Abstract

Low birth weight (LBW) contributes about 60-80% of neonatal mortality. Factors such as gestational age and maternal nutritional status are among of the causes of LBW. Reducing infant mortality rate (IMR) is an essential indicator of a country’s success in improving public health. The aim of this study was to investigate the occurrence of LBW based on gestational age and maternal nutritional status at PKU Muhammadiyah Tegal hospital. This study was analytical and retrospective approach. The study population includes all mothers who gave birth at PKU Muhammadiyah Tegal hospital in July 2023 on 41 respondents. Data collection involves secondary data and statistically analyzed using chi square test. Result of the study found that from the respondents, 21 (51.2%) experienced preterm births (<37 weeks), while 22 (53.7%) were diagnosed with Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) with Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) < 23.5 cm. LBW occurred in 28 cases (68.3%). Chi-square analysis revealed a significant correlation between gestational age and LBW at Muhammadiyah Tegal PKU Hospital (p-value=0.010, OR: 7.773). Similarly, LBW occurrence based on maternal nutritional status also exhibited a significant relationship (p-value=0.004, OR: 15.000), indicating that pregnant women with CED have a 15 times higher risk of experiencing LBW compared to non-CED pregnant women

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Long-term contraceptive methods are contraceptives that can be used for more than two years. Factors that can influence the selection of MOW contraception include health workers. Health workers, in addition to providing physical services, are authorised to carry out Communication, Education and Information (IEC) to prospective birth control users. Purpose: To analyse the relationship between the role of health workers on the interest in using MOW contraception. Method: This research method uses an analytic correlation approach. The population of this study consisted of all patients who used contraception at Sebening Kasih Tayu Pati Hospital, totalling 246 patients. The sample needed in this study was 61 respondents. The instruments used were a questionnaire of the role of health workers and a questionnaire of interest in using MOW contraception. Statistical analysis using chisquare was analysed using statistical techniques, namely the C correlation test with a confidence level of 95% (α = 0.05). Results: Respondents who rated the role of health workers as poor were mostly not interested in using MOW, namely 23 respondents (37.7%), while only 5 respondents (8.2%) were interested. In contrast, respondents who rated the role of health workers as good were mostly interested in using MOW, namely 27 respondents (44.3%), and only 6 respondents (9.8%) were not interested. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between the role of health workers and interest in using MOW contraception. Suggestion: Midwives are advised to always invite fertile couples to be able to accept and take the time when given health education and can make the right decision to use effective family planning as needed.

Abstract

Background: The postpartum period is a very important period of physical and psychological adaptation for mothers after giving birth. One psychological disorder is postpartum blues or baby blues. One important intervention in reducing the risk of postpartum blues is support and assistance from the husband. Purpose: To determine the correlation of husband assistance on the risk of postpartum blues in postpartum mothers. Method: This study is a quantitative study using a correlational analytical model. The population in this study consisted of all mothers who gave birth at the Fita Ari Murtini Bae Kudus Midwife Practice (PMB) between September and November 2025, totalling 90 mothers. The sample size was calculated using the Slovin formula, resulting in a sample size of 74 mothers. The test used in this study was the chi-square test. Results: Respondents who were accompanied by their husbands in the good category numbered 48 (64.9%) respondents, respondents who were not depressed numbered 51 (68.9%) compared to those who experienced postpartum depression, namely 23 (31.1%). Conclusion: There is a relationship between spousal support and the occurrence of postpartum depression blues with a p-value of 0.002. The odds ratio (OR) value of 5.056 means that respondents who received spousal support were five times less likely to be depressed than those who received less spousal support. Suggestion: Other researchers investigate other factors that influence the occurrence of postpartum blues, such as family support other than the husband, socioeconomic factors, and the mother's psychological condition before giving birth.
