Abstract

Sebanyak 20 individu (10 jantan dan 10 betina) dikoleksi dari Tanjung Jabung Barat, Jambi, dan dilakukan analisis karakter morfometri berdasarkan parameter umum dari Decapoda. Dari hasil pengukuran diperoleh rerata panjang total (TL) dari jantan dan betina adalah 225.09 ± 27.04 mm dan 210.58 ± 47.46 mm. Rerata dari berat total (TW) jantan 160.1 ± 39.41 g dan 153.1 ± 58.82 g untuk yang betina. Tinggi dari propodus (PH) cheliped jantan rerata 21.35 ± 7.70 mm (kanan), 21.9 ± 6.07 mm (kiri), dan untuk panjang  major propodus  (PLa) 66.06 ± 14.18 mm (kanan), 68.63 ± 12.42 mm (kiri), untuk panjang minor propodus (PLb) adalah 48.00 ± 11.13 mm (kanan) and 49.61 ± 9.93 mm (kiri). Pada betina, rerata dari PH adalah 23.92 ± 8.35 mm (kanan), 18.72 ± 4.00 mm (kiri) dan untuk PLa adalah 66.14 ± 19.42 mm (kanan), 64.06 ± 17.42 mm (kiri), sedangkan pada PLb adalah 49.41 ± 16.52 mm (kanan), 44.79 ± 12.64 mm (kiri). Dari hasil tersebut menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara morfometri jantan dan betina. Selain itu pada penelitian ini ditemukan bahwa pada jantan terdapat monomorfik dan dimorfik pada cheliped-nya, sedangkan pada betina hanya ditemukan dimorfik. Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk menghasilkan panduan praktikum berbasis inkuiri yang layak dari segi materi dan media. Berdasarkan angket studi pendahuluan yang diisi oleh mahasiswa yang telah mengontrak mata kuliah perkembangan hewan, ditemukan berbagai permasalahan pada praktikum metamorfosis. Permasalahan tersebut diantaranya mahasiswa masih mengalami kesulitan mendapatkan hasil yang sesuai dengan teori, masih membutuhkan panduan praktikum yang lebih detail, penggunaan alat dan bahan yang lebih spesifik, dan penambahan prosedur kerja panduan praktikum yang lebih rinci. Oleh karena itu, perlu dikembangkanlah panduan praktikum perkembangan hewan pada materi metamorfosis. Penelitian pengembangan menggunakan model 4D (Four D). Penelitian juga mengulas tahap pengembangan pada tahap 4D (Four D). Analisis data yang dilakukan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian diperoleh rata-rata validasi materi tahap 1 sebesar 51,18% (kategori cukup baik), validasi tahap 2 sebesar 73,38%, dan validasi tahap 3 sebesar 91,06%. Sedangkan validasi media tahap 1 diperoleh sebesar 37,68% (kategori cukup baik), validasi tahap 2 sebesar 61,44% (kategori baik), dan validasi tahap 3 sebesar 90,17% (kategori sangat baik). Proses validasi materi dan media dilakukan bertahap dan mengalami perbaikan panduan praktikum metamorfosis dan disimpulkan layak untuk digunakan.

