and structure, and increase overall writing efficiency. Nevertheless, the study also uncovers ethical challenges, including dependency on AI and risks of plagiarism. In general, students expressed favorable views of AI, considering it a beneficial aid rather than a substitute for critical thinking. The study emphasizes the importance of integrating AI in a balanced way to preserve originality, foster creativity, and uphold academic integrity.

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative force in modern business, offering significant opportunities to enhance operational efficiency, improve customer engagement, and foster innovation. In Indonesia, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) play a crucial role in driving economic growth and employment, yet their adoption of AI technologies remains limited due to resource constraints, lack of expertise, and uncertainty about return on investment. This study aims to investigate how AI adoption can be leveraged to achieve competitive advantage in Indonesian SMEs. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected through surveys and in-depth interviews with SME owners across various sectors. The findings indicate that AI applications such as predictive analytics, chatbot-based customer service, and demand forecasting have contributed to increased productivity, cost efficiency, and market competitiveness. The study provides a practical framework for AI implementation tailored to the needs and capacities of Indonesian SMEs, offering insights for business practitioners, policymakers, and researchers seeking to advance digital transformation in the SME sector.

Abstract

Urban environmental issues, such as increasing air pollution and the reduction of green spaces, have become serious challenges due to the high usage of motor vehicles that produce carbon emissions. This air pollution has a detrimental impact on public health and quality of life. As an alternative, bicycles as environmentally friendly means of transportation are considered capable of reducing pollution and supporting urban greening programs. Bicycle use also has the potential to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality. This community service aims to analyze the benefits of bicycle usage in mitigating the negative impacts of conventional transportation on the environment and to identify the obstacles in its implementation. The methods used include surveys of urban communities regarding their transportation patterns, observations of supporting infrastructure for bicycles, and analysis of existing sustainable transportation policies in the city. The results of the community service show that increasing bicycle usage can lower carbon emissions, reduce congestion, and improve air quality. Additionally, reducing land usage for roads and motor vehicle parking opens opportunities for expanding green spaces in the city, which in turn can improve the quality of life for the community. However, there are obstacles such as the lack of safe bicycle lanes, insufficient supporting facilities, and low public awareness of the benefits of cycling. Therefore, more comprehensive policies, development of cyclist-friendly infrastructure, and educational campaigns are needed to increase community participation.
