Abstract

Fever, a condition where the body temperature is above normal (> 37°C) can occur due to inflammation, an immune system response from harmful stimuli such as pathogens. Bopot leaves (Tabernaemontana divaricata) contain flavonoids, tannins, saponins and alkaloids which are thought to play a role in inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis (PGE2). This research was conducted to determine the antipyretic and anti-inflammatory activity of Bopot leaves. In vivo testing was used in mice (Mus musculus). The antipyretic test used peptone induction and rectal temperature was measured using a digital thermometer, while the anti-inflammatory test was carrageenin induced and the volume of edema was measured using a plethysmometer. Measurements were made before and after induction with an interval of 30 minutes for 2 hours. Results were analyzed by ANOVA using SPSS. The antipyretic test showed that the dose of 200 mg/Kg BW had the best antipyretic activity with an antipyretic power of 90.20% and the best anti-inflammatory activity at a dose of 250 mg/Kg BW. Bopot leaves contain flavanoid compounds which have antipyretic and anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) which triggers prostaglandins that cause an increase in body temperature and inflammation. It was concluded that Bopot leaf extract has antipyretic and anti-inflammatory activity.

Abstract

Penyakit Diabetes Melitus adalah penyakit dengan berbagai gangguan metabolisme yang berdampak pada meningkatnya glukosa darah secara kronis.  Diabetes Mellitus (DM) memiliki jenis 2 jenis yaitu DM tipe 1 dan DM tipe 2.  Berdasarkan penelitian sebelumnya pasien Diabetes Mellitus tipe 2 ditemukan tidak terkontrol dengan melihat profil glukosa karena hal ini disebabkan karena antara lain tidak termonitoring atau dievaluasi secara berkala. Dalam monitoring pengobatan pada pasien diabetes mellitus tipe 2 sangat penting untuk menilai efektivitas pengobatan.  Diabetes mellitus tipe 2 di Indonesia terkhususnya di desa maratua dengan adanya inovatif olahan kue berbasis sumber daya alam perikanan (ikan teri) masyarakat setempat.

Abstract

Chronic inflammation is common in infectious diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, and autoimmune diseases. However, using non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) is accompanied by dangerous side effects. Therefore, searching for safer alternative therapies without side effects is very important. A natural blend of ingredients produced by stingless bees from plants was potential as a remedy. Meanwhile, the potential of kelulut bee products from East Kalimantan as an anti-inflammatory is still unknown. This study aimed to compare the chemical composition of kelulut bee (Trigona apicalis) products and evaluate the anti-inflammatory effect of honey, propolis, and their combination. Propolis extract and honey were determined as secondary metabolites. An anti-inflammatory in vivo assay triggered the edema using carrageenan on male mice and measured its anti-inflammatory power value. Propolis extract and honey from T. apicalis have a promising anti-inflammatory effect and are significantly higher than the positive control. Meanwhile, combining propolis extract and honey did not enhance the anti-inflammatory effect. In addition, combining honey and propolis preparations with a ratio of 75 : 25 has a better effect on reducing edema volume than the other two combinations. Still, it is not better than the treatment with propolis extract or honey alone. The content of polyphenol compounds found in honey and propolis preparations is thought to have an important role in reducing edema volume.

Abstract

Obat tradisional merupakan bahan atau ramuan bahan berupa tumbuhan, hewani, mineral dan galenika yang digunakan secara turun temurun dalam pengobatan di masyarakat. Berdasarkan laporan Badan POM sepanjang Desember 2016 sampai dengan November 2017 menemukan sebanyak 39 produk obat tradisional mengandung bahan kimia obat dan 28 produk diantaranya tidak memiliki izin edar Badan POM atau ilegal. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah untuk memberikan pengenalan dan pemahaman akan obat tradisional yang berbahaya dan mengandung bahan kimia obat tanpa pengawasan BPOM yang diedarkan secara luas. Evaluasi dilakukan dengan menggunakan pertanyaan pretest dan posttest yang diberikan sebelum dan setelah pemberian materi, hal tersebut dilakukan untuk menilai tingkat pengetahuan dan pemahaman peserta. Hasil statistika menunjukkan nilai pretest memiliki rata-rata sebesar 24,88 dan 57,33 untuk nilai posttest, selain itu uji Wilcoxon menunjukkan nilai signifikan 0,000 (<0,05) yang artinya terdapat perubahan pengetahuan sebelum dan setelah pemaparan materi. Pemberian edukasi terkait obat tradisional oleh pemateri dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan masyarakat mengenai keamanan dan bahaya obat tradisional mengandung bahan kimia obat.