Abstract

General ecology is a science that is the basis for environmental science. Good ecological understanding will encourage practices of natural resource management that are environmentally friendly. To achieve these objectives students should be equipped with adequate ecological knowledge. In addition to the learning process in the classroom that is conducive, providing learning support elements, including textbooks, will also ease students in understanding the ecology. This study aimed to evaluate the availability of reference books and textbooks and to identify learning materials characteristics that can assist and facilitate students in learning ecology. The results showed the need for a text book which is in accordance with local conditions and keep updated with the latest developments in the field of ecology.  The book will be the main resource in learning the general ecology.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to measure biodiversity of freshwater prawns in Danau Teluk Jambi City. This is a quantitative descriptive research, the samples were taken purposively from three stations. The collected data were analyzed to obtain biodiversity index and dominance index.  Some nvironmental parameters were also measure including temperature, water depth, pH, DO (Dissolved Oxygen), COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand), and BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand). The research found 170 individual freshwater prawns belonging to 3 species: Macrobrachium rosenbergi, Macrobrachium lanchesteri, and Macrobrachium sintangense. Biodiversity index (H’) in stations I, II, and III were 0.85, 1.0, and 0.74 respectively and dominance index were 0.51, 0.39, and 0.51 respecytively. The value of physical and chemical water factors of the the three station were: water depth 0.6-2.6 m, temperature 28-31°C, pH 6.49-6.72, BOD 16-20 mg/l, COD 36-43 mg/l, and DO 6.61-6.63mg/l. The result indicated that biodiversity of freshwater prawns in Danau Teluk Jambi City was relatively low  and there was species that dominated the water (Macrobrachium lanchesteri).

Abstract

The objective of this research is to determine the gastropod species diversity aroundParit 7 fish auction, Tungkal 1 Village, West Tanjung Jabung. The research found 208 individuals of15 gastropods species: Cerithidea obtusa, Cerithidea alata, Cerithidea cingulata, Telescopiumtelescopium, Telescopium mauritsi, Littoraria melanostoma, Littoraria conica, Littoraria scabra,Nerita balteata, Neritina violacea, Neritina cornucopia, Stramonita gradata, Chicoreus capucinus,Cassidula aurisfelis, and Ellobium aurisjudae. The research concluded that the gastropod speciesdiversity around Parit 7 fish auction Tungkal 1 Village West Tanjung Jabung classified as mediumdue to H' index ranged from 1.79 to 2.28 and there is no dominant species.

Abstract

Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan isolat bakteri yang mampu mengurai limbah tandan kosong kelapa sawit secara bertahap. Skrining tahap pertama pada Nutrient Broth dan Tandan Kosong Kelapa sawit yang dishaker 150 rpm selama 3 hari,dan diperoleh 18 isolat bakteri. Sedangkan pada skrining  tahap kedua  menggunakan Nutrient Broth ditambah Tandan Kosong Kelapa Sawit dan diperkaya dengan sisa medium tahap 1 (Nutrient Broth ditambah Tandan Kosong Kelapa Sawit yang telah didegradasi oleh 18 isolat)  dishaker  selama 3 hari dengan kecepatan 150 rpm, didapatkan 6 buah isolat bakteri. Menurut buku Bergey Manual of Determinative Bacteriology Isolat 1, isolat 2, isolat 3, isolat 5 dan isolat 6 termasuk kelompok ke 7 yaitu bakteri gram negatif aerobik bentuk kokus dan batang. Sedangkan isolat 4 termasuk ke dalam  kelompok ke 14 yaitu bakteri gram positif berbentuk kokus.   Kata Kunci : Isolasi, Limbah, Tandan Kosong Sawit

Abstract

Soil bacteria has important role in the life cycle of an ecosystem. Their life activities affect the characteristics of the biologic, physical, and chemical environment. Biology study program of education faculty in Jambi University has a plot of land made into a botanical garden. Thus, this botanical garden needs some information about the fertility of the land used, and one of them is to know the type of bacteria in its soil as a biological factor. The purpose of this research is to determine the genus of bacteria found in soil of Biology Botanical Garden at Education Faculty (FKIP) of Jambi University, Mendalo. This research was conducted from April to July of 2015, in both biology botanical garden and biology laboratory at Education Faculty of Jambi University. The kind of this research is explorative descriptive. Soil sample was collected by using 4 squared plots measuring 12 m x 12 m. In each plot made 5 subplots and soil samples was taken from 3 points of each subplot by random sampling. The identification was done by observing colony morphology, gram staining, and biochemical tests. The result of this research was gained gained 9 genus of bacteria, they were Paracoccus, Nitrosococcus, Bacillus, Cellulomonas, Acinetobacter, Micrococcus, Pseudomonas, Azotobacter, and Zymomonas. It is suggested to further researchers to study about other microorganisms in the soil Biology Botanical Garden that have role in maintaining and improving soil fertility there.

