Abstract

East Java Province, one of the carrot centers, experiences fluctuations in carrot production, which is thought to be due to inefficient production factors and land degradation due to low conservation use. The study investigates the level of conservation activities adopted by carrot farmers in East Java Province, focusing on technical efficiency and the impact of socio-economic factors on this efficiency. This study was conducted purposively in Sumberbrantas Village, Batu City, and Wonokerso Village, Probolinggo Regency, using a simple random sampling method with data collection through interviews. The analysis method used was the Likert scale scoring method for the level of conservation adoption by farmers, stochastic frontier analysis using the Cobb-Douglas function with maximum likelihood estimate (MLE), and tobit regression analysis to determine the effect of conservation on technical efficiency. Results show that conservation adoption is mostly low, with factors like land, chemical fertilizers, organic fertilizers, pesticides, and labor positively affecting production. The average level of technical efficiency is 0.4970, with location and education having a significant positive effect. Conservation variables do not have a significant effect.

Abstract

The consumption of animal-sourced protein food in Indonesia is projected to continue increasing. However, current issues include low average consumption levels, a significant share of expenditure, and relatively high prices of some animal-sourced protein foods. This study analyzed the demand function for animal protein food consumption to identify the factors influencing household consumption and examined own-price elasticity, cross-price elasticity, and income elasticity. The analysis used SUSENAS consumption data, including household members, income, and food expenditure, and employed the QUAIDS model. The results showed that all variables were significant at the 1 percent level, implying that animal protein food commodities were influenced by household income, own-price, prices of other commodities, and socio-demographic factors (household size, age of household head, education level of household head, and region) in East Java and East Nusa Tenggara. The animal food commodity most sensitive to income changes in East Java was milk (1.409%), followed by meat (1.252%), and fish (1.214%) as luxury goods, and eggs (0.433%) as normal goods. The Marshallian (uncompensated) and Hicksian (compensated) own-price elasticities for all commodities in East Java and NTT were negative, indicating that the demand for animal protein food adhered to the law of demand. The Hicksian (compensated) cross-price elasticity values for other commodities in East Java and NTT were positive, suggesting that these commodities are substitutes for one another.

Abstract

Potato farming is critical in the local community of the mountainous terrain in Probolinggo Regency, East Java province. Despite the region's vulnerability to landslides and volcanic activity, its fertile land provides an optimal environment for agriculture, significantly contributing to potato production in Indonesia. However, farmers continue encountering challenges such as limited resources, market instability, and highland farming conditions. Understanding potato farmers' livelihood assets is crucial for supporting agricultural sustainability in the challenging terrain of Probolinggo Regency, East Java. This study used descriptive analysis, scoring, a Livelihood Index, and pentagon assets to characterize potato farmers' human, financial, physical, natural, and social assets. Results demonstrate the relative strength of financial assets, followed by natural, physical, human, and social assets, suggesting that farmers possess a moderate level of livelihood security.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Farmers play an essential role in producing food and meeting the community's food needs. However, they often face various obstacles and challenges in efforts to increase crop yields to boost agricultural income. One approach to increasing agricultural productivity is by understanding the Efficiency and Profitability of Rice Farming with the transplanting system (TAPIN) and the direct seeding system (TABELA) in Padang Mentoyo Village, Kapas District, Bojonegoro Regency. This study used the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method, with 74 respondents consisting of 37 TAPIN farmers and 37 TABELA farmers, to determine the level of efficiency and profitability between TAPIN and TABELA. The results showed that TABELA farmers are more efficient than TAPIN farmers because as many as 97.3% of TABELA farmers are included in the High and Full Efficient categories. This is because implementing the TABELA system is able to reduce the time needed to move seedlings, so that the planting process is faster. Keywords: Direct seeding system (TABELA), Transplanting system (TAPIN), Rice farming income, Yield.