Abstract

Jamu adalah warisan budaya yang telah diteruskan secara turun-temurun, tetap eksis dalam masyarakat hingga saat ini. Masyarakat meyakini bahwa jamu memiliki manfaat besar dalam menjaga kesehatan, baik sebagai pencegah maupun pengobatan penyakit. Pada tanggal 7 Oktober 2023, di Kelurahan Mesjid, Kecamatan Samarinda Sebrang, sebuah acara berjudul ”Edukasi dan Pembuatan Jamu Saintifik sebagai Alternatif Penngobatan” digelar mulai pukul 08.00 hingga 11.00 WITA. Acara ini diikuti oleh 27 peserta dengan tujuan menyampaikan kepada masyarakat bahwa jamu bisa dibuat dirumah dengan menggunakan bahan herbal yang mudah ditemukan dipasaran. Bahan-bahan yang digunakan dalam pembuatan jamu meliputi temulawak, daun salam, kunyit, jahe, kumis kucing, kencur, sambiloto, kayyu manis, daun sembung, daun seledri, dan daun pegagan. Alat-alat yang digunakan meliputi panci besar, kompor, oven, wadah jamu, botol 100ml, label jamu, tabung gas, timbangan analitik, plastik, wadah, dan juga souvenir lainnya. Pengabdian masyarakat ini dihadiri oleh Ibu-ibu PKK, yang bertujuan untuk memberikan pemahaman tentang pembuatan jamu herbal sebagai cara untuk meningkatkan sistem kekebalan tubuh. Kegiatan ini berjalan sesuai dengan rencana, dan peserta utamanya adalah remaja dan ibu-ibu yang memahami bahwa jamu adalah produk lokal yang dapat meningkatkan daya tahan tubuh. Melalui kegiatan ini, masyarakatdapat mempelajari cara aman membuat jamu yang mendukung kesehatan dengan bahan-bahan yang mudah didapaatkan

Abstract

The development of the times creates shifts in lifestyle and eating patterns that trigger hyperuricemia. Hyperuricemia is generally treated with synthetic drugs, but on the other hand, it causes side effects. So the use of natural ingredients such as kelubut leaves can be an alternative treatment. The purpose of this study was to determine the ethyl acetate extract of kelubut leaves has activity as an anti-hyperuricemia. The research uses experimental research methods with a design in the form of a pretest and posttest design. Mice were used and divided into 5 groups, namely the positive control group, the negative control and the group given the extract with three different doses including doses of 250 mg/Kg BW, 125 mg/Kg BW, and 62.5 mg/Kg BW. Mice will be conditioned by hyperuricemia and given different treatments in each group. Data on uric acid levels were analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney. The results of the study showed that administration of the extract at a concentration of 250 mg/Kg BW reduced uric acid levels as much as the positive control group at 120 minutes, but was not statistically different (p0.05) from the positive control. This study concludes that the ethyl acetate extract of kelubut leaves has anti-hyperuricemic activity at a dose of 250 mg/Kg BW showing the best-reducing activity in reducing uric acid levels in mice.

