Abstract

This article discusses the impact of implementing Spontaneous Group Discussion (SGD) in a senior high school experimental class. Challenges during speaking practice in the classroom lead to the students having reduced motivation to speak English. SGD is suggested as a way to address this issue by evaluating its efficacy in comparison to a traditional approach. This research employs a quasi-experimental design with pretest and post-test assessments. The analysis showed the result of this research that F (2,85) = 26.591, P 0.000 < 0.05. From the result a notable difference emerged between the experimental and control groups, resulting in the dismissal of the null hypothesis which posited that both strategies (SGD technique and GTM) are identical. Research findings indicate that SGD is more efficient for learning speech, allowing students to rapidly grasp important lessons related to the teacher's chosen topic. Hence, teachers may find value in using the findings of this research when instructing students on English speaking skills.

Abstract

This research investigates whether students instructed using the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) method achieve higher reading proficiency compared to those taught with the Grammar Translation Method (GTM). The study focuses on second-year students and employs a non-randomized pretest-posttest design within a quantitative research framework. Two groups serve as the experimental subjects. Data analysis is conducted using ANCOVA. Findings indicate that students taught with the CIRC method have an estimated marginal mean score of 73.587, while those taught with GTM have a score of 69.133. This suggests that the CIRC method leads to superior reading achievement. Based on these results, it is recommended that educators adopt the CIRC method to enhance reading skills.

Abstract

This research aims to enhance students' vocabulary mastery through gamification on Baamboozle, as traditional teaching methods often fall short in holding students’ attention. The research employs a Classroom Action Research (CAR) methodology, conducted in two cycles, involving planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. It involved 29 eighth-graders at SMPN 2 Nglegok. Pre-tests and post-tests were given to track their vocabulary progress, and also observed their engagement and participation in class. Results indicated a significant improvement in vocabulary mastery, with the percentage of students achieving the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM) rising from 17.24% in the pre-test, to 48,28% in the post test of cycle 1, and  to 82.76% in the post-test II. The findings suggest that gamification, through interactive and competitive elements of the Baamboozle platform, effectively increases student motivation and engagement in learning English vocabulary. This study contributes valuable insights into the integration of technology and innovative teaching methods in language education, highlighting the importance of gamification in fostering a more dynamic and enjoyable learning environment to improve vocabularies.
