Abstract

This study investigates the potential of KOH-activated dragon fruit peels as an adsorbent for the removal of Cd2+ ions from solution. The adsorption performance of the activated dragon fruit peels was evaluated through batch adsorption experiments, where various parameters including adsorbent dosage, initial Cd2+ concentration, contact time, and solution pH were examined. The optimum condition for the adsorption process was pH 5, stirring time 120 min, adsorbent dosage of 20 mg (in 25 mL solution).  The findings highlight the potential of utilizing agricultural waste materials, such as dragon fruit peel, as an effective and sustainable adsorbent for the removal of heavy metal ions from water sources, contributing to environmental remediation efforts.

Abstract

The existence of clean water on this earth is very necessary to support the lives of humans and other living creatures. Sustainable management of clean water sources is necessary to ensure that the quality meets certain requirements or quality standards, which often becomes a problem, especially regarding measurement methods that require a long time and are quite expensive. This condition demands innovation in water quality measurement methods that are fast, accurate and cheap. The aim of this research is to examine the accuracy of an Android-based water quality measuring tool using a smartphone, especially the parameters of temperature, turbidity, Total Dissolved Solid (TDS), pH and conductivity simultaneously. The method used in this research is that prepared water samples are measured using an Android-based multi-parameter measuring tool developed in this research. The results of repeated testing at least ten times for each parameter are compared with the measurement results of calibrated measuring instruments available on the market, then statistical tests are carried out to see the performance of the measuring instruments that have been developed. The results of this research show that for all test parameters using this measuring instrument the values are very close to the measurement results using the manufacturer's measuring instruments that are commonly used. It is hoped that the results of this innovation will be an alternative choice for measuring several water quality parameters accurately, quickly, easily and cheaply based on Android and be able to overcome environmental problems in the future.

Abstract

Borobudur Temple is a cultural heritage consisting of various symbols. The Borobudur symbols contain spiritual values and moral education. Tribuana Manggala Bakti is one of a series of Vesak celebration activities in Jatimulyo Village, Kulon Progo. This activity is a Buddhist religious activity with a combination of Javanese culture. This research aims to describe the symbolic values of Borobudur in the Tribuana Manggala Bakti tradition. This research used a holistic descriptive method. The research results stated that Tribuana Manggala Bakti is a religious cultural product containing social, cultural, and spiritual values. Tribuana Manggala Bakti consists of elements of celebration, amisa puja procession, puja bakti, animal release, tree planting, and performing arts. Each of these elements is in harmony with the symbolic values of Borobudur depicted on the reliefs. Jatimulyo Buddhists strive to integrate Buddhist teachings and Javanese culture. Tribuana Manggala Bakti's cultural construction functions as a revitalization of Borobudur values, a means of strengthening Buddhist identity and strengthening interfaith unity. Tribuana Manggala Bakti is an event that transforms religious, artistic and cultural values.

Abstract

This community engagement project aims to describe the empowerment of persons with disabilities through the downstreaming of MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise) products in Wonogiri Regency. The primary issues identified include the low level of participation of persons with disabilities in productive economic activities and the suboptimal implementation of inclusive MSME downstreaming. The project employed the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach. The findings indicate that persons with disabilities possess significant potential to engage in various downstreaming stages, such as packaging, product finishing, basic design, and digital marketing. Nevertheless, structural, cultural, and technical barriers continue to impede their full integration. This project proposes an inclusive empowerment model based on MSME downstreaming that integrates competency-based training, continuous mentoring, adaptive facilities, and collaboration among MSMEs, local government, and disability communities. These findings are expected to serve as policy recommendations for strengthening inclusive economic development in Wonogiri Regency.

Abstract

Cadmium (Cd) is a heavy metal that can harm ecosystems and human health even at low concentrations. Elevated Cd levels may contaminate the food chain and cause health disorders, including kidney damage. Adsorption is considered a promising removal method due to its simplicity, efficiency, and low cost. This study investigates the potential of pineapple crown as a natural adsorbent for cadmium removal from water. A batch adsorption system was applied using non-activated pineapple crown with variations in pH, cadmium concentration, and contact time to determine optimal conditions. Humic acid was also added at different concentrations to evaluate its effect on adsorption performance. The adsorbent was characterized using FTIR and SEM, while cadmium levels were analyzed using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS). The findings indicate that optimal adsorption occurred at pH 7, 10 ppm Cd concentration, and 120 minutes contact time. The adsorption process followed the Langmuir isotherm and second-order kinetic model. The addition of humic acid showed an optimum response at 5%, but its influence was not significant. The maximum removal efficiency reached 88.77%, demonstrating that pineapple crown is an effective and sustainable adsorbent for Cd removal.

Abstract

Waste management has become a serious problem across all urban areas in Indonesia, where the main issue is the lack of treatment at the source. One of the best solutions to process waste is at the source, for example, through composting. This study aims to design a compost reactor and analyze the nitrogen (N), phosphate (P), potassium (K), and C/N ratio of the composting products. In this study, the material used was household organic waste from the Griya Taman Asri Housing Residence Block F, which had been sorted into three categories: organic, inorganic, and non-3R. The composting process was carried out aerobically with the addition of EM4 starter, using a plastic drum reactor with holes on each side. Inside the drum, a pipe with holes was installed, while a filter and tap were placed at the bottom. During fermentation, temperature and pH were measured every 3 days. After calculating the amount of waste generated, a reactor with a capacity of 60 liters was produced. The N content was 1.821%, P was 1.131%, K was 3.516%, and the C/N ratio was 19.97, with a compost maturation period of 22 days. Based on the N, P, and K content of the compost product, compared with the N, P, and K content standards of the SNI compost quality standard and market compost quality standards, the compost produced in this study is considered of good quality.

Abstract

The Rajaban tradition is a cultural practice of the Javanese people which is carried out in the month of Rajab as a form of respect and prayer for ancestors, which functions as well as a religio-cultural rite and a medium of social cohesion. This study aims to analyze the Rajaban tradition from the perspective of Buddhist teachings, especially through the concept of pattidana (bestowal of services). The research uses a qualitative approach of a case study in Widarapayung Kulon Village, Binangun District, Cilacap Regency, with observation, interview, and documentation techniques. The analysis was carried out in a descriptive-interpretive manner. The results of the study show the alignment of values between the practice of Rajaban and the teachings of Dhamma Buddha in the aspects of devotion to ancestors, the development of virtues, and the strengthening of social solidarity, so that the local tradition can be understood as an expression of pattidana if interpreted according to the principles of the Dhamma.