Abstract

Kelubut (Passiflora foetida L.), as an anti-inflammatory, is widely found in various regions in Indonesia, including in Central Kalimantan. Its main chemical compounds include alkaloids, phenols, glycosides, flavonoids, and cyanogenic compounds. Flavonoids show more than a hundred kinds of bioactivity, including antipyretic, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory. This study aims to determine the anti-inflammatory activity of kelubut leaf extract (Passiflora foetda L.) against mice (Mus musculus). This research went through a Pretest and Posttest Control Group Design with 5 treatment groups, negative control, positive control, and ethyl acetate extract of kelubut leaves with 3 doses of 250 mg/KgBW, 125mg/KgBW and 62.5 mg/KgBB. Before being given treatment, each treatment group was induced by carrageenin by sub-planar injection into the sole of the left leg of the mouse. Then, the edema developed rapidly and persisted for 6 hours. After being induced by carrageenin, the researchers waited for 30 minutes and measured the volume of edema every 30 minutes to 120 minutes. The inhibition of all groups of ethyl acetate extract of kelubut leaves showed anti-inflammatory activity, but the resulting abilities were different. Inflammation inhibition by ethyl acetate extract at a dose of 250 mg/KgBW was 92.78%, at a dose of  125 mg/KgBW, was 91.76%, and at a dose of 62.5 mg/KgBW was 84.61%. From the results obtained, the ethyl acetate extract group of kelubut leaves at a dose of 250 mg/KgBW had the greatest inflammatory inhibition activity compared to a dose of 125 mg/KgBW and 62.5 mg/KgBW.

Abstract

Daun kelubut (Passiflora foetida L.) merupakan bahan alam yang dapat digunakan sebagai pengobatan herbal penyakit diabetes melitus. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui potensi ekstrak etil asetat daun kelubut sebagai antihiperglikemia. Digunakan rancangan the pre-posttest control group design dengan 5 kelompok perlakuan (P1: Na-CMC 1% (kontrol negatif), P2: glibenklamid (kontrol positif), P3: ekstrak etil asetat daun kelubut 250mg/kgBB, P4: ekstrak etil asetat daun kelubut 500mg/kgBB dan P5: ekstrak etil asetat daun kelubut 750mg/kgBB). Sebelum pengujian, mencit diinduksi aloksan dengan dosis 150mg/kgBB secara intraperitoneal. Mencit dengan kadar glukosa >200 mg/dL dapat diberikan perlakuan selama 6 jam secara oral. Pengukuran kadar glukosa dilakukan pada jam ke-0, 3, 4 dan 6. Data yang didapatkan lalu dianalisis menggunakan SPSS versi 26 dengan uji ANOVA. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kelompok uji ekstrak etil asetat dengan dosis 750mg/kgBB memiliki kemampuan dalam menurunkan kadar glukosa darah terbaik karena mendekati hasil dari kontrol positif glibenklamid sebagai pembanding. Perbedaan dosis juga mempengaruhi kadar glukosa darah, semakin tinggi dosis yang diberikan, maka efektivitasnya semakin meningkat.

Abstract

Biofilm is a common causative factor for urinary tract infections due to catheter usage with a percentage of infection around 70-80%. The Bajakah tampala (Spatholobus littoralis Hassk) is one of native plants of Kalimantan which contains phenolic compounds, flavonoids and tannins which are proven to accelerate wound healing, have antibacterial activity, and have very high and strong antioxidant activity. This study aims to determine the antibacterial and anti-biofilm activity of bajakah root extract (Spatholobus littoralis Hassk) on catheter colonies of Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Candida albicans and to determine their mechanism of action in vitro. This research is carried out with an in vitro experimental study design using a microplate reader. Extraction was carried out by maceration method using 96% ethanol solvent. The results showed that the ethanol extract of Bajakah tampala (Spatholobus littoralis Hassk) had antibacterial activity against S. aureus with a concentration of 1% w/v of 88.33% ± 0.01 and anti-biofilm activity of 82.21% ± 0.01. E. Coli bacteria had an antibacterial activity of 84.83% and an anti-biofilm activity of 80.11 at a concentration of 1% w/v. C. albicans had an antifungal activity at a concentration of 1% w/v of 82.31% ± 0.01 and anti-biofilm activity of 77.00% ± 0.01. From these results it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of Bajakah tampala (Spatholobus littoralis Hassk) has antibacterial and antifungal activities and the potential as a new anti-biofilm agent against S.aureus, E. coli and C. albicans
