Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of phase change material (PCM) KCl/H2Oas a fish cooling system. KCl/H2Ois a eutectic PCM of hydrate salts with a melting temperature of -10.7 °Cand an enthalpy of 273 kJ/kg. The samples tested were Kuwe marine fish with a mass of 1 kg (4 heads). The variation in fish mass to KCl/H2Ois 1:0.5, 1:1, 1:2, and 1:3. The process of changing the temperature of the fish cooling system every time is measured using the DS18B20 temperature sensor. Based on the study's results, KCl/H2Ois effective in reducing fish temperature by -0.22 °C/minute.The use of 2 kg KCl/H2O is effective in maintaining fish temperature in the temperature range of0 to 5 °C for 20 hours, and the use of 3 kg KCl/H2Ois good in maintaining fish temperature in the lower temperature range of -5 to 0 °C for 16 hours. In terms of economy, the cost of handling the fish cooling process using KCl/H2Ois six times greater than conventional cooling, so this system is less recommended.

Abstract

Waktu sonikasi tidak mempengaruhi bentuk struktur kristal nanokomposit Fe3O4@GO, namun mempengaruhi sifat kemagnetannya. Semakin lama waktu sonikasi maka semakin besar nilai magnet saturasi dan nilai koersitivitas nanokomposit Fe3O4@GO. Berdasarkan nilai saturasinya, Fe3O4@GO dapat dikembangkan dalam aplikasi biomedis seperti diagnostik dan fototermal.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the impact of different GDF9 genotypes on feed intake, nutrient digestibility, and nitrogen balance in Kacang goats by examining various metabolic processes. Twenty-nine Kacang goats were genotyped using PCR-RFLP DNA at position g.3855A/C of the GDF9 gene in exon 2. A 2 × 2 factorial design with two factors, namely, diet type (diets 1 and 2) and genotype (homozygote AA and heterozygote AC), was adopted. Diet 1 group comprised 11 goats with the AA genotype and 4 goats with the AC genotype, and the diet 2 group consisted of 9 goats with the AA genotype and 5 goats with the AC genotype. Both diets had the same protein content (iso-protein) and consisted of free-choice Napier grass (Pennisetum purpureum). Diet 1 had an additional 400 g of concentrate containing 11.25% crude protein (CP) and 55.86% total digestible nutrients (TDN). Diet 2 was a total mixed ration (TMR) containing 12.46% crude protein and 67.92% TDN. Results demonstrated a significant interaction (p<0.05) effect between diet and genotype on crude protein (CP) digestibility, neutral detergent fiber (NDF) digestibility, fecal nitrogen (N feces), urinary nitrogen (N urine), nitrogen retention (%), and blood urea nitrogen (BUN). However, no significant interaction effect was observed on the consumption of dry matter (DM), CP, crude fiber (CF), nitrogen free extract (NFE), and NDF and the digestibility of DM, CF, and NFE. TMR resulted in a 9% higher consumption of NDF, higher nutrient digestibility, improved nitrogen balance, average daily gain (ADG), and elevated glucose levels compared with diet 1. Kacang goats with the AC genotype exhibited better CP digestibility and increased nitrogen intake than those with the AA genotype. In conclusion, the GDF9 genotype influences the nutrient digestibility in Kacang goats, and those with the AC genotype utilize feed nutrients more efficiently than those with the AA genotype. The AC genotype resulting from the GDF9 gene mutation at position g.3855A>C can be used for genomic marker selection of high-quality Kacang goats in nutrient digestibility.

Abstract

This study aims to synthesize Fe₃O₄@CQD nanocomposites using a hydrothermal method with time variations to study their effects on the structural and optical properties of the material. Fe₃O₄ nanoparticles were obtained through a coprecipitation method, while CQDs were synthesized from the extract of sappan wood (Caesalpinia sappan L.) which is natural, environmentally friendly, and has the potential as a fluorescent material. The results of XRD characterization showed that Fe₃O₄ has a crystal size of 22.476 nm, while the addition of CQDs increased the crystal size of the nanocomposite. FTIR analysis confirmed the presence of typical functional groups such as Fe–O, O–H, C–H, and C=O indicating the presence of CQDs in Fe₃O₄. UV-Vis test shows that Fe₃O₄@CQD has an absorption peak in the wavelength range of 300-700 nm, while the fluorescence test shows that the emission intensity increaseswith increasing hydrothermal time, with the emission peak at a wavelength of 600–650 nm.

