Abstract

Learning media is an important element in supporting the teaching and learning process. This media not only functions as a tool, but also plays a role in stimulating students' thoughts, feelings, attention and skills, so as to motivate them to learn more effectively. However, challenges in the form of teachers' lack of understanding regarding the creation of digital-based learning media often become obstacles. To overcome this problem, Educational Technology students at Muhammadiyah University of Makassar carried out training in creating learning media using the Canva application. The target of this activity is teachers from Muhammadiyah Takkalasi Middle School and Elementary School. This training aims to improve teachers' abilities in designing interesting, interactive and relevant teaching materials, so as to create a more conducive learning atmosphere and increase student motivation. Implementation methods include needs analysis, material preparation, direct training, and evaluation through discussion and distribution of questionnaires. The training stages include introducing Canva features, assistance in creating teaching materials, and evaluation sessions to overcome various obstacles experienced by participants. The results of this activity show that the teacher has succeeded in mastering the basic skills in using Canva to create more creative and innovative learning media.

Abstract

Digital citizenship has evolved from a simple concept of technology access to a comprehensive framework encompassing ethical, social, and environmental dimensions of digital participation. This systematic review examines contemporary digital citizenship frameworks and their implementation challenges globally and within the Indonesian context. To systematically analyze the evolution of digital citizenship concepts, identify key elements in contemporary frameworks, and assess implementation challenges across different contexts, with particular attention to the Indonesian landscape. A systematic review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines. Literature from 2008-2024 was searched across multiple databases including academic journals, policy documents, and institutional reports. The search focused on digital citizenship frameworks, implementation strategies, and cultural adaptations. The review identified twelve core elements of contemporary digital citizenship: digital access, digital communication, digital literacy, digital ethics, digital security, digital law, digital rights and responsibilities, digital health and wellness, digital commerce, digital sustainability, digital belief, and digital education. Key challenges include the digital divide, insufficient digital literacy, cultural adaptation needs, and regulatory gaps. The Indonesian context presents unique opportunities through local wisdom integration (gotong royong, musyawarah mufakat) while facing infrastructure and literacy challenges. Digital citizenship requires a holistic, culturally-sensitive approach that balances universal principles with local values. Future research should focus on measurement frameworks, long-term impact assessment, and culturally adaptive implementation strategies.

Abstract

This study delves into the obstacles encountered by English teachers while utilizing YouTube Live Streaming as a platform for teaching. Focusing on educators from the SMP Unismuh Makassar YouTube channel engaged in live English instruction, the research aims to contribute to the understanding of YouTube Live Streaming as a teaching medium for English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners. The study employs a qualitative approach, using purposive sampling to select two teachers as subjects. Data collection involves observing the difficulties faced by teachers during the live teaching and learning process. The study identifies four main categories of difficulties faced by teachers: communication barriers, time delays, lack of control, and self-confidence issues. The findings suggest that while YouTube can serve as a valuable source of teaching material, its limitations in fostering real-time interaction with students hinder its effectiveness as a primary teaching platform. The researcher concludes that platforms offering virtual face-to-face engagement may be more suitable for online teaching, reserving YouTube primarily as a supplementary learning resource rather than a live teaching tool. Particularly in contexts where face-to-face learning is feasible, leveraging alternative platforms for interactive engagement is recommended.

Abstract

This study investigates the difficulties encountered by English Education Program graduate students at State University of Makassar when delivering academic oral presentations. The research explores these difficulties from two perspectives: the students' self-reported experiences and how these difficulties are reflected in the written aspects of the presentations. The goal of the research is twofold: to identify the difficulties that hinder students' successful presentations and to develop solutions to improve their oral presentation skills. By understanding the challenges faced by students, educators can develop more effective teaching strategies to address these difficulties. The findings of this research are expected to benefit both English educators and students. Educators will gain insights into the specific challenges faced by their students during academic oral presentations. This knowledge will allow them to tailor their instruction to better prepare students for these presentations. Students will benefit from the development of improved teaching strategies that target their specific areas of difficulty. The research design employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. Data will be collected through student surveys, interviews, and analysis of written presentation materials. The surveys will gather data on the students' self-reported difficulties during oral presentations. The interviews will provide a deeper understanding of the students' experiences and perspectives. Finally, analysis of the written presentation materials will allow researchers to examine how these difficulties manifest in the written aspects of the presentations. This study contributes to the existing body of research on the challenges faced by EFL learners in academic settings. By focusing specifically on the difficulties encountered during oral presentations, the research provides valuable insights for educators who are seeking to improve the oral communication skills of their students. The findings of this research can be applied to English language programs at universities around the world, ultimately improving the quality of academic oral presentations delivered by EFL students.