Abstract

Bukit Duabelas National Park (TNBD) has become habitat for many kinds of flora and fauna as well as the area Orang Rimba’s odyssey. Orang Rimba have interacted with the environment for many years so that produce traditional knowledge about the use of animals that are consumed. The assessment of orang Rimba’s Local wisdom is very important to document their traditional knowledge which eroded by modernization and as an effort to preserve the animals consumed. This study aimed at investigating the species or animals for consumptions, describing orang rimba’s knowledge about wildlife utilization that can be consumd, hunting and how to treat animals that consumed. The study was conducted in a Orang Rimba community in TNBD Sarolangun that is used Snowball sampling to select the respondent. The data has been obtained by descriptive analysis. Techniques of data collection through in-depth interview, observation participative, documentation, and literature. These results indicate the Orang Rimba utilized 65 species of wild animals for consumptions, it consists; 13 species of mammals, 13 species of reptiles, 1 spesies of amphibian, 11 species of brids, 21 species of pisces, and 6 species of invertebrates. Orang Rimba have knowledge in utilizing animal consumption derived from ancestors and experience. This community utilizing animal protein needs through hunting activities. They combine hunting techniques with the equipment used to obtain hunted. The ravin processed in a simple way as boiled, baked, and disalay (smoked). moreover, This study suggested further necessary documentation regarding the use of animals that are consumed by the Orang Rimba in a different location and identification of animal species consumed. Abstract

Abstrak Serangga adalah kelompok hewan yang memiliki keragaman lebih tinggi daripada yang lain. Serangga memiliki manfaat dalam ekosistem dan juga dapat membantu aktivitas manusia. Cerambycid adalah sejenis serangga yang dapat mengubah komponen organik pada kayu dan batang mati. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui keragaman Cerambycid di hutan pendidikan Universitas Jambi. Penelitian ini diadakan pada bulan Agustus sampai November 2016. Sampel dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan perangkap Arthocarpus di 3 tempat yang berbeda. Jumlah keramik yang telah dikumpulkan adalah 561 individu dan termasuk 14 spesies. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan tingkat keragaman 0,631. Nilai indeks keanekaragaman dapat menunjukkan kondisi hutan pendidikan Universitas Jambi yang baik sebagai habitat kumbang Cerambycid. Kata Kunci: kumbang, Cerambycid, keragaman, kumbang sungut panjang Abstract Insects are group of animals that have higher diversity than anothers. Insects have benefits in ecosystem and also can help human activities. Cerambycid is a kind of insects that can transform organic matters on wood and dead stem. The aim of this study is to know the diversity of Cerambcyid in Jambi University educational forest. It is held on August untill November 2016. Samples was collected by using Arthocarpus trap in 3 different spot. The number of Cerambycid that had collected are 561 individuals and belong to 14 species. The result of data analysis showed that Cerambcyid diversity rate is classified into medium rate with diversity value reaches 0,631. Diversity index value can show Jambi University educational forest condition which is good as the Cerambcyid beetle. Keyword: Beetle, Cerambycid, Diversity, Long Horn Beetle

Abstract

The practicum guide used in animal development practicum is still simple and does not direct students to do practicum independently. This study aims to obtain the results of the development and feasibility of an animal development practicum guide based on project-based learning in regeneration material. This research is Research and development with a 4D development model with the stages of define, design, develop and disseminate. Data collection uses a material validation questionnaire, media and student responses. The test subjects were Biology Education students at the University of Jambi who were taking the Animal Development Practicum Course. The results of material validation obtained a score of 84.35% with very good criteria, the results of media validation obtained a score of 88% with very good criteria. It is stated that this practicum guide is feasible to be tested by students in the Animal Development Practicum Course.