Abstract

Fe3O4@PEG:ZnO nanocomposites were synthesized by the coprecipitation method with various of the samples were Fe3O4, Fe3O4@ZnO (1:1), Fe3O4@PEG: ZnO (1:2), and Fe3O4@ PEG: ZnO (1:3). The samples were synthesized with variation in the concentration of ZnO to Fe3O4. The concentration ratio of (Fe3O4:ZnO) were (1:1), (1:2), and (1:3). In addition, polyethylene glycol (PEG) is also used to prevent the agglomeration of Fe3O4. Sample characterization was carried out using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), Particle Size Analyzer (PSA), and vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM). The XRD patterns show that the sample is composed of Fe3O4phase and ZnO phase with crystal structure cubic and wurtzite respectively. The TEM image shows the formation of a core-shell structure where PEG: ZnO is the shell and Fe3O4 is the core. From the FTIR results, there are C-O and C-C bonds which indicate the formation of PEG, Fe-O bonds indicate the formation of Fe3O4 and Zn-O bonds indicate the formation of ZnO. Characterization with PSA obtained particle sizes of 33 nm, 23 nm, and 16 nm with particle size distributions of 25%, 50%, and 75% so that the average particle size is 24 nm. The VSM results show that Fe3O4@PEG: ZnO (1:2) nanocomposite has a high magnetic saturation of 66.58 emu/g, with superparamagnetic properties, which has the potential to be developed as a bioimaging material.

Abstract

Advances in nanotechnology are driving the development of multifunctional materials, one of which is magnetic-luminescent nanocomposites that combine magnetic and fluorescent properties in a single system. These materials hold great potential for biomedical applications, particularly in bioimaging. Fe₃O₄ nanoparticles are widely used as magnetic materials due to their biocompatibility and low toxicity, while Carbon Quantum Dots (CQDs) are used as luminescent materials because they exhibit strong fluorescence, high photostability, and are non-toxic. However, Fe3O4/CQD nanocomposites suffer from particle agglomeration and quenching effects. To address these issues, encapsulation was performed using Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework-8 (ZIF-8), which possesses biocompatible, biodegradable properties, and high surface area and porosity. In this study, Fe₃O₄/CQD@ZIF-8 nanocomposites were synthesized. Coating with ZIF-8 is expected to act as a protective layer that has the potential to reduce agglomeration and minimize the quenching effect. The crystalline structure and functional groups of the material were characterized using X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), while its optical properties were analyzed using fluorescence spectroscopy.

Abstract

The use of biochar for remediating heavy metal-polluted soils is still partial. Various methods of controlling soil pollution are currently being implemented by combining several methods. One of which is coating the biochar with humic acid to increase the effectiveness of nutrient uptake by plants. This study aimed to elucidate the effect of humic acid-coated biochar (HCB) on reducing Pb and Cu in the soil to improve plant growth. Treatments tested were combinations of two factors. The first factor was the dose of HCB, namely D0 = control (without HCB), D1 = 15 t HCB     ha-1, D2 = 30 t HCB ha-1, and D3 = 45 t HCB ha-1. The second factor was the type of plants, namely spinach (P1), water spinach (P2) and mustard green (P3). Twelve treatments were arranged in a randomised block design with three replications. The parameters observed were plant height, plant leaf area, plant stem diameter, and plant fresh weight. The results showed that the best plant growth was achieved at a dose of 30 t HCB ha-1. The mustard green had the highest Pb uptake (0.025 g pot-1), and the lowest Pb uptake (0.014 g pot-1) was observed for water spinach. The highest Cu uptake (0.443 g pot-1) was observed in water spinach, followed by spinach (0.282 g pot-1) and mustard green (0.143 g pot-1). In general, the amount of Pb reduced by plants ranged from 40.04 to 87.28%, and the amount of Cu by plants ranged from 8.63 to 40.23%.
